Lee Mirabai Harrington (Sangye Rinchen Lhamo) is an ordained ngakma (tantric householder yogini) and mantra-healer in the Yuthok Nyingthik lineage, a tradition of Tibetan Buddhism connected with Sowa Rigpa and Medicine Buddha. She is a kirtan artist and mantra musician based in New York's Hudson Valley. She is also a certified Tibetan spiritual healer who specializes in modalities from the energy-healing branch of Tibetan medicine.
A life-long spiritual seeker, Lee has studied yoga since her teens and has followed the Mantrayana path of Buddhism since 2002. Her love of mantra has led her to chants from Hindu, Sikh, Native American, Shamanistic, Taoist, Sufi and ancient Christian traditions. Among her teachers she counts His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Amma, Meher Baba, Shyamdas and Yogi Bhajan. Her daily practice remains rooted in Buddhism, Green Tara and the Divine Mother in all Her forms. For Lee, leading kirtan is not a performance but a spiritual, devotional and healing experience. She believes each of us can heal ourselves and others through our own voices and these mantras.
She has sung for the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa at Madison Square Garden and for Amma at Amritapuri Ashram in India. She has offered kirtan, mantra workshops and meditation classes at Bhakti Fest, Shakti Fest, the Omega Institute, Sivananda Ashram Bahamas, Satchidananda Ashram-Yogaville, Tibet House and many other venues. She has served on the faculty at Kripalu and Menla, teaching meditation, mantra, Nejang and Tibetan self-healing practices. She has sung or recorded with Gaura Vani, Steve Gorn, Sirgun Kaur and Johanna Beekman, among others. She chants weekly with her hometown kirtan sangha in Woodstock, NY.
Her debut album, Beyond the Beyond, an eclectic mix of mantra music from the Buddhist, Hindu and Sikh traditions, was released in 2016. It has the blessings of the Venerable Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche. Since the pandemic she has recorded at her home studio and released a handful of singles a year with producer Ben Leinbach. Her next project, A Secret Sky, will feature healing mantras from the Tibetan Buddhist and Sowa Rigpa traditions.
Lee holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College and wrote the memoir Rex and the City. She has taught creative writing at New York University and Columbia University and was an editor at Zoetrope: All-Story. Today she edits dharma books and spiritual memoirs.
