The Shape of the Work

Kirsty Lyon's teaching is built for people whose nervous systems are already stretched thin. Her public material suggests sessions that run slower and more contained than much of the breathwork and meditation world. The aim is not catharsis or breakthrough. It is the felt sense of being held inside a practice. A session would likely combine paced breathwork, guided attention to sensation, temperature and texture in the body, and room for the nervous system to settle on its own terms. Her own phrase for what these practices offer is "moments of safety and softness."

There is no verified record of a retreat calendar or live event schedule at present. Her recorded guided practices on Insight Timer, and her YouTube channel, are the clearest window into how she teaches. Those are practices to be done rather than lectures to be absorbed, and the format fits the work.

Recurring Themes

The through-line is the relationship between mind and body, and in particular the nervous system's role in how a person perceives threat and safety. Several themes follow from that.

Regulation. Learning to notice the current state of the nervous system and develop ways to move toward calm, without treating activation as a failure.

Self-compassion. Bringing kind attention to the parts of oneself that have been defended against or rejected. Her teaching pushes back against the shame many people carry about anxiety, OCD and panic.

Somatic awareness. The body is treated as a source of information that thinking alone cannot reach.

Difference without defect. Neurodivergence is framed as a reality that requires different strategies and attunement, not a problem to be solved.

Her central statement is blunt: you are not broken and do not need fixing. Healing, in her account, is not becoming a perfect or more loveable version of yourself. It is bringing awareness, compassion and acceptance to all parts of you.

The Questions She Asks Students to Hold

Her framing implies a few questions more than it states them. What is my body doing right now, and can I let it be doing that? What am I trying to escape in myself, and what happens if I stay near it? Which parts of me have I been treating as enemies? And, underneath these, what would it mean to stop chasing a more acceptable self and practice accepting the one already here? These are not comfortable questions for anyone who came to meditation to be corrected.

Delivery and Aesthetic

Her delivery is characterized by precision, gentleness and an absence of shame. Her language leans toward the psychological and physiological (nervous system states, parts of self) rather than spiritual platitude, which keeps the practices practical and demystified. Nothing in the available material points to scripture, devotional chanting or heavy use of humor, and it would be a mistake to invent them. The distinctive element is personal testimony used sparingly. She draws on her own history of anxiety, OCD, panic attacks and depression from childhood into her early thirties, and on the chronic illness that forced her to slow down. She is explicit that she does not tell this story as someone who has it figured out. That refusal of the arrived-master role shapes the whole tone: whatever a student is experiencing is treated as valid information, not evidence of failed practice.

Who It Lands For, and Who May Bounce Off

The work is best suited to people dealing with anxiety, panic, trauma history, chronic complexity or neurodivergence, who need permission to stop striving. No prior meditation or breathwork experience is required. The practices are guided step by step, and the frameworks are presented in contemporary psychological terms rather than esoteric ones.

It will likely frustrate others. Seekers oriented toward transcendence, peak experience or rapid transformation will find it restrained. So will anyone wanting mantra-based devotional practice or high-energy somatic release. People who came to healing convinced that something is fundamentally wrong with them, and who want external techniques to correct it, may resist a teacher who asks them to befriend what they want to escape. The work is grounded in contemporary trauma psychology rather than classical contemplative texts, so those looking for immersion in a traditional system will not find it here. And because her certifications are recent and her public profile is still developing, those wanting a teacher with decades of established reputation or large institutional backing may look elsewhere.

The Wider Tradition

The bio names no single lineage, guru or spiritual teacher, and none should be assigned. What it names are training pathways. She holds a Trauma Informed Breathwork Facilitator certification (Pause Breathwork, via the International Breathwork Foundation) and a Holistic Life Coach & Mind Body Practitioner certification (MBF Institute). She is an advanced-year Somatic Experiencing® practitioner trainee, and she holds an IFS-informed certification from the IFS Online Circle (IFS Institute, 2025). She continues to study through trainings, seminars and masterclasses.

Together these place her within contemporary trauma-informed, body-based practice rather than inside any one school. Breathwork works with the body's physiology, Somatic Experiencing with the nervous system's survival responses, and Internal Family Systems with the psyche as a set of parts. That combination is the closest thing to a tradition her work has, and it is a modern, clinical-leaning one. Her free breathwork meditations on Insight Timer are the most direct way to judge whether her temperament suits what you are looking for.
