About This Event

Description

There is a language the body speaks long before words arrive, and most of us were never taught to read it. This yoga retreat at Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California, offers a week devoted to learning that language slowly and with curiosity, guided by somatic teacher and breathwork facilitator Lihi Benisty.

The Inner Atlas: Mapping the Self through Somatic Self-Inquiry is a five-day immersive retreat built around the idea of cartography. Through breathwork, somatic movement, writing, sound, and relational mirrors, participants explore the terrains that live beneath language: where breath meets bone, where memory lives in muscle, where story shapes identity, and where the future self waits to be remembered.

This is not a week to become someone new. It is an invitation to meet the person who has been here all along, layered, complex, rhythmic, and alive. If you are drawn to inner work that is patient rather than prescriptive, and to a coastal setting that supports it, this retreat was shaped for you.

What to Expect

Each day opens a distinct landscape to traverse. The week moves from the dense knowing of the body to the subtle currents of emotion, from inherited stories that live in the bones to the archetypes that move us unseen. The pace is unhurried. Sensation, story, memory, and meaning are mapped as they surface, rather than forced into view.

The practices include:

- Breathwork and somatic movement to listen to the body's own intelligence
- Writing to give shape to what emerges
- Sound as a way into feeling and presence
- Relational mirrors, so that self-inquiry is also witnessed and shared

Throughout the week, Lihi offers guidance and tools for each participant to create their own Inner Atlas: a living body-map of sensation, story, lineage, and possibility. It is meant to serve as a compass, a way back to yourself when life asks you to choose yourself.

About Lihi Benisty

Lihi Benisty guides immersive somatic experiences rooted in breath, movement, and self-inquiry. Her poetic approach fosters emotional resilience, inner confidence, and embodied presence, inviting students to honor their full humanity and live from a place of depth. In this retreat, that approach shapes a week that is as much about listening as it is about practice.

Venue & Logistics

FAQs

The week combines breathwork, somatic movement, writing, sound, and relational mirrors. Each day opens a different layer of being, from the body's dense knowing to emotion, inherited stories, and archetypes. The pace is slow and curious, focused on mapping sensation, story, memory, and meaning as they surface.
It is a living body-map of sensation, story, lineage, and possibility. Lihi Benisty gives each participant guidance and tools to build their own over the week. It is meant to work as a compass for returning to yourself when life asks you to choose yourself.
No. The organizer states plainly that this is not a week to become someone new. It is framed as an invitation to meet the self that has been here all along, through patient exploration rather than self-improvement.
It suits people drawn to inquiry that lives beneath language, where body, memory, and story intersect. You should be comfortable with slow, exploratory work that includes movement, writing, sound, and partner or group reflection. It will likely not suit anyone looking for a fast-paced, outcome-driven or purely lecture-based program.
