The Psychological Virus Inherited From Childhood That Sabotages Your Work

Peter Crone
Peter Crone

11 min read

Peter Crone works with a coaching business owner struggling with impostor syndrome and constant self-criticism despite her clients' positive results. Through dialogue, he reveals that her real problem is not her business skills but an internalized parental message from age 11: "You will grow up to be a loser like your mom and your sister." This single phrase, operating as a psychological virus for 28 years, has shaped her entire identity and coping mechanisms. Crone demonstrates how such inherited beliefs don't require logical refutation—they require recognition as constraints that have been mistaken for truth, and how accepting one's humanity can dissolve the imposed prison.

What Does Impostor Syndrome Really Mask?

The coach begins by framing her problem as impostor syndrome and a need to fix her inadequacy. She reports that despite clients consistently telling her they had transformative experiences, she beats herself up, believing she doesn't know enough. Crone quickly reframes the conversation: "Right now with that energy you're a complete impostor. You started the whole thing, you got this impostor, and you want me to help with your business—is how you started, right?"

The core insight here is that she is attempting to overcome something that is fundamentally human. As Crone states, "One of the hardest parts about being human is being human, and one of the qualities of being human is trying not to be human." By fighting her own humanity, she has become the impostor. Her self-critique is not a sign of integrity or commitment to growth—it is a sign that she has accepted a false premise about herself.

This distinction is crucial for anyone struggling with perfectionism masked as professional development. The problem is not inadequate knowledge or insufficient effort. The problem is the belief system underneath the striving.

How Does a Single Parental Message Become a 28-Year Prison?

When Crone asks where she learned that being herself was not enough, she points to her childhood and specifically her father. She recalls him telling her: "You're going to grow up and be a loser like your mom and your sister."

She attempts to dismiss this memory with qualifications: "But I feel like no, no, no, no, no..." Crone interrupts: "There's no 'but' in that statement. The 'but' is the work that you keep doing." This is a critical observation. Every effort she makes to prove herself, every achievement, every certification, every testimonial from a satisfied client—all of it becomes evidence that she is resisting the verdict her father issued. Instead of neutralizing the message, her striving reinforces it.

She was approximately 11 when she first heard this statement and has replayed it in her own mind repeatedly for 28 years. The father's phrasing is particularly insidious: not "You are a loser" (present tense) but "You will become a loser" (future fate). This creates a sense of inescapable destiny rather than a current condition that might be overcome through effort.

Why Does Trying to Fix Yourself Reinforce the Problem?

Crone articulates a psychological paradox that lies at the heart of many personal development pursuits: "If you think there's something wrong with you, and that's like a survival instinct, you have to do work to try and overcome that—which is reinforcing what? That there's something wrong with me."

This creates a closed loop. The belief "I am fundamentally deficient" generates the behavior "I must constantly work to fix myself," which generates the evidence "See, I am still broken, because I'm still working on it." The work itself becomes proof of the deficiency.

He offers a provocative reframe: "What if I told you the only thing that's wrong with you is that you think there's something wrong with you?" This is not dismissive optimism. It points to a specific mechanism: the problem is not reality but the belief system about reality. Her clients' positive feedback is evidence that contradicts the verdict, yet she discounts it because the verdict feels true at a deeper level than logic can reach.

What Is the Adaptive Strategy Beneath the Perfectionism?

A 11-year-old girl hears that her future is predetermined to be failure. She cannot escape this prediction through reason or argument. What she can do is attempt to become so exceptional, so accomplished, so undeniably competent that the prediction will be disproven. This is an adaptive response to an impossible situation.

Crone notes: "It's natural, right? Like all a child—we all just want love and acceptance, right? And here's a gorgeous little 11-year-old...there's so much preciousness in that being." The perfectionism, the overwork, the constant self-criticism—these are not character flaws. They are survival strategies. A child cannot argue with her father's logic. She can only try harder.

But there is a tragic flaw in this strategy: the verdict was framed as destiny, not as a condition to be overcome. "You're going to become" a loser means that no matter what she does, she will eventually become one. The harder she works, the more futile it feels, because the outcome is already written.

Crone describes two possible adaptive responses to a belief in one's fundamental inadequacy. One person becomes a perfectionist, gets the corner office, builds a successful business, and tries to disprove the harsh judgment. Another person gives up and ends up on the streets. Both are responding to the same narrative—"I'm not good enough"—but with opposite behavioral outcomes. This is why people from identical trauma backgrounds can end up in radically different places: the trauma itself does not determine the outcome; the adaptation does.

How Does a Belief Become Invisible?

By age 39, the woman has been living with this constraint for 28 years. She has likely done substantial therapeutic and personal development work, which is why she says, "I've done so much work on this." Yet the belief persists. Why?

Crone explains: "The danger that was once without becomes the enemy within. So you start to see the world you've lived in." The parental message, once an external threat, has been internalized so thoroughly that it now feels like truth, like the way the world actually is. It no longer feels like a belief someone taught her; it feels like a fact she has discovered about herself.

This is the nature of what Crone calls a "psychological virus." It replicates itself through the host's own efforts to overcome it. It masquerades as self-awareness. It looks like honesty about one's limitations. It can coexist with genuine success because the success is interpreted not as evidence of competence but as evidence that you're fooling people (the definition of impostor syndrome).

What Is the Difference Between a Belief and the Truth?

Toward the end of the conversation, Crone makes a distinction that is both simple and profound. He tells the woman: "That belief at least is something you're holding that you haven't necessarily questioned as being the truth." Later, he says more directly: "You've never been a loser. That's not a truth. That's a belief."

The belief feels true. It feels like accurate self-assessment. It feels like maturity and self-awareness to acknowledge one's limitations. But feeling true is not the same as being true. A belief is something you learned and absorbed; a truth is something that exists independent of your belief about it. You can change a belief. You cannot change a truth.

Crone is not arguing that positive thinking will solve the problem, or that she should simply decide to believe she's competent. Rather, he is proposing that she notice the constraint—"I will become a loser"—as a constraint, something her nervous system accepted as a survival mechanism, not as an accurate description of reality.

What Happens When You Stop Fighting Your Own Humanity?

A key moment in the dialogue comes when the woman realizes the circularity of her effort. She acknowledges, "I've done so much work on this" and Crone asks, "Yeah, but why have you done so much work?" She answers, "Cause I still feel like there's something wrong." The admission itself becomes the evidence that validates the belief.

But there is a way out of this loop, and it does not require more work. It requires acceptance. Crone states: "You have no interest in me helping you with your business. What you're looking for is love of self, and you find love of self, your business will 10x."

The business is not the problem. The constraint is that she cannot access self-love while she is occupied with proving she is not a loser. Those two activities are incompatible. One requires constant vigilance and self-criticism; the other requires letting go of the verdict altogether and returning to the basic fact of her own existence—that she is here, she cares deeply, she helps people, and none of that requires justification to her father's ghost.

How Do Survival Mechanisms Become Invisible Prisons?

Crone uses the metaphor of prison throughout his teaching. Every person, he suggests, has a psychological prison created in childhood. These prisons are invisible because they feel like truth. The woman's prison is: "No matter what I do, I will become a loser."

Inside this prison, all her striving makes sense. She must work harder, learn more, prove her worth. But the prison itself is the constraint. She can spend her entire life trying to get out through effort, when what the prison actually requires is recognition: "Oh, that's just a sentence my father gave me. That's not the truth of who I am. That was his fear, his shame, his projection."

Once the constraint is recognized, she no longer has to fight it. She no longer has to prove it wrong. She simply has to notice that she is not, in fact, becoming a loser—that her life, her work, and her impact are already evidence to the contrary, and they always were.

What Is the Opportunity in Recognizing a Psychological Constraint?

Crone offers a final reframe toward the end of the conversation. The woman now has an opportunity that she did not have as a child, when her father's words first landed. She can now recognize the constraint, examine it with the adult intelligence and experience she has accumulated, and step outside of it.

This is not about making her father wrong or forgiving him in some superficial way. It is about seeing that the verdict he issued was never actually about her. It was about his own limitations, fears, and the patterns he inherited. She can release the verdict without needing him to release it first. She can love herself without his permission.

When she does, Crone suggests, her business will naturally flourish. Not because she will suddenly know more or work harder, but because she will be able to operate from a place of trust in her own judgment and in her clients' genuine experience of her work. The impostor feeling will dissolve, not because she has proven herself, but because she will no longer be defending against an imaginary verdict.

Where to Go from Here

The first step is to identify the specific constraint you inherited from your childhood. What did a parent, teacher, or other authority figure tell you that you accepted as a verdict on your future? It may not be as explicit as "You'll be a loser," but it might sound like "You're not smart enough," "You're not lovable," "You're too sensitive," "You don't belong," or "It's all up to you."

The second step is to notice how you have adapted to survive that constraint. What behaviors, beliefs, or perfectionist strategies have you developed to try to escape or disprove the verdict? Are you overworking? Overachieving? Seeking constant validation? These are not personal failings; they are intelligent responses to an impossible situation.

The third step is to recognize that the constraint is not truth. It is a belief you learned, not a fact about reality. Your nervous system accepted it as true because it helped you survive at a time when you had no other choice. But you are no longer that helpless child, and you are not obligated to continue defending against a verdict that was never yours to carry.

Finally, consider whether the work you're doing to fix yourself might actually be reinforcing the very belief you're trying to overcome. What would it be like to simply accept yourself as you are—flawed, human, and already whole—and to let your work and your life flow from that acceptance rather than from the need to prove something?

[0:00] so I'd love some support on my business

[0:03] okay because I feel a lot of impostor

[0:05] syndrome okay and I'm noticing that a

[0:08] lot of my feeling of inadequacy is

[0:11] getting in the way of the work that I'm

[0:12] here to do okay so I work with clients

[0:16] in the healing space and I feel like no

[0:18] matter how many times that they tell me

[0:20] they had a transformative experience or

[0:22] they feel like they had a great session

[0:24] I'm constantly beating myself up telling

[0:26] myself that I don't know enough or I

[0:28] need to learn more yeah and I feel like

[0:31] it's just getting in the way of the work

[0:33] that I want to do I beat myself up over

[0:35] it because I am a coach I feel like I

[0:37] should be able to work through this okay

[0:40] because she's a coach she thinks that

[0:41] she should work through this so what is

[0:43] the underlying energy of that because

[0:46] right now with that energy you're a

[0:48] complete impostor you started the whole

[0:50] thing you got this imposter and you want

[0:51] me to help with your business is how you

[0:53] started right and your concern is you

[0:55] you've got this impostor feeling even

[0:57] though your clients are getting good

[0:58] results but here you are with a self

[1:01] reflective ability where you're trying

[1:03] to overcome the feeling that there's

[1:04] something wrong with you right what I

[1:08] want you to consider is because you're

[1:09] trying to overcome something that is

[1:13] what

[1:14] human so here you are a human helping

[1:18] humans trying not to be

[1:21] human you get how [ __ ] up that is it's

[1:25] one of my other quotes I say one of the

[1:26] hardest parts about being human is being

[1:28] human

[1:30] and one of the qualities of being human

[1:32] is trying not to be human so you're ride

[1:35] on

[1:36] track but you're being an

[1:38] impostor so what we want to go a little

[1:41] deeper is why why are you playing that

[1:43] game where did you learn that being you

[1:46] was not enough yeah definitely in my

[1:48] childhood for sure who more than anyone

[1:52] I mean both parents but definitely a lot

[1:54] from Dad and what were some of the

[1:57] things you

[1:58] heard well one time and I mean and it's

[2:00] hard because again I go back to this

[2:02] piece of I've done so much work on this

[2:05] here it is yeah but why have you done so

[2:06] much work cuz I still feel like there's

[2:08] something wrong yeah yeah doesn't it

[2:10] make sense if you think there's

[2:11] something wrong with you and that's like

[2:13] a survival Instinct that you have to do

[2:16] work to try and overcome that which is

[2:19] reinforcing what that there's something

[2:21] wrong with me yeah what if I told you

[2:23] the only thing that's wrong with you is

[2:24] that you think there's something wrong

[2:25] with

[2:28] you okay so what did dad say

[2:31] well one of the things I remember is him

[2:33] telling me that I was going to grow up

[2:34] and be a loser like my mom and my sister

[2:37] okay that's some super strong

[2:39] affirmations right yeah um so say it

[2:43] again that he told me I'm going to grow

[2:45] up and be a loser like my mom and my

[2:48] sister but I feel like no no no no no

[2:51] butt no butt no butt no butt there's no

[2:53] butt in that statement the butt is the

[2:56] work that you keep

[2:58] doing what age do you remember remember

[3:00] hearing that first off maybe like 11

[3:05] yeah and how often did you hear it after

[3:07] that I mean I heard it replaying in my

[3:09] own head over and over yeah what's it

[3:12] like to walk around that who you are is

[3:14] you're going to grow up to become a

[3:15] loser like your mom and your sister it

[3:18] feels

[3:20] awful yeah what did that little girl do

[3:23] to

[3:24] compensate and know tried to do what she

[3:26] could to not be a

[3:27] loser yeah it's natural right like all a

[3:31] child what did I say at the beginning we

[3:32] all just want love and acceptance right

[3:35] and here's a gorgeous little 11-year-old

[3:37] I don't care who you are but an 11

[3:39] especially as a little girl there's so

[3:40] much preciousness in that being and just

[3:43] reading your energy and how committed

[3:44] you are and the fact that you're here

[3:46] and that you're the first to ask a

[3:47] question and you want to help your

[3:49] clients like you're just riddled with

[3:51] the fact that you care and you want to

[3:52] do a good job much of which has been

[3:54] exacerbated because of this fear that

[3:56] you're going to be a loser right so it's

[3:58] like you sort of it's imperative at this

[4:00] point right that you get beyond that

[4:02] because it actually hurts so much at the

[4:05] deepest level that you're this precious

[4:07] bundle of

[4:09] love like every everything is an act of

[4:12] Love or the search for it you have no

[4:14] interest in me helping you with your

[4:17] business what you're looking for is love

[4:20] of

[4:21] self and you find Love Of self your

[4:24] business will

[4:26] 10x do you see

[4:28] that so walking around in a world where

[4:31] who you are relative to other is you're

[4:34] a loser and that's the future you're

[4:36] also stepping into because the way he

[4:39] phrased it is you're going to become so

[4:41] it's like it's one thing for a parent to

[4:43] say to a child you're you're an idiot

[4:45] like that's present tense right but

[4:47] there may be a glimpse of hope that they

[4:49] could get out of that if I work really

[4:51] hard I become a good boy and I become a

[4:53] perfectionist and then I might escape

[4:56] the the this Destiny of scorn that my

[5:00] father gave me but you know it's sort of

[5:02] like doesn't matter what you do you're

[5:04] going to become a loser like your mom

[5:05] and your

[5:07] sister so it becomes like absolutely

[5:11] futile because it doesn't matter what

[5:13] you do your prison sentence is not only

[5:16] how you feel now but it's also something

[5:18] that you're perpetually trying to

[5:21] avoid do you see that yeah it's

[5:24] extraordinary that you look as healthy

[5:25] as you are and that you have by the

[5:27] sounds of it a really nice impact on

[5:29] people

[5:31] cuz somebody who has this particular

[5:32] sentence like there's different ways we

[5:34] can be maladaptive or adaptive in the

[5:35] way that we respond or react to our

[5:37] constraints so someone who's not good

[5:39] enough might become the perfectionist

[5:41] people please will work hard get the

[5:43] corner office get the house in the

[5:45] suburbs and I'm going to I'm going to

[5:46] disprove my [ __ ] father I'm going to

[5:48] make him wrong but someone who's also

[5:49] not good enough was like what's the

[5:51] point I might as well just hang out with

[5:52] this gang and do drugs and end up on the

[5:54] streets and when I first told people

[5:56] that the person in the corner office

[5:57] versus the person on the streets of

[5:59] coming from the same narrative they're

[6:01] like that's just crazy but it's how we

[6:04] respond to

[6:05] it and so for Trisha here to be like in

[6:08] this whole world of I'm going to no

[6:11] matter what I do be a loser like my mom

[6:13] and my sister can you see that's like a

[6:15] life sentence and this is why I talk

[6:17] about these prisons and you've all got

[6:19] them and some of you right now I've seen

[6:21] a few tears just walking around like

[6:22] this one's a little close to the Bone

[6:23] for you because you have very similar

[6:25] one right and then we can see that the

[6:28] adaptation of a human being CU we so

[6:30] desperately want to survive it's all

[6:32] about survival then what she has to do

[6:34] is not be a loser and do everything she

[6:37] can to avoid being a loser so her

[6:40] intentions are really you know logical

[6:44] but sadly the language from a father has

[6:46] stopped and now it's it's in it's in the

[6:49] machine the virus has taken hold you

[6:52] know the danger that was once without

[6:54] becomes the Enemy

[6:57] Within so you start to see the world

[6:59] you've lived in mhm you happy to share

[7:02] how old you are right now yeah yeah 39

[7:05] 39 right so here we got a story that's

[7:07] 28 years old think about that and this

[7:11] is why like I had the most beautiful

[7:13] conversation with this woman from

[7:14] Holland in my Mastermind on Saturday

[7:16] who's a single mom of two and she has

[7:19] migraines and so she wanted me to help

[7:21] her out with her migraines and

[7:22] understand and her version of she's

[7:24] going to be a loser was that it's all up

[7:26] to her it's all up to her right you can

[7:29] imagine it's like like many of you here

[7:31] are single parents they like well of

[7:32] course it is she's a single parent like

[7:33] what the [ __ ] is he talking about right

[7:35] but that was from a very young age and

[7:37] it's all up to her and so when it comes

[7:39] to particularly for her the cycle and

[7:41] now she's got even more pressure right

[7:43] because she's not feeling great and but

[7:44] she still has to cook and provide and do

[7:46] laundry and da da D and play games so

[7:48] she was constantly in a state of

[7:50] pressure and when she saw that the the

[7:53] statan it's all up to her as a

[7:55] subconscious constraint it's not a truth

[7:57] it feels that way I have compassion for

[7:59] it I understand it it's just not a truth

[8:02] and when you can distinguish between

[8:04] something that's a reality almost three

[8:06] decades huh I'm a loser I'm going to be

[8:08] a loser it's pretty convincing to her

[8:10] it's not even convincing as a belief

[8:11] it's just who she is and there a the

[8:14] very subtle distinction between what I

[8:16] say the you that you are for yourself

[8:18] versus a a limiting belief a limiting

[8:20] belief at least is something you're

[8:21] aware of she's just being somebody who's

[8:24] trying not to be a loser like it's

[8:26] driving every part of her thinking

[8:29] acting and results so when this woman

[8:32] really got like holy [ __ ] that's just

[8:34] not true that it's all up to me it feels

[8:35] that way at times and I don't but she

[8:37] does have support or she could you know

[8:39] just even if it's Universal support like

[8:41] you know pray to Jesus or sweet baby

[8:43] Jesus or something right it's not all up

[8:45] to you right she said holy [ __ ] I said

[8:48] how would that feel like if it's not all

[8:49] up to you and she's like I don't even

[8:52] know and she articulated it so well cuz

[8:55] I'm working with people and when they

[8:56] see it that it's not a truth you're not

[8:58] good enough that you're not a loser that

[8:59] you're not not save I'm like I'm

[9:01] introducing you to a world that you're

[9:03] not familiar with and it really is that

[9:06] and she said but it's so kind of scary

[9:09] but exciting because I feel like I've

[9:11] got this whole other place to

[9:14] explore outside of the prison of what

[9:17] was previously completely defining her

[9:19] does that make sense so we start to get

[9:22] the world of here's this beautiful woman

[9:24] with all the best intentions what she's

[9:26] here to do it's sort of philanthropic

[9:29] she's got this she wants to make a

[9:31] difference but she's literally in a

[9:33] prison energetically emotionally and

[9:34] psychologically which then Cascades into

[9:36] her physiology I'm sure it impacts our

[9:40] relationships yet it's all based on a

[9:42] fundamental

[9:43] lie so what are you getting from what I

[9:45] just shared that I'm not actually a

[9:48] loser say it a little louder for people

[9:50] I'm not actually a

[9:55] loser yeah and what does that say about

[9:57] your future I'm not going to become a

[9:59] loser I mean just try it on I mean I

[10:02] don't I don't want to [ __ ] ruin your

[10:04] whole miserable life and give you a life

[10:05] of joy

[10:07] and I'm not going to become a loser no

[10:11] and how do we know that because I've

[10:12] never been one to begin

[10:18] with what does that feel like to say it

[10:21] feels like I'm like meeting my real self

[10:23] for the first time yeah don't resist

[10:26] it and you thought you wanted to improve

[10:29] your business

[10:32] I would been such a disservice if I

[10:33] tried to help you improve your business

[10:36] there's people lining up right now to

[10:38] work with you that don't even know you

[10:40] exist they're going to come across this

[10:43] woman because for whatever reasons in a

[10:45] post in a story in an interview in a

[10:47] podcast they'll go there's something

[10:48] about this girl she's so at peace with

[10:51] herself I want that she would have

[10:53] attracted the perfectionists of people

[10:55] pleases for short the type A's right

[10:57] because that would have resonated with

[10:59] her not trying to be human do you now

[11:02] get why you were an impostor because I

[11:04] was trying not to be human I mean that's

[11:07] probably a pretty big reason isn't it

[11:09] yeah I I just want you all to get

[11:11] whether you're coaches teachers parents

[11:14] lovers all anybody wants is to really be

[11:19] gotten to really be seen heard and

[11:22] held how well can you see hold he be

[11:28] with someone if you're Mo your agenda

[11:31] for yourself is I'm trying to be perfect

[11:34] and not be human yeah I can't it's

[11:37] amazing you've had a

[11:40] career you have talent you have gift and

[11:42] your intentions are pure but like really

[11:44] really get like when you're in a prison

[11:46] and think about it literally if

[11:48] someone's in a prison and their

[11:49] commitment is like you know if someone

[11:50] right now called us from San Quenton you

[11:52] know and it's like they're in the cell

[11:53] number 58 and it's like can you help me

[11:55] with my business it's like what are you

[11:58] doing selling cigarettes like how like

[12:00] you're in prison right but it's the same

[12:02] like it's like you got to understand if

[12:03] you're in a prison in here Your Capacity

[12:06] to access true potential is literally

[12:09] limited it's not fictitious it's

[12:14] literal so she has a business but it it

[12:16] it Pals in comparison to the world that

[12:18] her whole physiology is already stepping

[12:22] into she you know it's going to take a

[12:24] minute just with like Ryan Michelle like

[12:26] it takes a minute to integrate she's not

[12:28] so old like not that I mean like for any

[12:30] of you are above 39 but you know no

[12:34] offense but the older we get the more

[12:36] like convincing our stories become it

[12:38] becomes a little bit more stubborn right

[12:40] and so at least for her there's a

[12:42] there's a there's a there's a spirit

[12:44] there's a freedom about her that I feel

[12:46] like it's going to be pretty [ __ ]

[12:47] instantaneous like she like my only kind

[12:50] of counsel to her is like get

[12:53] ready get ready because this isn't about

[12:56] improving business she she literally

[12:59] just open a portal to an entirely new

[13:01] world that she previously didn't know

[13:03] exist outside of the constraint of

[13:05] thinking she's a

[13:07] loser can you see that she's walking

[13:09] through life energetically like this

[13:11] trying to avoid becoming the very energy

[13:13] she keeps

[13:16] perpetuating the same woman that I spoke

[13:18] to in my Mastermind she's got migraines

[13:20] and other health issues she wanted me to

[13:22] help her with when she realized she's

[13:24] living in a world of it's all up to her

[13:25] which is a survival strategy because she

[13:27] had to take care of her parents when she

[13:29] was young the dad was a drunk and D so

[13:31] as a young girl she was charged not with

[13:33] the story she's a loser but with the

[13:35] charge of the the responsibility of

[13:37] taking care of her parents can you

[13:39] imagine the weight of that and then she

[13:41] wondered why she had health issues and

[13:44] she's like oh my God I just realized the

[13:46] means by which I try to survive meaning

[13:48] she takes it all on the means by which

[13:50] she's trying to survive is what's

[13:53] killing

[13:54] her you do you get how mad that is she

[13:58] really got it she's like holy [ __ ] the

[14:00] mechanism I'm using to try and survive

[14:03] is what's killing me she's trying to

[14:07] enhance her business by using a

[14:09] mechanism that makes her

[14:11] unattainable

[14:13] unrelatable

[14:15] inauthentic and especially in the realm

[14:17] of coaching you know if there's one

[14:19] thing that I pride myself on is like you

[14:21] anyone who's listened to me on a podcast

[14:22] or something my master mind you know I'm

[14:24] the first to lose it talk about my story

[14:26] I am far from

[14:28] perfect so now in the world of you're

[14:31] not a loser you've never been a loser

[14:33] you can't actually be a loser how might

[14:36] you feel I feel more

[14:39] confident that's usually a good

[14:41] precursor to a better business I feel

[14:43] more loving of myself and accepting yeah

[14:47] again one of my quotes they say please

[14:48] never become perfect you'll have no one

[14:52] to relate

[14:55] to you now have a lot of people to

[14:57] relate to and I promise you as it

[14:59] relates to coaching in any kind of

[15:02] council that is the platform upon which

[15:04] you get to make the biggest

[15:07] impact what could you now see possible

[15:10] stepping out of and it's literally a

[15:11] stepping out of the constraint that

[15:13] you're a loser and that you're going to

[15:15] be a loser how might you relate to your

[15:17] dad

[15:18] differently being more accepting of him

[15:21] yeah so he like any of you and I'm not

[15:25] in any way condoning because I don't

[15:26] know all of your stories whatever you

[15:27] went through that was probably you know

[15:29] for some of you very traumatic and I

[15:30] don't want to dismiss that meaning you

[15:32] know if some of you were hit or really

[15:34] abused but I really want you to consider

[15:36] in the Arc of your journey of what it is

[15:38] to be human in this incar Incarnation

[15:41] then in ways you may not be consciously

[15:43] aware of you did attract and curate the

[15:45] events of your life because you're here

[15:46] to transcend

[15:48] something so this was not a conscious

[15:51] part of her but nonetheless her father

[15:54] serves as the teacher for her Soul's

[15:57] Evolution does that make sense without

[16:00] getting too heady meaning if it weren't

[16:02] for the Catalyst of you're going to

[16:04] become a loser like your mom and your

[16:06] sister she doesn't go on the heroine's

[16:08] Journey of trying to overcome that only

[16:11] to realize oh I'm the one that took that

[16:15] on you know again one of my quotes I say

[16:18] other people's words will only hurt you

[16:20] to the degree that you already believe

[16:23] them do you get that now as a kid of

[16:26] course you don't have the discernment to

[16:27] be able to say oh no that's just Dad

[16:29] having a bad day of course I'm not a

[16:30] loser I'm a Divine being who's Timeless

[16:32] boundless and

[16:33] Limitless unless you're an indigo child

[16:36] but

[16:38] you so for the most part you know you

[16:40] take it on like you know that's it mom

[16:42] said that Dad said that and it's a truth

[16:45] and then as soon as you adopted the

[16:46] truth as though that's who you are

[16:47] that's when you start your journey of

[16:49] self-preservation and survival where you

[16:51] literally abandon yourself when I said

[16:53] to her how would that feel she said I

[16:55] feel like I'm coming back to

[16:57] myself and that's her Journey full

[17:00] completion and now she gets to go to a

[17:02] different oscillation of what is it like

[17:04] for her to live outside of the

[17:06] constraints of she has the propensity

[17:08] and the likelihood of being a loser but

[17:11] do you not feel like already like can

[17:13] you see even like as an inuitive like as

[17:16] a woman can you see that you just

[17:18] changed the future timeline that you

[17:20] were otherwise on can you see that right

[17:24] because your your future was probable

[17:27] it's predictable right like human

[17:28] behavior if you look at anything the

[17:30] stock markets and people like doing

[17:32] whatever just the way you think your

[17:34] your spouse is going to react you've got

[17:35] some evidence and it's sort of

[17:36] predictable you know if you did X you're

[17:39] going to get the whatever reaction

[17:41] you're accustomed to so on that timeline

[17:44] you have a probable and predictable

[17:45] future so hers would have been what you

[17:49] know sign up for the next course do

[17:50] another Workshop you know work harder

[17:53] meditate Matt meditation is wrong do

[17:54] another meditation right pay more for

[17:58] the other meditation teacher you know

[18:00] just to keep working on there's

[18:02] something wrong with her okay so real

[18:05] talk though I was just about to sign up

[18:07] for a program like how much was the

[18:11] program going to be like almost 12K 12K

[18:14] I'll take

[18:15] six um saved you six grand that's you're

[18:19] welcome so there was ego self that was

[18:21] coming through and soul self that was

[18:23] coming through because ego self really

[18:24] was like oh this program is going to

[18:27] help forward your business and soul self

[18:31] kept saying no I kept hearing the

[18:33] message you don't need this you don't

[18:35] need this and then I was just like just

[18:36] go to Peter grow and see what happens I

[18:39] mean literally sign up for my Mastermind

[18:41] you'll save seven and I promise you I'll

[18:43] I'll make sure that you realize how

[18:44] ordinary and and there's something wrong

[18:46] with you and you'll be like I feel

[18:49] amazing yeah yeah well good you're

[18:52] welcome so can you feel it it's

[18:54] different right yeah I feel more just

[18:57] permission to be myself yeah like her

[18:59] whole breathing pan changes she's no

[19:01] longer destined for this loser future

[19:05] she comes into a place of Freedom which

[19:07] then gives her a sense of peace and ease

[19:09] and so her physiology instantaneously

[19:12] changes and I see it every single time

[19:15] have a minute it doesn't matter who I

[19:17] work with I literally see their

[19:18] breathing pattern change immediately

[19:20] that they get

[19:21] something healing happens

[19:24] instantaneously when you step out of

[19:26] prison think about it literally the rele

[19:29] Le that somebody has when they're beyond

[19:31] the cage beyond the bars but you all

[19:34] have your own version that's what's

[19:35] available for you when you get outside

[19:37] of the constraints of your subconscious

[19:39] it seems like Miracle work and it is

[19:41] relative to the norm but when you really

[19:43] get it it's

[19:45] physics and that's the beauty of this

[19:48] this is why I feel like the luckiest guy

[19:50] alive because to me it's so Crystal

[19:52] Clear I can hear the stories like

[19:54] screaming at me from the subconscious

[19:56] and my role is just to help reveal it so

[19:58] she gets

[20:00] it I could already tell with the way she

[20:02] spoke and she even thinks it's incumbent

[20:04] upon her to heal people and the work

[20:06] she's up to you can feel the pressure

[20:08] and it's like okay now I can see that

[20:10] she's playing in a world where she's

[20:11] trying to become something she's trying

[20:12] to prove something that immediately

[20:14] tells me that she doesn't accept herself

[20:16] at

[20:17] all that immediately tells me why her

[20:19] business is not working because why are

[20:20] people going to see her more than

[20:22] anything everyone wants to feel self-

[20:25] accepted mental health that people talk

[20:27] about every day the number one Elixir

[20:31] antidote for mental health is

[20:34] self-love but her self-love was wrapped

[20:37] up in

[20:39] self-improvement than got you you're

[20:42] like [ __ ] I'm doing the same

[20:46] thing it's one of my literally my

[20:48] favorite sayings she was becoming the

[20:52] best version of her limited

[20:55] self everybody's doing that and that's

[20:58] human it's okay but I'm so so happy that

[21:02] I get to completely bust open your

[21:04] limited

[21:05] itself and then it becomes this like

[21:08] infinite exploration of true

[21:12] potential so forget about improving her

[21:14] business how about just accessing true

[21:17] peace accessing true

[21:19] Vitality stepping into true

[21:23] abundance when now not when she finishes

[21:26] a 12K program that wouldn't have worked

[21:31] right would have given her more

[21:32] information to work on and again I know

[21:34] it's a little dismissive maybe there's

[21:36] some good content in there again there

[21:37] are obviously other means to getting to

[21:40] this place of freedom I just don't know

[21:42] many cuz I've looked because I was in

[21:44] the same situation you know a couple of

[21:46] decades ago becoming perfect

[21:49] Pete seriously that was my [ __ ] name

[21:51] in

[21:52] college yeah no

[21:54] pressure perfect Pete I'm like okay I

[21:57] can live up to that

[21:59] yeah it's like that's a [ __ ] terrible

[22:01] game to

[22:02] play yeah but that was again that was

[22:05] appropriate for the person that I'd

[22:07] become orphaned at a young age truly

[22:10] pushed into survival completely up to me

[22:12] because I don't have anyone so I better

[22:14] in order to Garner love and acceptance

[22:16] and whatever I've got to become

[22:19] perfect which equally made me so

[22:21] unrelatable so I'd enjoy the fact that

[22:23] there's something wrong with you it's

[22:25] great being [ __ ] up can you see the

[22:27] opportunity now for your business

[22:29] business yes yeah and what a service you

[22:32] will be now for everybody that you get

[22:33] to work with cuz they promise you they

[22:36] all have their own version and you can

[22:39] now meet them there and that might be

[22:41] all they

[22:42] need because at the end of the day we

[22:45] all just want to be loved and accepted

[22:46] and you couldn't access that for them

[22:50] because you didn't have it for

[22:52] yourself that includes your dad he was

[22:56] doing the best he could and he was your

[22:57] greatest teacher and that's where the

[22:59] Gratitude comes in thank you

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

When you believe something is fundamentally wrong with you, any effort to fix it becomes proof that something is indeed wrong. The work itself generates evidence supporting the belief. Breaking this cycle requires recognizing the belief itself as the constraint, not the behaviors that stem from it.
Yes. When a child internalizes a parental verdict—especially one framed as destiny rather than current fact—it becomes a psychological constraint that operates invisibly as truth. Over decades, all her behaviors, achievements, and self-criticism become organized around defending against or accepting that verdict.
A belief is something learned and internalized that feels true but can be questioned and changed. A truth exists independent of belief. A belief feels like accurate self-assessment, but recognizing it as a belief—not a truth—creates the possibility of stepping outside it.
Perfectionism is often an adaptive strategy to survive a belief in fundamental inadequacy. The person works harder and achieves more to disprove an internalized verdict, but the perfectionism reinforces the underlying belief that something is wrong and must be fixed.
Once you recognize a constraint as inherited—not as truth—you can examine it with adult awareness. You no longer have to defend against it or try to escape it through effort. You can simply notice it and decide whether to continue organizing your life around it.
Yes. Two people with an identical core belief of inadequacy might respond adaptively in opposite ways—one becomes an overachiever, the other gives up. The belief doesn't determine the outcome; the adaptation does. Both are intelligent responses to an impossible situation.
High achievers with impostor syndrome are often operating from an internalized verdict about their fundamental inadequacy. The achievements don't resolve it because the verdict feels true at a level deeper than logic. The real issue is the belief, not the competence.
First, identify the specific constraint and how you've adapted to survive it. Then recognize it as a belief, not a truth. Finally, step out of the need to prove or fix it. Self-love and acceptance are not something you earn; they are your baseline once you stop defending against a false verdict.
