About This Event

Description

Little Surrealist Tour is a monthly family art tour at The Dalí in St. Petersburg, Florida, made for children ages 4 to 11 and the adults who come with them. On the first Sunday of each month, families take a short guided walk through the museum's permanent collection of surrealist art, led by a museum educator.

It suits families looking for a gentle, unhurried way into a museum, and children who are curious about unusual, dreamlike pictures. No prior art experience is needed.

What to Expect

The tour begins at 10:15 a.m. at the Third-Floor Overlook and runs until 10:45 a.m. Thirty minutes is a sensible length for younger visitors, long enough to look closely at a few works and short enough to keep attention fresh.

Along the way, the museum educator introduces surrealist masterworks, with an introduction to both classical and contemporary surrealist art. The aim is simple: awesome art and family fun, in a setting where children are the ones being spoken to. The tour covers the permanent collection only, not special exhibitions.

The program repeats on the first Sunday of every month, so families can return again and again to see the collection with older and wiser eyes.

The Setting

The Dalí is an art museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, and the tour gathers on its third floor at the Overlook. From there, the group moves into the permanent collection galleries.

Before You Go

- Ages: The tour is designed for children 4 to 11. Adults should stay with their children throughout.
- Experience: None required. The tour is family-friendly and meant for first-time museum visitors as much as regular ones.
- Language: English.
- Admission: Gallery admission is required to enter the galleries. Museum members receive complimentary admission and can reserve a free member spot in advance.
- Included: The guided tour with a museum educator and access to the permanent collection galleries.
- Not included: Meals or refreshments, transportation, and special exhibitions beyond the permanent collection.

Plan to arrive a little before 10:15 a.m. so your family is settled at the Third-Floor Overlook when the tour begins.
