About This Event

Description

Power Yoga Long, Slow & Deep (LSD) Master Class is a yoga workshop led by Bryan Kest, the creator of Power Yoga, at Yoga Drugace in Kranj, Slovenia. It is a chance to practice in person with a teacher who has shaped how vigorous, breath-led yoga is taught, in a class built around the pace its name describes: long, slow and deep.

Kest is on a European tour of master classes, and this Kranj session is one of the stops. It suits practitioners who know Power Yoga by name and want to learn from its source, as well as anyone in Slovenia and the nearby region looking for a Power Yoga master class with a teacher of his background.

What to Expect

The class is a master class in the Power Yoga tradition, in the Long, Slow & Deep format. Kest's teaching is broader than the way "power yoga" is often used today, as a label for any strenuous class. In his view, power lies in strength, the yang side of practice, and equally in gentleness, the yin side. Health, he teaches, comes from a balance between the two, and that balance is personal. Each student has to find their own.

Students are asked to breathe deeply through the nose, to honor their limits, and to back off when sensation turns into strain. Comparing yourself with the people on the next mat is discouraged. Meditation and gratitude run through the practice. Kest describes the aim as a system of exercise that fully integrates body, mind and spirit.

About Bryan Kest

Bryan Kest was born in 1964 and began practicing yoga in 1979, at the age of 14. He was among the first Westerners to learn Ashtanga, studying in Hawaii with David Williams and in India with Pattabhi Jois. He has been teaching since 1985 and is the creator of Power Yoga. He is known for insisting that the practice be adapted to the individual rather than the individual forced into the practice.

The Setting

The class takes place at Yoga Drugace in Kranj, Slovenia.

Before You Go

Come ready to practice by your own measure. Kest's approach rests on listening to your body, working with sensation without pushing into strain, and letting your effort be your own rather than a performance for the room. That attitude matters more than how advanced your practice is.

Common Questions

FAQs

It is the slower, gentler counterpart to his vigorous Power Yoga classes. It draws on Kest's view that power lies in both strength (yang) and gentleness (yin), and that real health comes from balancing the two. Expect a session centered on the yin side of that balance.
No. Kest points out that 'power yoga' has become a generic term for any vigorous class, while his own version is broader. This LSD session emphasizes gentleness alongside strength, so it is not designed as a sweat-focused workout.
Kest is the creator of Power Yoga. He began practicing in 1979 at age 14 and has taught since 1985. He was one of the first Westerners to learn Ashtanga, studying with David Williams in Hawaii and Pattabhi Jois in India, so his teaching rests on decades of experience.
His classes ask students to breathe deeply through the nose, honor their limits, and back off when sensation turns to strain. He also holds that the right balance between strength and gentleness is personal and has to be found individually. You are expected to adjust the practice yourself rather than push to match others.
