Lisa McCrohan is a licensed psychotherapist and personal coach (MA, LCSW-C, SEP) who works from an integrative, whole-person approach. She weaves together psychology, nervous system and brain science, meditation, spirituality and somatic practice. Her mission is, in her words, "inspiring delight, compassion, and connection in our lives, workplaces, and world."
As a Somatic Experiencing practitioner, she offers body-centered therapy for stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, loss, grief, parenting and relationships. Her coaching is aimed at people seeking clarity, confidence or a career change, and it draws on mindfulness, compassion, positive psychology and meditation. She sees clients virtually and in person in Middletown, Maryland. Her areas of expertise also include mindfulness-based interventions, compassion-focused therapy, spiritual direction and authentic leadership development.
Her path began early. She describes a childhood sense of connection to "Something Bigger," then work in medical free clinics and social justice settings. In her twenties she lived and worked in Guatemala and El Salvador for over two years, at an orphanage and at a human rights NGO advising micro business owners. Later she taught mind-body well-being and authentic leadership to faculty and staff at Georgetown University. She holds master's degrees in Clinical Social Work and Pastoral Ministry from Boston College, along with training in Somatic Experiencing, trauma healing, mindfulness and meditation.
Lisa is also a writer and poet. She published Gems of Delight in 2017, and her writing has appeared in outlets including Upworthy, Motherly, the Gottman Institute and NBC News. Her guiding mantra is "Follow what delights your heart and you'll inspire the world." She describes delight as "a soft joy – a sacred hum of aliveness."
Worth Knowing
Lisa McCrohan, MA, LCSW-C, SEP, is a licensed psychotherapist, personal coach, writer and speaker based in Maryland, where she lives with her family with the mountains outside her back door. Her distinctive position is that she is a Somatic Experiencing practitioner who also writes poetry and leads meditation, so body-centered clinical work and contemplative practice share one practice rather than sitting in separate lanes. Students and listeners tend to follow her for the central idea behind her work: that delight is our true nature, which she describes as a soft joy and a sacred hum of aliveness arising through pausing, connecting and compassionate presence. Her Insight Timer teacher page places her integration of meditation, poetry and somatic movement at over 25 years. Her clinical credentials matter for people dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, loss and grief, while her poetry draws readers who find purely clinical language too cold. The tradeoff is that someone looking for a mystical or scholarly teacher may find the therapy vocabulary more present than expected.
