Meditation Teacher · Montreal, Canada
Dawn Mauricio is a Buddhist meditation teacher who brings together mindfulness meditation, Buddhist wisdom and Somatic Experiencing. Her guiding belief is stated plainly on her site: "Insight helps us see. Practice helps us change." Mindfulness can help us see clearly and choose wisely, she says, but it is repetition that gives the body the strength to follow through.
She teaches intensive meditation retreats, class series and drop-in classes, online and in person. She also leads the Everyday Dhamma Community, an online community with three tiers that range from steady practice support to deeper study and mentorship. She offers one-on-one Somatic Experiencing sessions for QT/BIPOC meditators, and she has taught monthly BIPOC sangha classes and co-taught the Living Dharma Program, a study of the Buddha's Noble Eightfold Path, with Mark Coleman.
Her writing and recorded practice reach people between sessions. She sends weekly meditations through Substack and monthly Dhamma reflections by newsletter. Her book is Mindfulness Meditation for Beginners.
Jack Kornfield, co-founder of Spirit Rock Meditation Center, writes on her site that she is "a wise and skilled teacher and mentor." Tara Brach, author of Radical Acceptance, describes her as a teacher who transmits mindfulness through "her steady presence, her warmth, her passion and her deep embodiment of the path."
Worth Knowing
Dawn Mauricio is a Montreal-based Buddhist meditation teacher, author, and Somatic Experiencing practitioner who has been teaching mindfulness since 2005. She trained through Spirit Rock Meditation Centre's rigorous 4-year Retreat Teacher Training program and mentors within Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach's Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, anchoring her work in the lineage of contemporary Buddhist psychology and trauma-informed practice. Her teaching style—playful, dynamic, and grounded in personal storytelling—stands apart from the austere or depersonalized approach some expect from Buddhist instruction. People follow her work because she brings Dharma teaching into everyday life while refusing generic spiritual platitudes; her philosophy that "individual and collective liberation is our birthright" and her emphasis on somatic understanding attract both seasoned practitioners and people new to meditation. She works primarily online through her Everyday Dhamma Community and apps like Insight Timer and Happier Meditation, making her accessible to a global audience seeking Buddhist practice rooted in trauma sensitivity and cultural specificity.
