Tina Malia is a singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and sound engineer whose music spans sacred chant, world, dream pop and folk. Her songs express what her own pages call her radiant inner landscape.
Her mother, a concert pianist and opera singer from South Korea, guided her classical education. Her father bought her a guitar when she turned 15 and encouraged her to follow her passions. She learned guitar by listening to women of folk music such as Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Ani DiFranco and Alison Krauss, and began writing her own songs. With guitar and backpack in hand, she travelled the world, drawing inspiration from nature and spirituality.
After her first album, Shores of Avalon, she met world chant pioneer Jai Uttal, who invited her to sing in his Pagan Love Orchestra. Through him she came to Sanskrit mantras. "To this day, I attribute my sense of well-being to chanting mantra," she says on her website. That love of chant runs through Jaya Bhagavan (2005) and Bridge to Vallabha, which includes songs in Sanskrit, Hebrew, Gurmukhi and English.
Her self-produced catalog also includes The Silent Awakening and The Lost Frontier. She has worked in studio and on stage with artists including Kenny Loggins, India.Arie, Bonnie Raitt, Deva Premal and Miten, and Peter Yarrow.

Worth Knowing
Tina Malia is a California-based singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, and sound engineer whose music bridges sacred chant, folk, world music, dream pop, and acoustic traditions in ways that feel seamless rather than fragmented. Born to a Korean concert pianist and opera singer mother and a father who handed her a guitar at fifteen, she spent her formative years absorbing the folk lineage of Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Ani DiFranco, and Alison Krauss, later traveling the world with that guitar and an open ear for spiritual traditions. Her turning point came when world chant pioneer Jai Uttal invited her to sing in his Pagan Love Orchestra, introducing her to Sanskrit mantra and an approach to vocal devotion that has defined much of her output since. With nearly 150,000 Spotify followers and a self-produced catalog spanning mantra-based albums, multilingual sacred music, and introspective singer-songwriter work, she has become known for refusing easy categorization. She has recorded with and appeared alongside Kenny Loggins, India.Arie, Bonnie Raitt, Deva Premal and Miten, and Peter Yarrow—a roster that speaks to her credibility across folk, world, and conscious music circles. What draws people to her work is precisely that combination of formal classical training, deep folk roots, and genuine spiritual practice, offered without commercial polish.
