Gustavo Gitti

Gustavo Gitti writes and teaches about meditation and Buddhist wisdom. His site gathers texts, interviews, talks and courses, along with sections on TaKeTiNa, Vida Simples and dharma.

In his essay "Vivemos uma crise de interesse" he argues that what many people call a deficit of attention begins as a deficit of interest: in the mind's potential, in reality, in other people's lives, in ancient wisdom traditions, in everyday life. For him, a little interest is enough to focus attention, and interest is the greatest force. He ties it to wisdom, compassion and stability. Wisdom makes us more curious and willing to look again and again. Compassion turns us toward what lies beyond ourselves. Steadier attention and a relaxed body and mind help sustain that interest.

The essay closes as a wish. He hopes people will ask deeper questions, from what happens when we dream to how we might come together to reduce social inequality. He also hopes that when something moves them, such as a quotation from Matthieu Ricard, they will keep following it: to the whole book, to teachers, to a living lineage and beyond.
