For the first-time listener, expect this: piano-centered compositions that begin simply and accumulate. Ray's voice will likely strike you before his words do—warm, multi-tracked, occupying the middle and upper registers with occasional falsetto flights. Lyrics, when present, favor invocation over narrative. Don't expect hooks in the pop sense; expect recurring melodic phrases that function more like sung meditation anchors. The production is clean but not clinical, polished but retaining the feel of someone building cathedrals from their living room studio.

What may surprise: the music's restraint. Given the "shamanic" framing, you might anticipate wildness, dissonance, or experimental edge. Instead, Ray's sound stays melodically generous and harmonically accessible. The experimentation lives in duration, layering, and intent rather than sonic disruption. This is consciousness work for people who love Stevie Wonder, not necessarily for drone purists or sound-bath seekers expecting Himalayan bowls.

He's not devotional kirtan (Jai Uttal, Krishna Das), not Sufi ecstatic (Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan), not gospel praise (Kirk Franklin), not quite neo-soul mainstream (though closer to that root). He's what happens when a soul composer trained in melody and harmony decides the tradition's tools can serve transformative listening as powerfully as they've served heartbreak and celebration. His music asks: what if conscious music didn't have to sound "Eastern" or "ancient" to work? What if it could sound like home?
