Autechre @ Estragon

Autechre arrive in Bologna for a late-night performance at Estragon, bringing three decades of sonic innovation to one of Italy's most respected electronic music venues. If you've ever felt the pull of music that operates beyond melody and rhythm—sound as pure structure, as mathematics made tangible—this is an opportunity to experience two of electronic music's most uncompromising artists in their element. Rob Brown and Sean Booth have spent their career pushing the boundaries of what electronic instruments can express, evolving from early techno into deeply abstract, architecturally complex compositions. A performance by Autechre is an invitation to surrender to sound on its own terms: to let your mind follow patterns you might not have known existed.

This is not a meditative kirtan or a breathwork ceremony, but it shares with contemplative practice a quality of deep listening and surrender to something larger than the self. The Estragon stage becomes a space where precision and intuition meet, where the listener is challenged to move beyond expectation and into genuine encounter with sound itself.

What to Expect

You will experience a live electronic performance in a dedicated music venue. Autechre typically performs using a custom setup of synthesizers, controllers, and processing equipment, translating their studio compositions into a kinetic, unfolding sonic landscape. The late-night time slot creates an immersive environment designed for deep listening. Their sets are known for their complexity and refusal to follow conventional song structures—expect intricate layering, evolving textures, and an approach to rhythm that rewards full attention. This is an evening for those seeking an experience beyond the predictable, a chance to be transported by sound crafted with meticulous care over more than thirty years.

About Autechre

Autechre are an English electronic music duo formed in 1987 by Rob Brown and Sean Booth, both from Rochdale, Greater Manchester. They have been central figures on Warp Records, the UK's pioneering electronic label, since the early 1990s, beginning with their 1993 debut album, Incunabula. They first gained wide recognition when featured on Warp's 1992 compilation, Artificial Intelligence, a landmark release that shaped the sound of contemporary electronic music. Their musical evolution—from early, melodic techno recordings to later works widely regarded as abstract and experimental—reflects an ongoing commitment to complex composition and sonic exploration. Their influence on electronic music and sound art remains significant three decades after their formation.
