Sound Healer
Shanti Sounds Costa Rica is Ayi and Michael Wong Mayzel, partners in life and work, based in Nosara, Guanacaste, in one of the world's Blue Zones. They offer Sound Journeys for groups and individuals, along with workshops and retreats. Each journey is composed in real time with gongs, alchemy crystal bowls, chimes and other overtone instruments, listening closely to the room and the people in it.
Ayi is originally from Amsterdam. She holds an MA in Philosophy and Asian studies and has certifications in various healing and bodywork modalities. Her early experience with Vipassana meditation made silence a central teacher, and she has studied with Sri Dharma Mittra, Andrei Ram Om and Pio Vucetich. She practices Qigong and is a student of Mingyur Rinpoche. She specializes in individual sessions.
Michael is originally from Canada. A percussionist, he received his first initiation into sound through music. He is a longtime meditator and a Nationally Certified Instructor of the Institute of Integral Qi Gong and Tai Chi. He has been involved in Asian practices for over 30 years and holds a Black Belt in Shotokan Karate.
Together they have toured and taught in Europe, Asia, North America and Costa Rica. They are the Paiste Authorized Gong Centre in Costa Rica and distribute a range of artisan healing instruments. Their Sound Temple stands on land where more than one hundred musical instruments were found in an archaeological dig. They see their work as a new continuation of something very old.
