Lisa Olivera is a psychotherapist, writer, and guide whose work centers on embracing our humanity and accepting ourselves fully in order to live more whole, meaningful lives. She describes herself as devoted to practicing presence, cultivating deep relationship, and finding beauty and aliveness alongside the aches of being human, while still seeking laughter and joy.
She holds a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Dominican University, where she received the Dr. Robert Schukraft award for Inspirational Leadership. She has worked in schools, community-based mental health, and private practice. Her therapeutic work and writing are rooted in embracing the unknown, finding home in the body, meeting grief and joy, and making room for possibility.
Lisa writes books, including Already Enough and When the Ache Remains, and a newsletter called Human Stuff. She also facilitates workshops, writing circles, and offerings centered on staying close to self, community, and the earth. She grew up as an adoptee, and she says that early experience of not belonging gave her an intimate relationship with pain and grief. It also gave her a desire to walk alongside others as they move toward joy, connection, and presence, even amid what hurts.
She lives in Sonoma County, California, with her husband, daughter, and two cats.
Worth Knowing
Lisa Olivera is a psychotherapist, writer, and meditation teacher who lives in Sonoma County, California, with her husband, daughter, and two cats. Her work stands out in the mindfulness space because it is grounded in clinical training, not only contemplative practice. She holds a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Dominican University and has worked in schools, community-based mental health, and private practice. Her central premise is that wholeness comes from accepting yourself fully rather than editing yourself into a more acceptable version, and her books reflect that. Already Enough takes the affirming side of that idea, while When the Ache Remains stays with grief and what persists after it. Her biography also shapes the work: she grew up as an adoptee, and she says that early experience of not belonging gave her an intimate relationship with pain and grief, along with a desire to walk alongside others toward connection and presence.
