[0:01] opposed to attendees not being here
[0:03] everybody it is Daniela port and my dear
[0:05] friend Terry Cole and the conversation
[0:10] today is about love and in thinking
[0:13] about this I was really you know I just
[0:16] have to defer to uh Joanie Mitchell I've
[0:19] Looked at Love from both sides now and I
[0:22] really don't know love at
[0:25] all um the reason we're doing this is
[0:28] because more than once
[0:32] Terry has just sort of peeled me off um
[0:37] off the coach smoking cigarettes in her
[0:40] backyard in the middle of a divorce
[0:42] breakups longings getting my own stuff
[0:45] together family of origin stuff and
[0:47] Terry is the person you want on your
[0:49] team and every time I'm spending time
[0:52] with Terry like we can be in a cab this
[0:55] is this always happens we're in a cab or
[0:58] we're walking somewhere and
[1:00] Terry is getting texts always asking for
[1:03] advice and then she looks at me she's
[1:04] like oh got to talk cwet oh gotta with a
[1:07] 411 on this and there's a reason for
[1:11] that so it's about Lucidity it's about
[1:13] heart it's about Terry's pure intention
[1:16] it's about Terry actually having the
[1:19] psychotherapeutic skills not just made
[1:22] this up not just made up her own
[1:24] coaching certification and talk to a
[1:27] couple people but really don't and we
[1:29] were setting our intentions before this
[1:31] call um as we do with like you know
[1:35] every event whether we're getting on
[1:37] stage or or it's online
[1:40] and our Collective intention together
[1:43] was to really help anybody who's
[1:45] listening to this and not listen to this
[1:48] to turn towards their own light to get
[1:51] that Clarity and that strength in
[1:53] relationships and I think it's fair to
[1:56] say Tara that this call Will skew
[1:59] towards romantic
[2:01] relationships yeah yes okay but it is
[2:05] it's all um relevant because it's really
[2:08] all about you the person asking the
[2:10] question the people who are
[2:12] attending and this will you
[2:15] know these theories are going to apply
[2:17] to your lover you have the lover you
[2:20] don't have and your boss who may be your
[2:22] lover um and your parent you know so it
[2:25] goes across the board but I thought we
[2:27] should lay down some clarity on some
[2:30] Concepts first great so let's just do
[2:33] this rapid fire I want to throw out a
[2:35] concept at you and you tell us what it
[2:37] really means okay so um I had never
[2:40] heard the term Koda before you but I had
[2:44] heard codependent so I now know that
[2:46] Koda is shorthand for codependent but
[2:49] Terry Cole um what's codependent mean uh
[2:54] codependent means that when you're in a
[2:55] relationship codependency describes the
[2:58] way you relate to the other person so
[3:00] it's like what's happening to them and
[3:02] in their life feels like it's happening
[3:05] to you you feel an Uber
[3:07] responsibility so example if you come
[3:10] home and your partner your husband
[3:13] whoever is in a terrible mood although
[3:15] you were in a great mood before you
[3:16] walked in the door suddenly your mood
[3:18] changes and either you work very hard to
[3:22] get them in a better mood right but you
[3:25] immediately take on the energy that
[3:28] they're giving off and it's a lot of
[3:30] work um codependence a lot of times
[3:33] originally like in the 80s Melody batty
[3:36] wrote a very um famous book called
[3:39] codependent no more which a lot of the
[3:41] time had to do with addicts being in
[3:44] love with an addict and sort of taking
[3:45] on their chaotic stuff and what what a
[3:48] codependent is really trying to do is is
[3:50] trying to control everything in the
[3:54] relationship desperately trying to
[3:55] control their partner usually failing
[3:59] but doing everything like a codependent
[4:01] parent will be doing the homework for a
[4:03] child because they have so much anxiety
[4:06] about the kid failing or not doing it
[4:08] now obviously that's not appropriate
[4:10] right you don't teach a kid anything by
[4:11] doing their homework but that's an
[4:13] example of that and there's a new kind
[4:16] of codependency yeah I'll make it quick
[4:19] yeah that it's called I call it it's a
[4:22] new kind of codependency that I'm
[4:23] talking about which is called high
[4:24] functioning
[4:26] codependency because this is what I see
[4:28] in my practice more than the other kind
[4:31] so what's high functioning codependency
[4:33] is this just professional women who are
[4:35] behaving codependent what what is it yes
[4:38] it kind of is that but it's not just
[4:41] that it's that these are women who are
[4:43] incredibly capable in all these other
[4:46] areas of their life and they're very
[4:47] smart so there's a level of
[4:50] intellectualizing what they're doing
[4:53] because they're like well I'm not
[4:54] codependent because they see that as
[4:56] weak they see that as someone who
[4:58] doesn't have their [ __ ] together they
[4:59] see that as someone who isn't them and
[5:02] yet the cost for this high functioning
[5:06] which is even it's almost like a high
[5:07] functioning alcoholic where you don't
[5:09] miss a day of work you never get a DUI
[5:11] it's even more Insidious because no one
[5:14] can point to it right they it looks like
[5:17] you've got it all under control but
[5:18] you're just as exhausted and that's the
[5:21] cost of high functioning codependency is
[5:23] exhaustion oh and and not being truly
[5:26] known and feeling like your partner is a
[5:28] child instead of your lover and not
[5:30] feeling like they can hold you or hold
[5:33] you up and take care of you it certainly
[5:35] doesn't feel like a partnership when
[5:37] you're always feeling like you're left
[5:39] holding the bag or in reality you're
[5:41] grabbing the bag to make sure that it
[5:43] gets done the way that it should get
[5:44] done okay okay so talk to us about blame
[5:48] the dynamic of blame and
[5:50] relationships uh it's so toxic and there
[5:53] are certain relationships that have a
[5:55] lot more like certain specific styles of
[5:58] relationships that um use blame a lot to
[6:02] stay in these polarized positions about
[6:04] things it's very um Petty obviously but
[6:08] it's I mean minus the Judgment I say
[6:11] it's Petty because a lot of times what
[6:12] you're blaming each other about they're
[6:14] not even important
[6:16] things right they're like well I told
[6:18] you we had sugar why did you buy more
[6:20] sugar like I don't get like just the
[6:22] negativity making the other person wrong
[6:25] and why do we do it
[6:27] insecurity not feeling taken care of
[6:29] feeling that attacked by the other so
[6:31] it's a style of relating in a
[6:34] relationship and most of the time it's a
[6:36] learned
[6:38] style okay so let's go back to
[6:40] codependency for a second whether you're
[6:42] high functioning or not um why are we
[6:46] codependent well there's many reasons in
[6:49] childhood that bring this on in
[6:50] adulthood so as children in a chaotic
[6:53] system a violent system an alcoholic
[6:55] system a drug riddled system um for
[6:58] children with
[7:01] um um violence in their life but also
[7:05] parents who expect too much from them
[7:06] like there's like a a certain like
[7:08] perfectionist thing where you have to do
[7:09] it all perfectly right and this also
[7:12] side note which we'll talk about after
[7:14] creates a lot of
[7:15] empaths children in chaotic or
[7:18] neglectful homes really creates empaths
[7:23] and and this is something that is like
[7:25] the blessing and the curse of the empath
[7:27] which we can talk about after and and
[7:29] let me let me let me just um I want to
[7:33] pull out that that childhood scenario so
[7:37] when I hear that you know alcohol
[7:41] neglect any kind of addiction I would
[7:44] also like to throw in there just like a
[7:46] a long-term General
[7:48] instability yes right so I don't come
[7:52] from an addictive background but my
[7:54] parents are breaking up all the time I
[7:57] mean I didn't know if we were going to
[7:58] make it through Christmas yeah where
[8:00] they were going to split up I didn't
[8:02] know if we were getting a new house for
[8:04] spring if I was going to have two
[8:06] apartments and this was happening really
[8:09] frequently
[8:10] so there's an there's a few other like
[8:13] conditions to insert and to I get that
[8:15] there are what we what we call them is
[8:18] chaotic systems because the instability
[8:21] that you describe would fall into a
[8:23] chaotic system because you didn't have
[8:25] that Solid Ground so why does that
[8:28] create codependency because children
[8:30] were in a dangerous position if the if
[8:33] the system was violent but even in an un
[8:37] um up and down system like you're
[8:38] describing you're always like raing the
[8:42] room you're always feeling like is this
[8:45] a night where there's going to be a big
[8:46] bra or is this a night when we're gonna
[8:48] play Monopoly and it's going to be okay
[8:50] I guess we're g to find out but you're
[8:52] seeing and this gives you the ability as
[8:54] you get older to read people to read a
[8:57] room and this can be very adaptive and
[9:01] very maladaptive because if you are an
[9:04] empath who doesn't know how to protect
[9:07] themselves zip up their energy do energy
[9:08] work and I know obviously we both were
[9:10] friends we both know we do energy work
[9:12] but many people don't then you're like
[9:14] the you know gaping
[9:16] wound feel everyone's pain feel
[9:19] everything and it's so
[9:22] exhausting it's so exhausting yeah yeah
[9:26] I can relate to that I mean I know how I
[9:29] think I know I assume I I know who's in
[9:31] pain in the room and I know who's got
[9:34] their [ __ ] together and I used to
[9:37] think and this is really the dark side
[9:39] of a lot of new age teaching I used to
[9:42] think that protecting myself wasn't
[9:44] really essential or necessary because I
[9:46] would love and I was on the light side
[9:50] and I was doing all of my work and you
[9:53] know people come to see me on stage I
[9:55] mean they pay tickets to see me they
[9:57] must have great
[9:58] intentions and
[10:00] and the drainage after I I I wouldn't
[10:04] feel that and this isn't just with like
[10:07] being a public speaker this could happen
[10:09] from having tea with someone this could
[10:12] happen there's lots of ways the
[10:13] engagement can happen um and the feeling
[10:17] it took me a while to really identify
[10:19] this it would hit me the next day and I
[10:22] would wake up feeling hung
[10:24] over you know and I think we've almost
[10:27] all of us have been hung over um or you
[10:30] have a food hangover you have a sugar
[10:31] hangover because you ate too much before
[10:33] and I be like I didn't I don't why have
[10:37] H over today and because someone is like
[10:41] hoovering my
[10:43] shaki and because I just like I am I've
[10:47] got so much to give I come and come and
[10:50] listen and come and take it and here
[10:52] yeah no more of that no more of that
[10:57] so there's more Concepts I want to break
[11:00] down and we're going to get into like
[11:01] the gal of these questions but I think
[11:03] because we're here just give us give us
[11:06] the
[11:07] solution for first of all what's the
[11:09] opposite of being codependent just give
[11:11] us that language to to run through our
[11:14] systems sure being interdependent inter
[11:19] everybody
[11:20] interdependent oh that's good I love it
[11:23] okay interdependent so you're really
[11:25] having hold on this is a real love
[11:28] moment you're having a
[11:31] relationship it's not one of you trying
[11:33] to make the other do something that's
[11:35] really you here and then so
[11:37] interdependent is what it means exactly
[11:41] what you said it means that you there's
[11:43] a
[11:44] mutuality but that you are independent
[11:48] so you are a full unit alone I like to
[11:51] say that you are a perfectly delicious
[11:53] piece of cake all by yourself and when
[11:56] you find the right partner they might be
[11:57] some delicious icing
[12:00] but you don't need iing right it's just
[12:02] nice it's good an interdependent
[12:06] relationship is where in my own marriage
[12:08] Vic has certain special skills I have
[12:11] certain special skills I happily let him
[12:14] do what he's better at and thank him for
[12:16] it he does the same for me where we're
[12:19] both bad we try to get outside help
[12:21] right sometimes you don't have great
[12:22] skills you get outside help but really
[12:25] being mindful to allow the other person
[12:29] to do their thing like I'm super clear
[12:32] that in an interdependent relationship
[12:35] there is no
[12:37] ownership right I'm just lucky to
[12:38] partner with this person there's no
[12:40] you're not owning the other person right
[12:43] right you're taking ownership of
[12:45] yourself but not of the other person um
[12:47] T could you because this is when I knew
[12:49] you was a woing
[12:52] person um can you quickly tell the
[12:56] story about and maybe you don't want to
[12:59] tell this because this would be too
[13:00] personal for Vic um but you and Vic
[13:03] going to a wedding and that you've been
[13:05] to multiple weddings and maybe maybe Vic
[13:09] might have kind of busied himself before
[13:11] you needed to be somewhere important on
[13:15] time yes and one day you're going to a
[13:19] wedding yeah
[13:21] and what has Vic done before like as
[13:24] you're putting your lipstick on what's
[13:26] Vic doing right before you need to go um
[13:28] well he was getting in the car to make a
[13:31] quick trip to Home Depot but he was
[13:34] going to be back in plenty of time right
[13:37] okay and what
[13:39] happened well first of all how did you
[13:41] handle that when you see Vic like you
[13:43] know you're zipping up your dress and
[13:45] he's going to Home Depot okay well here
[13:49] let let's do a quick backstory which is
[13:51] that the only thing that Vic and I
[13:52] thought about was
[13:55] time I needed to be like a zillion hours
[13:57] early he needed to be late so this was a
[14:00] conflict I didn't understand it talked
[14:02] to my therapist and was like this guy is
[14:04] pretty much perfect for me nobody else
[14:06] just me but we have this weird conflict
[14:09] and when we get into this conflict I
[14:11] become a crazy person like I'm sitting
[14:12] in the car beeping the horn like a
[14:15] psycho who does that like I'm actually
[14:17] doing that and I was like I think I turn
[14:19] into like a different person something's
[14:21] wrong you explain she was like well
[14:24] Terry does Vic ever express his
[14:27] frustration with you about anything I
[14:29] was like nope she was like well you're a
[14:32] psychotherapist do you think it's
[14:34] possible that he's never frustrated with
[14:35] you I like no but I can't make him she's
[14:39] like oh but you can because what's
[14:41] happening is he's
[14:43] expressing the anger that is too
[14:45] threatening for him to express
[14:47] consciously through a passive aggressive
[14:50] behavior that will absolutely piss you
[14:52] off so that you will Express his anger
[14:56] for
[14:58] him
[15:01] how's that and I was like women around
[15:03] the world listening to this right now
[15:05] are going [ __ ] thank you
[15:08] yes yes because we feel our partner's
[15:11] anger yeah so okay so jump cut to so how
[15:14] do you fix it yeah we're going to the
[15:16] wedding so he's I'm dressed having my
[15:18] tea so I had a plan here was my
[15:20] experiment with my therapist that no
[15:22] matter how late he was going to make us
[15:24] be to this place we had to be I was not
[15:26] doing that part of the dance I was not
[15:30] going to be angry I was going to I
[15:31] really looked at my psychotic need to be
[15:33] so early and I was like okay well you're
[15:35] not normal either so you need to get off
[15:37] that whole got to be an hour early
[15:38] trained and just just be normal and
[15:41] realize that if you're late nobody's
[15:43] going to die that's just the way you've
[15:45] been worried so anyway I decided it's
[15:46] fine he comes back in and now he's going
[15:49] to do his part of the dance which is
[15:50] there was a guy in front of me he's
[15:52] going so slow I was like uh why do you
[15:54] have wood on the car just curious are
[15:56] you building something right now we're
[15:57] supposed to be leaving so I make the
[16:00] kids were there so I made the kids go
[16:01] and get the wood off the car I was like
[16:02] don't worry I said listen your your tux
[16:04] is ready it's all upstairs I'm drinking
[16:06] my tea he's continuing to do his dance
[16:08] on the Dance Floor the I think she's mad
[16:10] dance right right yeah and trying to get
[16:13] me to dance like come on sister get on
[16:15] he kept saying kept talking I kept
[16:17] saying hey I'm not mad don't worry I was
[16:19] like babe we have plenty of time I don't
[16:20] even care if we get there late we'll sit
[16:22] in the last row now he's looking at me
[16:25] because you know I'm always in the first
[16:26] row he's like wait Terry is always the
[16:29] first row yeah you know this is so yeah
[16:33] you're so ready and you're watching
[16:34] everybody come in late and you're like
[16:36] what the [ __ ] hell's wrong with them
[16:37] yeah they realize this is a wedding it's
[16:39] a sacred event anyway okay so he he's
[16:43] he's still doing his thing we end up
[16:44] moving you know we we go down if he
[16:46] comes we leave but he's still in the car
[16:49] being like I'm really sorry if that guy
[16:52] he's doing the same thing because he's
[16:53] really trying to provoke me to be mad
[16:55] because he is still frustrated he didn't
[16:57] get his fix I didn't explode I didn't
[16:59] make him
[17:00] wrong right so then he he now it's weird
[17:04] because we're driving and I'm actually
[17:05] not mad which was the most Revelation it
[17:07] was such a revelation for me where I was
[17:10] like actually not man I actually wasn't
[17:12] because I refused to let him shove his
[17:15] disavowed anger up my
[17:18] ass or down my throat it's called real
[17:21] talk with love yeah okay
[17:25] um and then what happened like when does
[17:28] he when does he stop
[17:29] dancing well that was kind of that
[17:32] honestly was the last time we danced in
[17:33] that way on the way back from the
[17:34] wedding the whole way there I was like
[17:36] you know babe I feel like this is we've
[17:38] had this conflict about time and I'm
[17:40] just opting out completely I love you
[17:42] I'm not mad I realize I'm nuts about
[17:44] time and I'm not doing that anymore so
[17:46] I'm just not and then and then he was
[17:49] like really so he didn't know what to
[17:52] say because he's like word on the way
[17:55] back I explained to him Ruth my
[17:56] brilliant therapist I told him what I
[17:58] thought happened and that she was saying
[18:01] it's his disavow anger and he's like why
[18:03] do you want to be me to be mad at you
[18:06] I'm not mad why you always want me to be
[18:08] mad I'm like okay I don't want you to be
[18:10] mad I want you to be honest tell the
[18:13] truth if something frustrates you is
[18:15] there anything I'm doing that's annoying
[18:17] you and he was like well sometimes when
[18:20] you wash your hair a lot of it gets in
[18:22] the drain maybe you could take that out
[18:24] okay I was like okay never in 20 years
[18:27] I've never washed my hair and not clean
[18:28] the drain like just tell me I was like I
[18:31] don't want it just be okay I want you to
[18:33] be super psyched in this relationship
[18:36] and you just saying like it's fine it's
[18:37] fine I don't want it to be fine I want
[18:39] you to be jumping for joy happy you know
[18:42] and that was it we we both and listen
[18:44] you fall back into it once in a while
[18:45] but not much honestly that was it where
[18:47] we both understood what was happening
[18:49] and then he had to start talking about
[18:51] how he
[18:53] felt yeah don't worry he did there's so
[18:57] much in that story I mean that is just
[19:00] that is a treasure chest of of issues
[19:03] and solutions and such a great example
[19:07] of you get to choose how you feel in
[19:11] every situation and then of course you
[19:12] get to choose your behavior and I think
[19:15] the
[19:16] most um like this most striking thing in
[19:19] the story is you really weren't mad you
[19:22] got yourself to not be mad in that
[19:24] situation so you know so much self-help
[19:27] stuff is about inner peace
[19:29] but it's it's so confusing about how to
[19:32] get there okay yeah
[19:35] um oh we could do this for three hours
[19:38] Let's jump
[19:40] into let's talk about the themes the big
[19:43] themes that came up in the questions
[19:45] that came in so we really honor
[19:46] everybody who showed up and then I I
[19:48] there's more um there's more isms that I
[19:51] want to throw at you and you can just as
[19:53] my mother say you just like shoot the
[19:55] [ __ ] out of the air okay so t uh
[19:58] well let me let me just address
[19:59] everybody who's on who's watching and
[20:01] listening you know we reviewed the
[20:04] questions and this happens with any kind
[20:06] of event like this where you get
[20:08] hundreds of responses and you can start
[20:09] to see the theme so you know we could
[20:12] specifically answer Marie's question or
[20:14] Emily's question or Jennifer um but what
[20:18] we did was we there's a lot but what we
[20:20] did was we looked at like the big theme
[20:23] so we can just really serve everybody so
[20:26] what did you see here and my assumption
[20:28] correct me if I'm wrong is that what
[20:30] what's showed up here for us is what's
[20:33] showing up for you in your one-on-one
[20:35] practice in the past so what's going on
[20:37] with uh with humans who identify as
[20:41] being women yes and then we will there's
[20:43] some that are really like super specific
[20:45] that maybe we will hit in the end like
[20:47] someone who's working in a war zone like
[20:49] I don't feel like that actually applies
[20:50] to everyone you know what I mean except
[20:52] probably the dynamic does one theme that
[20:56] I'm seeing is there was a lot of people
[20:58] asking questions about how can they get
[21:00] their partner to be different how can
[21:04] they get their partner to work on
[21:06] themselves how can they get their
[21:08] partner to communicate better how can
[21:10] they get their partner to care about
[21:13] their needs more meaning the person the
[21:16] woman's needs and so what I say about
[21:19] those things is that my theory and what
[21:22] I teach women is that you are the common
[21:25] denominator in your life and that you
[21:28] have to actually be the change you want
[21:31] to see in your relationship the same way
[21:34] you know Gandhi said be the change you
[21:35] want to see in the world and I don't
[21:38] mean give more like I'm not saying that
[21:41] I'm saying be specific like get clear
[21:44] about what you want and why you're not
[21:46] getting it so how do we do that you have
[21:49] these downloaded blueprints like we all
[21:51] do you were just talking about your
[21:52] parents I I'm always talking about my
[21:55] parents marriage and how that impacted
[21:56] me these are there's all these un
[21:59] conscious things that get laid down and
[22:02] this heavily influences our
[22:06] attraction um like who we attract and
[22:08] what we do you know I mean thinking
[22:12] about all of this everyone who wrote
[22:13] Things in is how do you actually and
[22:16] those of you guys who are on the line
[22:17] right now how do you actually want to
[22:20] feel in your relationship and again this
[22:24] is back to okay I have a solution for
[22:28] that have the answer you have an idea
[22:31] you should get clear on your core
[22:33] desired
[22:34] feelings I can relate that to a personal
[22:36] story so when I was writing the desire
[22:38] map in a nutshell for anybody who who
[22:40] doesn't know about that um the idea with
[22:44] desire maing is that you get clear on
[22:46] what I call your core desired feelings
[22:47] it's four or five uh preferred states of
[22:51] being that are that are really driving
[22:54] everything you do and so once you get
[22:56] clear on that preferred
[22:59] then everything your bucket list and
[23:01] your to-do list and where you're going
[23:02] to Holiday and who you hang out with and
[23:05] love is a reflection of those Co core
[23:09] desired feelings and of course you don't
[23:10] always get it but your life is really
[23:12] about generating those and it's a really
[23:13] powerful creative way of living you're
[23:17] really taking charge of how you want to
[23:19] feel um and when I was writing that
[23:24] book I know I guess you see heavy sigh
[23:27] the stor is coming when I was writing
[23:28] that book
[23:29] six or I don't know how many years ago
[23:31] six or seven years ago now I knew that
[23:33] my marriage was going to
[23:34] end and I was working with uh an energy
[23:38] worker at the time just one of my many
[23:40] crew that help keep my [ __ ] together and
[23:43] I said look I think I'm going to need
[23:45] about four months to finish this
[23:47] book and we just have to keep me
[23:50] together with some chicken wire um so I
[23:53] can stay in this situation and get this
[23:57] book out and then do do what needs to be
[24:00] done and at the same time I was so
[24:03] hopeful that that might change but that
[24:06] the fracture was becoming really evident
[24:08] so on one side this is I got is not
[24:12] going to work on the other side there's
[24:14] still hope because women empathetic
[24:16] women
[24:18] oh we are we can find we can find a the
[24:23] Spore the invisible Spore of Hope on the
[24:28] seene in in the corner and we can take
[24:30] it down and we will put that on our
[24:32] Altar and light a candle and think I had
[24:36] a feeling one day for a micr second that
[24:39] this could work I'm gonna hold on to
[24:41] that um and I knew while I was writing
[24:44] it I was talking about of course my own
[24:47] core desired
[24:48] feelings one of them at the time was
[24:51] communion and that was it that was all I
[24:54] really needed for the clarity I want
[24:56] more than anything to feel in communion
[25:00] with life with the life force with the
[25:02] people in my life all the people in you
[25:05] know closest to me and I feel the
[25:08] opposite of that which is separation
[25:12] antagonism all of that so core desire
[25:16] feelings help knowing how you want to
[25:17] feel in a
[25:19] relationship yeah yep yep um what's the
[25:24] other big juicy theme that is showing up
[25:28] in the these questions and that show up
[25:30] in your practice with
[25:31] women I mean the high functioning
[25:33] codependency the empath the the real
[25:37] thing is about not knowing the
[25:39] confusion around why they're repeating
[25:43] these unsatisfying behaviors it's like
[25:45] there's this
[25:46] compulsion to repeat that even super
[25:49] smart women don't understand why they
[25:53] can't stop it when they can run
[25:55] companies when they can birth children
[25:57] when they can do all of the amazing
[25:59] other things in the world they're like
[26:01] shouldn't I be able to figure this crap
[26:03] out like why is it so
[26:06] confusing and so I've over you know the
[26:08] 20 years that I've been doing this I
[26:10] came up with a way like a five pillar
[26:12] system of people to for for women to be
[26:15] able to just go through what is the
[26:17] first step to understanding why you are
[26:19] the way you are it's self-awareness
[26:21] there's a million billion things I tell
[26:23] you to do in there maybe not a million
[26:24] maybe five but things to do about
[26:26] self-awareness then you move into self-
[26:28] knowledge which is very specific to you
[26:31] which is also why there's a lot of other
[26:33] dating things out there in the world
[26:35] like finding your soulmate and those
[26:37] types of things that if they're not
[26:40] getting into a deep dive into who you
[26:43] are personally and what experiences you
[26:46] you had in your early life not not what
[26:49] everyone had just what you had in your
[26:51] early life that the one siiz fits all
[26:54] doesn't work which is why I created this
[26:56] real love revolution around
[26:59] what actually does work it's all about
[27:02] going in so after self- knowledge where
[27:04] we unearth all the stuff that's happened
[27:06] in your young life from what happened in
[27:09] your childhood besides your family of
[27:10] origin because that matters too the
[27:13] school situations the Friendship some
[27:15] people were bullied and you might have
[27:16] had a great family of origin but the the
[27:19] school thing still negatively impacts
[27:21] your sense of worthiness around love and
[27:25] desirability so it matters you know and
[27:27] so we're cutting out the crap that
[27:29] doesn't matter we don't need to talk
[27:30] about third grade ever unless third
[27:33] grade contains something that happened
[27:35] that is stopping you from getting what
[27:37] you want right now in 2017 you know
[27:41] because I feel like there's a lot of in
[27:42] therapy which is why I became a really
[27:44] why I became a relationship coach is
[27:47] that in therapy there's so much going
[27:48] back where you're like oh my God okay I
[27:51] know God damn we're GNA talk about my
[27:53] inner child again really and we are
[27:59] only if that injury that unresolved
[28:01] injury is impacting you not getting what
[28:03] you want
[28:05] today right so after you have self-
[28:07] knowledge you move into
[28:09] self-compassion which is the fourth
[28:11] probably maybe the I don't know they're
[28:13] all super important because the truth is
[28:14] you can't get to the end of it without
[28:15] doing all of them because
[28:17] self-compassion is one that I find that
[28:19] all of my perfectionist women have none
[28:21] of they're so mean they've got the inner
[28:24] mean girl they got the mafia mind going
[28:26] all the time compare and despair is like
[28:28] a daily experience why is this person
[28:31] doing better than me looks better than
[28:33] me has a better butt than me all of
[28:35] these things where they're not focusing
[28:36] in on what's amazing about them so
[28:40] compassion for what your young self
[28:43] experienced compassion for how scary
[28:45] that was my life experience your life
[28:48] experience those little kids deserve a
[28:51] grown-up us to say hey that was scary
[28:54] but I'm here now like I got us I'm doing
[28:58] it you don't have to worry because if
[29:00] you don't do that that injured little
[29:03] kid is really like running your romantic
[29:06] life not not the best way to be you know
[29:11] and then in the end is self- love that's
[29:13] that's the last pillar so let's go back
[29:15] to four for a second so your inner your
[29:18] wounded inner child is running your
[29:21] adult love life so for a lot of people
[29:24] that's revelatory okay and then let's go
[29:27] to the last step which is self-love yes
[29:30] self love comes after self-compassion um
[29:32] this is going to sound really basic but
[29:35] it's really profound what does self L
[29:37] look
[29:38] like it looks like drawing boundaries
[29:41] with ease and Grace it looks like being
[29:44] able to say
[29:46] no easily being being in touch with
[29:49] without prioritizing your desires your
[29:53] feelings what you want letting your
[29:55] preferences be known easily mhm and
[29:58] being fine it doesn't mean as you said
[30:00] before it isn't about always getting
[30:03] what we want I want you to tell the
[30:05] truth to learn to tell the truth and
[30:07] this is loving because I want you to
[30:11] fight for being authentically known in
[30:14] your life telling the truth isn't about
[30:17] getting you you know getting what you
[30:18] want always you know I think not enough
[30:22] people in this space or or let me let me
[30:24] let me just say this in a non-critical
[30:26] way I think we need to talk more about
[30:31] the weight the downside the consequences
[30:34] of loving yourself because what we hear
[30:36] a lot is all the positive things that
[30:38] happen when we love oursel and the
[30:40] pleasurable feelings and the inner peace
[30:43] and you're going to attract someone who
[30:45] you know kind of reflects back that love
[30:47] who can really meet you um but loving
[30:50] yourself can be really
[30:52] isolating loving yourself can make you
[30:54] really
[30:55] unpopular there you cannot love yourself
[30:58] with without some some push back and
[31:00] some disruption in your life and like
[31:04] you need to know that that's part of it
[31:06] like if I'm loving myself and I'm
[31:08] feeling good but my relationship with my
[31:11] mother is totally on the skids because
[31:16] I'm standing up for myself now or I'm
[31:18] making choices about being a powerful
[31:20] person I'm speaking the truth yeah there
[31:24] are there are consequences but it's
[31:27] worth it because because because why sry
[31:31] well first of all there are consequences
[31:33] but a new normal will emerge if you
[31:36] don't cave so those consequences
[31:40] are God tweetable it's out of context
[31:44] but I gotta write that down hashtag a
[31:47] new normal will emerge if you don't cave
[31:49] this is so important for everybody to
[31:51] hear yeah and so because here's the
[31:53] thing you guys in your relationships
[31:55] like you we love these complicated
[31:57] people we love our parents we love
[31:59] people even though they're nuts right we
[32:00] do just we love them and so the fear the
[32:04] little kid is afraid that if you say no
[32:07] to Dad or no to Mom or you do a
[32:09] different dance with them draw a certain
[32:11] boundary that you will be you know
[32:13] kicked out of the tribe and starved to
[32:14] death and died right died there's like
[32:16] some kind of a primal fear so when you
[32:19] realize this is where the adult you has
[32:22] to realize that your relationship with
[32:24] these people is more flexible than that
[32:27] and that you are not that fragile so
[32:30] you're going to do a different dance
[32:32] just like I did with my husband around
[32:34] time and there was some pushback right
[32:37] he was sort of like I don't think that's
[32:38] true but you know once we got into it
[32:41] then then he he could see it with people
[32:43] if you don't have an open dialogue you
[32:45] don't need to warn them even though you
[32:47] want to do you know like when we want to
[32:49] change something we're like I'm G to
[32:51] tell them it's going to be different now
[32:53] I'm not doing that anymore they're not
[32:56] you know and I'm always like to my
[32:57] clients like hey hey we don't need to
[32:59] send out a warning shot we good how
[33:02] about how about we just
[33:04] change slowly but surely baby steps we
[33:09] change the way that we interact so that
[33:12] it's more aligned with who we actually
[33:15] are and how we feel so we we're less
[33:18] angry at the people we love we're less
[33:21] bitter we we were less passive
[33:23] aggressive with the way that we're
[33:25] handling our frustration and they Come
[33:29] Aboard but you just can't cave they're
[33:31] going to do what Dr Harriet learner who
[33:33] I love is a brilliant PhD she wrote all
[33:35] these books in the 90s you know her she
[33:37] wrote the dance of anger the dance of
[33:38] deception intimacy marriage there's so
[33:41] many she's amazing though like my hero
[33:43] and she's the one who F i' first ever
[33:46] seen relationships and the dance you
[33:49] know so she basically says make the move
[33:52] they're going to do a change back move
[33:54] where suddenly someone might have a fake
[33:56] heart attack or they may like you know
[33:58] do something that's going to try to get
[34:00] you back in line and you can stay
[34:02] lovingly connected and not get back on
[34:05] the dance floor and sooner or later they
[34:07] just kind of stop like it actually is
[34:09] they they now don't feel so threatened
[34:11] because they're you're still lovingly
[34:13] connected to them you're just not doing
[34:15] a whole bunch of [ __ ] that you don't
[34:17] feel like
[34:19] doing I love it okay let's do some
[34:21] questions all right I got them all right
[34:24] so
[34:26] um this sums this one up his world viiew
[34:31] is very different than
[34:34] mine I'm rainbows and he is dark clouds
[34:37] I think we don't need to go deeply into
[34:40] This Woman's really beautifully written
[34:42] story so the issue here really opposite
[34:47] different worldviews What's Happening
[34:49] Here Terry Cole She
[34:52] said one thing that she said is that's
[34:54] okay can two people um who are so
[34:57] opposite make it work and what I wrote
[34:59] in the little notes is well sure but the
[35:03] question is the empowered question is at
[35:06] what cost to your happiness Paul yeah
[35:10] okay so anyway I my feeling is I think
[35:13] that I think this lovely person knows
[35:15] knows the answer to her question which
[35:17] is that it's a heavy relationship I
[35:19] think she feels guilty to leave it but I
[35:21] think that she probably wants to because
[35:22] she wants someone who might be more
[35:24] aligned with her worldview that's my two
[35:27] sents um let's let's walk let's do a
[35:31] rapid fire of the cost of staying in so
[35:33] we we cover the cost of being
[35:34] codependent I can tell you the cost of
[35:36] staying and from my own experience and
[35:38] from all my girlfriends we've all we're
[35:40] all on our like everybody's been
[35:42] divorced once not all of us but right we
[35:45] had our starter marriages and the cost
[35:49] is it's this foggy gray
[35:52] feeling um the cost is exhaustion the
[35:56] cost is mental confusion
[35:58] the cost is anywhere between an extra 10
[36:01] to 50 and upwards pounds the cost your
[36:05] children pay oh yeah the cost is you're
[36:08] not totally there I mean when I left uh
[36:13] my that when I left that marriage
[36:16] relationship one day you know there was
[36:18] another
[36:19] argument and I was crying yet again on a
[36:23] Saturday for all of the same
[36:25] reasons and my kid is
[36:29] downstairs wanting to do something
[36:31] because it's Saturday and let's go out
[36:33] and I just thought this is it this is it
[36:35] I'm done I'm done crying on Saturdays
[36:38] and yeah so that's a cost and with high
[36:43] functioning people you know it's hard to
[36:44] say that the cost will be your career
[36:47] because a lot of us high functioning
[36:48] people who are engaging in codependent
[36:50] relationships are over
[36:52] tolerance uh which I talk a lot about in
[36:55] the upcoming book over an for the sake
[36:58] of being spiritual um my career didn't
[37:02] suffer because I was in a difficult
[37:05] relationship I kept plowing but I suff
[37:10] right I really [ __ ] tired and I you
[37:14] can look at pictures of
[37:17] me um can you still hear me I I just hit
[37:20] my super loud and whatever you're doing
[37:23] St it can you hear can you hear me am I
[37:25] normal I can hear you just don't move
[37:27] your mic cuz is like scratching okay are
[37:30] we good yeah okay
[37:33] um we just plow we crank through and
[37:37] then we wake up and our adrenals are
[37:39] fried or we have a tumor or we've NE our
[37:44] dog is dying and we haven't really
[37:47] noticed and our other relationships are
[37:49] are suffering so y there's there are
[37:53] many costs and they are deep and they
[37:54] take a long time to heal from I think
[37:56] that one of the most important cost is
[37:59] not being
[38:01] known because you're trying to make that
[38:03] person know you and they're not giving
[38:05] any shits about it they're they're too
[38:07] busy in their own world and so or they
[38:10] don't have the capacity even if we took
[38:11] the judgmental vibe off that whole thing
[38:14] perhaps they're really incapable because
[38:17] of their own narcissism or self
[38:19] absorption whatever but that's a major
[38:22] cost because if you stay in a
[38:24] relationship where your true authentic
[38:26] self is being recognized and celebrated
[38:29] or even seen that it's easy to have it
[38:32] be completely lost even to
[38:37] you I'm so with you yeah okay
[38:41] um let's I have another question yeah go
[38:44] for it let's do this one because it's
[38:46] someone who's been in a relationship
[38:47] with someone who's been a friend for
[38:48] three years it's the brother of her
[38:50] friend who now the friend doesn't talk
[38:52] to her anymore and the guy is like
[38:54] saying he's not ready to be in a serious
[38:55] relationship and what I can say from all
[38:58] of this the sister's not talking to her
[39:00] anymore and she wants him to see that
[39:02] they're in a great and amazing
[39:03] relationship and I want her to see that
[39:06] I don't think they actually have a great
[39:07] and healthy relationship and he's in a
[39:11] relationship with you but he's hiding it
[39:12] from his family and his friends and what
[39:14] I actually care about is and you're
[39:17] afraid to tell him how you feel because
[39:18] you're afraid he's going to leave you is
[39:19] what you're saying and I want to know
[39:22] why why you want to be in a relationship
[39:25] with someone who you feel so afraid that
[39:27] even just telling him how you feel will
[39:29] make him go and what I really want you
[39:31] to do is ask the three empowered
[39:33] questions and you guys everybody
[39:35] listening these are three empowered cues
[39:37] that each one of you can take away and
[39:39] understand something about your
[39:41] repetition in these romantic experiences
[39:44] they're super easy I'm just going to hit
[39:46] them right now one who does this person
[39:48] remind me
[39:51] of two where have I felt like this
[39:55] before three why is this Dynamic
[39:59] familiar to
[40:00] me why is this Dynamic familiar to me
[40:05] yes so this can you give us an example
[40:07] of that why so that that has a lot of
[40:09] layers in it why is this Dynamic
[40:11] familiar to me sure I'll just give you
[40:13] an example out of my own life which is
[40:15] when I thought I was I I wanted to not
[40:17] be with men who were like my father so I
[40:20] was always attracted to these very
[40:21] European men who were very affectionate
[40:23] and passionate and not wasby golf
[40:26] playing Brooks brother suit wear in Wall
[40:28] Street Journal reading white dudes like
[40:30] my dad who were like emotional IQ of a
[40:32] rock so I really wanted someone who had
[40:34] a emotional IQ and could oh and so I was
[40:37] like I am I am just I'm doing the
[40:38] opposite of my father I'm I'm dating
[40:41] guys nothing like him oh except they all
[40:43] lived on another
[40:45] continent
[40:47] right yeah so what's the setup there
[40:50] longing separation unavailable and they
[40:53] were
[40:54] ultimately exactly like my father which
[40:57] is available and so again we can think
[41:00] consciously like hey I'm so not doing
[41:02] this same thing but you actually are if
[41:05] you're still not getting what you want
[41:08] part of your unconscious repetition is
[41:10] still in place somewhere because when it
[41:13] isn't when it's all
[41:15] unstuck things will start to fall into
[41:17] place with ease and grace these
[41:19] meaningful coincidences and synchrot
[41:21] Astic happenings and listen I'm not
[41:23] saying it's magic because my tagline is
[41:25] it's not magic it's psychology that's
[41:28] the
[41:28] truth but it does shift when you when
[41:31] this un UMC conscious material gets up
[41:34] and
[41:35] out okay let's do another question sure
[41:38] what's one of your hot ones all right
[41:41] how do you know when it's time to move
[41:43] on or to hang in a little bit longer and
[41:45] try a bit more yeah oh my God so I was I
[41:50] know 10 people in my life right now who
[41:52] are they're on the edge of their seat go
[41:54] chair how do you know when to call it
[41:56] quits well because here this really
[41:58] depends on why you're
[42:01] questioning whether you should stay or
[42:03] you should go are these things right
[42:05] good relationships are wor but they're
[42:06] worth it right if there's the potential
[42:08] to grow together if the person is
[42:09] willing if you're doing those things but
[42:12] it's not great yet but there's that
[42:13] willingness and that openness if you
[42:16] basically know down deep in your heart
[42:19] that this guy could be great but it's
[42:21] just not your guy because you're not in
[42:23] love with him or you don't really want
[42:24] to make out with him or whatever the
[42:25] reasons are that you know and what I
[42:28] find that
[42:29] confusion is a code word in so for so
[42:34] many women because we are such
[42:36] empaths that we can see what's so great
[42:38] about them like they're so loving and
[42:40] awesome but I'm so torn so if you feel
[42:43] yourself saying this I have to honestly
[42:46] say that I think that you
[42:48] know that you need to make a move and
[42:52] maybe you're afraid to do it because you
[42:53] don't know how or maybe you're afraid to
[42:55] do it because you feel like you won't
[42:56] find anyone better or who will love you
[42:59] as much but how you feel matters and
[43:01] when it's just you and you and you're
[43:03] looking in the mirror I promise you you
[43:06] actually know the truth about what you
[43:09] should do even asking that question
[43:12] right Jennifer you're asking that
[43:13] question which makes me think that you
[43:15] know it's time to move on but that you
[43:18] you almost feel like you need to be
[43:20] justified like the person needs to cheat
[43:22] on you or punch you in the head or do
[43:24] something terrible and you don't need to
[43:26] your feelings are really a good enough
[43:29] reason to do
[43:31] anything ah so many good ones in there
[43:34] confusion is a code word your confusion
[43:37] your your feelings are a good enough
[43:38] reason to do anything really yeah within
[43:42] moral
[43:43] balance
[43:45] yes um give me one more question we
[43:47] might go back to questions but I want to
[43:49] I want to give you a rapid what's
[43:50] another juicy one all right hold on
[43:53] juicy one and this one I don't know this
[43:56] one is from Australia and she's
[43:58] basically was telling me this whole
[43:59] thing about how there's no good men in
[44:00] Australia all of Australia the whole of
[44:02] Australia no good men and that she you
[44:05] know has nothing to lose she was psych
[44:06] that she got the email from you and was
[44:07] like well at this point nothing's
[44:09] happening I got nothing to lose I'm just
[44:10] going to see what they did so I don't
[44:12] believe this person um anyway I say this
[44:14] I say um I don't know about if there are
[44:17] no good men in Australia conclusively
[44:19] like I can't say that but I can say that
[44:22] you looking into your own frustration
[44:25] and how you're feeling and what's going
[44:27] on and maybe the Tinder and right left
[44:29] swipe stuff isn't for you but I promise
[44:31] you if you ask yourself those three
[44:34] empowered questions about the PE the
[44:35] last few people you dated right who do
[44:37] they remind me of where have I felt like
[44:39] this before and why is this Dynamic
[44:41] familiar to me you will something will
[44:43] be revealed and that there's also
[44:45] something about your parents
[44:47] relationship the home that you grew up
[44:49] in just start looking at that and
[44:51] writing down and they'll be we we'll
[44:53] send people like questions and things
[44:55] that we workbooks that we can send for
[44:56] them to
[44:58] SEC sorry other questions are coming
[45:02] in
[45:04] yeah that was a really good one thanks
[45:06] for putting it out because we had so
[45:07] many they were not in there um anyway so
[45:09] that's for the lady in Australia this
[45:12] this question this person was just
[45:13] doubling off of what we were just saying
[45:16] about so a lot of self-awareness from
[45:18] childhood relies on memories which is so
[45:21] true so how do you deal with that if the
[45:23] person has very little memory of
[45:24] childhood especially the times that they
[45:26] were wounded because this a way that
[45:28] your mind so you whoever wrote in I
[45:29] imagine that you had something dramatic
[45:31] or traumatic happen in your childhood
[45:34] here's the thing the way that you feel
[45:37] first of all will tell you something
[45:39] your body the wisdom of your body you'll
[45:41] start you the things you react to when
[45:44] someone raises their voice or something
[45:45] happens that's telling you that there's
[45:47] this unresolved thing in there you know
[45:51] and that's one thing and I also promise
[45:54] you that if you do this very slowly that
[45:57] if you just gently one little Step at a
[45:59] Time start going backwards everything
[46:02] that you need to know will be revealed
[46:06] to you very gently so I don't believe in
[46:08] this like super repressed thing where
[46:11] we're trying to force something out if
[46:13] you are doing it in the right way which
[46:15] is slowly just one memory at a time and
[46:18] writing things down I promise you things
[46:21] will be revealed but it must be in a
[46:22] safe container which is part of why your
[46:25] mind doesn't want you to remember
[46:27] because your little kid is
[46:31] afraid your mind doesn't want you to
[46:33] remember because your little kid is
[46:35] afraid too scary yes yeah yeah inner
[46:39] child you cannot get away from her or
[46:41] him I have tried I have tried dozens of
[46:45] therapy sessions please let's not go
[46:47] there but it's real stuff it's real real
[46:51] yeah yeah okay um Let me throw some uh
[46:54] Concepts to you okay mhm
[46:59] um first of all I think we just in uh
[47:01] cultural sensitivity need to address
[47:04] this is not necessarily gender specific
[47:07] we're using the term woman if however
[47:09] you identify if you are predominantly
[47:12] masculine predominantly feminine no
[47:14] matter what your gender is this is all
[47:16] applicable so love to everybody's
[47:19] choices um but I'm going to continue to
[47:22] use just really conventional language on
[47:25] so T um
[47:28] do I have to give my man space um do I
[47:31] have to make my man feel like a [ __ ]
[47:34] hero so that I get what I want because
[47:38] this is a lot of uh you
[47:42] know
[47:43] Liberation mentality I get that I'm
[47:46] hearing this a lot what do you think of
[47:48] that I don't think so I think that there
[47:52] are people who can who can find that and
[47:54] that it works for them right A lot of it
[47:56] depends on your attachment style have
[47:59] you heard of this phrase attachment
[48:01] style attachment Style no so this is
[48:04] actually very common I've heard of
[48:06] attachment parenting I'm attachment
[48:09] parent yes exactly similar but different
[48:12] but when you know you're attachment
[48:13] style which I also teach all about this
[48:15] which is you know there's there's three
[48:16] main attachment Styles people who are
[48:18] securely attached which means that you
[48:20] are pretty good with intimacy you can
[48:22] express yourself you can hear your
[48:24] partner's feelings it makes you feel
[48:26] good to be attached to other people you
[48:27] can create long-term meaningful
[48:30] relationships and it seems to work that
[48:32] way then you have people who are
[48:33] anxiously attached these are people who
[48:35] are more codependent people who are more
[48:38] interested in what their partner is
[48:39] doing and kind of maybe snooping on
[48:42] their phone and worried that they're
[48:43] going to leave them and feels that they
[48:46] want more um closeness than their
[48:49] partner wants so that's someone who's
[48:50] anxiously attached um and of course the
[48:53] securely attached people just because
[48:55] you're securely attached it doesn't mean
[48:56] that you own attract secure
[48:58] relationships because securely attached
[49:01] people have a very calming effect on the
[49:03] less securely attached people so that's
[49:07] why we end up with you know being
[49:08] codependents and blah blah blah so you
[49:10] have the anxiously attached and then you
[49:11] have the avoidantly attached and these
[49:14] people um really want intimacy and
[49:17] connection but when it starts happening
[49:20] they feel suffocated so therefore these
[49:22] right and left swipe dating apps are
[49:25] kind of perfect because the short-term
[49:27] relationship is their specialty and you
[49:30] will find unfortunately for the
[49:31] anxiously attached people it's good for
[49:34] them when they can attach themselves to
[49:36] a securely attached person right someone
[49:38] who's solid who calms them but a lot of
[49:40] the time they find themselves drawn to
[49:43] avoidance which of course is like a
[49:44] terrible combination I'm anxious and
[49:46] you're stepping away and that just makes
[49:48] me want to step forward more you know so
[49:50] anyway back to I wanted to throw that in
[49:54] was probably too fast but makes sense
[49:56] you get it didn't I yeah got it back to
[49:59] the space thing quickly is that I think
[50:04] that a lot of that is about being um
[50:07] inauthentic yes right yes my my my
[50:12] feeling about this is just like you know
[50:14] what you can't don't muster it up and
[50:18] tell your man oh baby baby baby a h you
[50:22] know you such a hero if you're not
[50:24] feeling it it's so [ __ ] manipul
[50:28] just fall in love with someone who is
[50:31] heroic in your perspective you respect
[50:33] them so much they they are doing heroic
[50:36] things in your view otherwise it's it's
[50:41] a game I'm not interested in the game
[50:44] yep I agree and I don't feel like it's
[50:46] necessary and yet for some people I'm
[50:48] not saying that it can't work if you're
[50:50] in that situation and there's a give a
[50:52] give take give and take of and take of
[50:54] some like a hero but he's is actually
[50:57] doing those things you know I just don't
[50:59] like it as a ploy to keep someone happy
[51:03] or manage your man like when you're man
[51:06] is a
[51:08] project you're not really that to me
[51:10] that's not the real Love Revolution
[51:12] that's like
[51:13] 1955 so what is the Real Love Revolution
[51:17] what does it look like what is it what
[51:18] do what do relationships look like in
[51:20] that in that new frontier that sacred
[51:23] that new frontier well it really I mean
[51:26] really starts with participants learning
[51:30] to fall madly and deeply in love with
[51:31] themselves in a real way and in an
[51:34] actionable way in all ways so that's in
[51:37] all relationships so this is a course
[51:39] right that talking about it but it's has
[51:42] to do with your relationships with
[51:44] friends you really do a massive
[51:46] inventory of your entire life because so
[51:48] much of the time we have people in our
[51:50] life in our inner circles who don't need
[51:53] to be there who are not helping us who
[51:58] are making us feel worse who are judging
[52:00] the crap out of us like that's not
[52:02] friendship you know and yet that's
[52:04] repeating something too so these
[52:06] downloaded blueprints are valuable to
[52:09] understand what they are in all of your
[52:11] relationships because if you had a super
[52:13] judgmental mom and you just find that
[52:15] all your friends are judgmental as F
[52:19] then you're like oh look I'm just
[52:21] calling in my mom over and over again in
[52:23] my friendships and you don't need to do
[52:25] that but it's a loving thing to do
[52:27] to really be Discerning about who gets
[52:29] the privilege of being in your inner
[52:34] circle and when you do all of this work
[52:36] which is small steps along the way of
[52:38] this 10we thing that I've created in the
[52:42] end it's like it's like imagine that
[52:45] you're a lighthouse and all the years of
[52:48] misinformation and depressing
[52:50] relationships and disappointments are
[52:53] like and all of a sudden it's like your
[52:56] love like get super dim so you don't
[52:58] even know where it's at when we go
[53:00] through this process in this very uh
[53:03] systematic way we're just one layer of
[53:06] soot and crap and muck and
[53:08] misinformation at at a time taking it
[53:10] off so in the end it's like your love
[53:13] light becomes so bright whether you're
[53:16] in a relationship or single either
[53:18] you're infusing that light into your
[53:21] relationship or you become so bright
[53:24] that you're like this Lighthouse that
[53:25] the same way the ship can find it right
[53:29] in the lighthouse it's happy to find it
[53:30] your beloved can find you instead of you
[53:33] feeling like you would you know that you
[53:36] have to twist yourself up in a pretzel
[53:38] to get there because Danielle you know
[53:40] this to be true that if
[53:43] information were all we needed for
[53:46] transformation everyone on this call
[53:49] would actually be happily married with
[53:52] their perfect yoga butt eating their
[53:53] steamed Cal in their house in the
[53:55] Hampton's looking at their family photos
[53:57] smiling yeah but what do we need we need
[54:01] integration we need integration can we
[54:03] talk about the hard work for a second
[54:05] sure
[54:07] so you know I'm hearing all all of the
[54:11] the the layers like you don't just jump
[54:13] from what's the first out of the five
[54:15] steps self-awareness you don't just go
[54:18] from self-awareness to self-love you got
[54:20] it there's a there's a graduation right
[54:22] you can't skip the steps yeah and
[54:29] I just want to get really real about how
[54:31] hard this work is for all of us and how
[54:35] worth it it is worth it and my my
[54:41] learning uh has been around time in all
[54:44] of this and going through those steps
[54:47] and the more attached I get to how soon
[54:51] things happen to like when the due date
[54:54] is on my vision board on why hasn't
[54:57] happened yet oh God I just suffer more
[55:00] if I'm just if I just get into like I am
[55:03] doing my work and it feels so good I am
[55:07] I'm eating clean I'm having honest
[55:10] conversations I'm bringing my whole
[55:13] honest self to my career and my
[55:17] creativity I'm a present Mom I'm a good
[55:20] friend I can do that and if I
[55:23] go that relationship or that oh or that
[55:26] awareness or it just don't you know I
[55:31] just wrote about this recently holding
[55:33] out is the most underrated spiritual
[55:37] practice there is and holding out runs
[55:41] through all five of those
[55:43] steps not holding out I think you have
[55:46] to go almost back to step one so just
[55:48] like love yourself enough to hold out
[55:52] for quality and to give your space to to
[55:56] get
[55:57] not qualified yourself but to raise your
[56:00] own frequency so you can really be of
[56:02] service to the world yeah it's it's
[56:04] worth the weight yeah you're worth the
[56:07] weight you know yeah so if if you say
[56:10] for yourself that the the you get the
[56:13] self-awareness down all of these things
[56:15] just naturally sort of flow into the
[56:18] next and although like you said we want
[56:20] to skip it you can't self-awareness it
[56:23] leads to self- knowledge leads to
[56:25] self-acceptance because can you possibly
[56:27] change anything from a place of denial
[56:30] or like the fake memory drawer which we
[56:32] all have one of those like it was great
[56:36] except it actually wasn't and we're
[56:38] never looking at that and the healing
[56:40] comes from the shitty drawer do you know
[56:42] I mean that's the one we need to to
[56:43] figure out so self-acceptance is huge
[56:46] and that self-compassion all of the
[56:48] perfectionist women watching this don't
[56:51] have
[56:52] self-compassion because they're too busy
[56:54] focused on the 2% of the thing that
[56:56] wasn't perfect
[56:57] perfect and that's a huge one before you
[57:00] move into self-love which is a practice
[57:03] self- Lov is not a destination this is
[57:05] like a way of life the same way that you
[57:08] don't expect to get the ass of your
[57:10] dreams by going to the gym once right
[57:12] right we know we got to keep going to
[57:15] yoga if we want a yoga
[57:16] but okay
[57:20] um let's try let's do a few more just
[57:23] rapid fire relationship questions and
[57:26] really
[57:29] um you want me to hit for my thing or
[57:32] you got him okay oh I got it I'm 40
[57:33] years old and still single the divorce
[57:35] of my parents was very hurtful 30 years
[57:37] ago how can I overcome my fear of
[57:38] intimacy and find a man who loves me is
[57:41] that it got it how can I overcome my
[57:43] Feeny okay well you I mean you know what
[57:46] I'm gonna say I'm gonna say you have to
[57:47] unpack and this is Malika who sent it in
[57:50] um you have to unpack what happened for
[57:52] young Malika during your parents divorce
[57:55] and what part of you is feeling guilty
[57:58] about wanting it to be better than it
[58:00] was for them because I think a lot of us
[58:02] underachieve in this way because we're
[58:04] afraid if I have a happy marriage and my
[58:07] parents didn't will they abandon me will
[58:09] I lose their love will I lose their
[58:11] affection if I out same thing with out
[58:13] earning our parents out succeeding our
[58:16] parents and most healthy parents are
[58:18] super psyched for you to do all of the
[58:19] above but the little kid who's the one
[58:21] who's afraid to be abandoned inside
[58:24] unconsciously is like maybe I'll just
[58:26] keep struggling so that I don't lose my
[58:28] parents' love okay so I would say I'd
[58:30] love you to unpack that Terry Cole is
[58:32] casual sex ever okay when question mark
[58:37] you know hey ma'am that's so super
[58:38] personal I I would look inside and say
[58:43] why sometimes a girl needs to get laid
[58:45] and that would be casual sex maybe some
[58:47] women never want to have casual sex
[58:49] because it depends on what sex means to
[58:52] you as our friend Chris Carr would say
[58:55] you know respect your godpa
[58:57] and if you can have casual sex or want
[58:59] to have casual sex and feel empowered
[59:02] and
[59:03] respected go for it but the fact that
[59:05] you ask the question makes me think that
[59:10] you probably don't want to so maybe
[59:13] no if I answer that right because really
[59:16] that that's only only you can answer
[59:17] that but I think it's an interesting
[59:22] question what boundaries do you set up
[59:24] for compromising
[59:27] what healthy
[59:28] compromises it's a really good question
[59:30] part of it is you have to learn to
[59:32] communicate effectively and
[59:34] compassionately that's the first because
[59:36] there's no compromise if you don't have
[59:39] the language of actual communication
[59:41] loving communication where you're using
[59:43] eye statements and I don't mean being
[59:45] completely corny I just mean honestly
[59:47] you it can't be the language of blame
[59:49] because there will be no compromise if
[59:51] you say you always if you would just not
[59:55] right right there you're already not
[59:57] there's no compromise so the first step
[59:59] in that is learning to communicate you
[1:00:01] could do AO therapy you can buy a book
[1:00:03] by Harville hendrickx you can take my
[1:00:06] course there there are many ways that
[1:00:07] you can learn how to effectively
[1:00:09] communicate but that's always the first
[1:00:11] step
[1:00:13] and both of you having like the vision
[1:00:16] of what is fair because I find in
[1:00:18] couples you have to have a couple's
[1:00:19] vision of what is fair because if not
[1:00:24] one person will always be doing more
[1:00:26] than the other and feeling less loved or
[1:00:28] less taken care of than the
[1:00:34] other so juicy
[1:00:40] um let's address you you wanted to
[1:00:43] address this uh question from the woman
[1:00:44] who's living in the war zone so she
[1:00:47] lives uh in an International xat
[1:00:49] Community in a war zone a complex crisis
[1:00:52] situation and she finds herself
[1:00:54] surrounded by flaky a a boys so Aid boys
[1:00:57] being the kind of that's like
[1:01:00] professional role yeah um often with
[1:01:03] girlfriends or complex relationships in
[1:01:06] other countries so the dudes often have
[1:01:07] girlfriends for complex relationships in
[1:01:10] other
[1:01:13] countries um let me just let me just cap
[1:01:16] it so
[1:01:19] yeah how does one manage love in a war
[1:01:22] zone that's that's the last line of that
[1:01:24] well I likened it to love in a Broadway
[1:01:27] show because I was a talent agent for
[1:01:29] years before he became a psychotherapist
[1:01:31] where the temporary nature of a war zone
[1:01:36] where everything is temporary everything
[1:01:38] is heightened it's very similar we would
[1:01:39] call them showmances back in the day
[1:01:41] people in a Broadway show and of course
[1:01:42] they're not they're nothing alike in
[1:01:44] respect to how dangerous it is but I
[1:01:46] think that there's no normal in a war
[1:01:49] zone and that a lot of things happen in
[1:01:52] extremely heightened crisis situations
[1:01:55] that wouldn't happen if you were on the
[1:01:56] regular 9 to-5 grind so if that is your
[1:02:01] normal and you're going to stay there
[1:02:03] maybe socialized with the local people
[1:02:06] and you know fall in love with a Syrian
[1:02:08] dude because maybe that you know what I
[1:02:11] mean like the aid boys I don't see that
[1:02:12] changing because again it's temporary
[1:02:14] people are coming for a three- month
[1:02:16] stint and then they're out and many of
[1:02:18] them are leaving long-term relationships
[1:02:19] to come and do this good work so I think
[1:02:22] that for you look at the be realistic
[1:02:25] and then look at your own blueprint of
[1:02:27] why um are you being drawn to people in
[1:02:31] this temporary situation and perhaps you
[1:02:33] Mama for doing that work because
[1:02:35] somebody's got to and thank God someone
[1:02:36] is so we appreciate it but look in and
[1:02:38] see is the temporary nature of Love
[1:02:40] Somehow does that resonate with your
[1:02:42] past there's a great movie with Tina Fay
[1:02:46] um where she's in that exact situation I
[1:02:48] forget the name of it it came out like
[1:02:49] in the last two years yeah yeah totally
[1:02:52] I can't remember either but I know it it
[1:02:54] was it was a great film um
[1:02:56] well let's let's wrap with this so Terry
[1:03:00] why is love about psychology and not
[1:03:04] magic I
[1:03:06] myself I'm not even prone to magical
[1:03:08] thinking it's the only way I think is
[1:03:11] magically so when I heard psychology I
[1:03:13] was like a downer on the love bunny so
[1:03:17] tell me tell me
[1:03:19] why listen here's the thing I'm not
[1:03:22] saying love can't feel magical but I'm
[1:03:25] saying attracting and sustaining Real
[1:03:29] Love is psychological because it is the
[1:03:33] unresolved psychological thing so much
[1:03:34] of the time that is getting in the way
[1:03:38] of you energetically and emotionally
[1:03:41] attracting the person who would be your
[1:03:44] your real you know your plus one for
[1:03:46] Life your partner in crime whatever you
[1:03:47] want to call it and so why that's
[1:03:50] awesome news is that we don't have a lot
[1:03:53] of power over magic besides creating our
[1:03:55] own but we have all the power over our
[1:03:58] own mental health and over becoming an
[1:04:00] expert on why we are the way we are
[1:04:04] sometimes you just need a great guide or
[1:04:06] someone to give you the empowered
[1:04:08] questions nobody has the answers but you
[1:04:10] right this is not there is no Love Guru
[1:04:14] I'm Not A Love Guru but I am probably
[1:04:17] the best Catalyst you will ever find in
[1:04:18] your entire life for you to be your own
[1:04:21] Love
[1:04:25] Guru Terry you are solid gold um what's
[1:04:29] the what's the business we need to take
[1:04:31] care of now tell me when Real Love
[1:04:33] Revolution on I made notes before um so
[1:04:37] first of all I'm G to tell everybody I'm
[1:04:39] taking the Real Love Revolution course
[1:04:43] because part of my um my declaration for
[1:04:47] 2017 is I I want to study a few things
[1:04:51] so this is a great study track uh this
[1:04:55] weekend first of all today is a new moon
[1:04:57] so it's a beautiful day to like
[1:04:59] entertain beginnings and it's Chinese
[1:05:01] New Year this weekend and I actually
[1:05:03] identify more with the Lunar New Year
[1:05:05] than January 1 and so this is in sync
[1:05:08] with spring for me
[1:05:10] and I got a therapist I've got you I
[1:05:14] have lots of enlightened enlightening
[1:05:17] friends and I just need to do something
[1:05:20] that's just like quiet and still and
[1:05:24] focused and I want a regular
[1:05:27] barrage of questions and that's why I'm
[1:05:31] doing this so H it starts Real Love
[1:05:33] Revolution starts Wednesday February 1st
[1:05:36] it's 10 weeks that means 10 modules
[1:05:39] every week you get a live weekly call
[1:05:43] yeah yes and here's what excited me most
[1:05:46] about this and you and I need to talk
[1:05:48] about this like in terms of business and
[1:05:50] collaborating um therapeutically based
[1:05:54] meditations so somebody asked me a
[1:05:56] couple weeks ago it was like a potential
[1:05:59] business opportunity to do some
[1:06:00] meditations and I'm like look I am not a
[1:06:02] meditation teacher and you actually need
[1:06:05] to do your homework in terms of um
[1:06:08] literal Sonic resonance and different
[1:06:11] music and vibrations that create
[1:06:13] different reactions in the brain when
[1:06:15] you're really messing with and getting
[1:06:17] inside someone's mind and particular
[1:06:20] words and relationships and all of that
[1:06:23] so Terry is versed in this she's done
[1:06:25] her homework in this and how do you
[1:06:29] what's your terminology around the
[1:06:31] meditations that the Real Love
[1:06:33] Revolution course has what do you call
[1:06:34] them well they they are therapeutic
[1:06:37] meditations actually yeah so what we're
[1:06:40] doing is we are hitting the unconscious
[1:06:43] mind and and planting all of this
[1:06:46] possibility and openness like I I know
[1:06:50] what will come up during each each week
[1:06:52] of this course inside people like I know
[1:06:56] the resistance is I know from doing this
[1:06:58] for 20 years with so many women what
[1:07:00] happens and So speaking to those things
[1:07:04] so that your unconscious mind isn't sort
[1:07:07] of getting in the way of all of the
[1:07:08] conscious work that you're doing is that
[1:07:10] we're laying down this expansion this
[1:07:14] possibility and we want to change what
[1:07:16] is in the unconscious mind so we
[1:07:19] actively do it by bringing the material
[1:07:21] up with all the empowered questions and
[1:07:22] the PDFs and the conversations that
[1:07:25] there's so many other bonuses like that
[1:07:26] I just kept adding things you like I
[1:07:29] kept thinking like oh we need to hit the
[1:07:31] perfectionism that's a bonus we need to
[1:07:32] hit so many different things but this
[1:07:35] was something that I'd wanted to do for
[1:07:37] a really long time because I knew
[1:07:40] because I'm a past life regressionist
[1:07:42] and there's a certain way that when
[1:07:44] you're working with people it's like a
[1:07:46] slow induction it's called that really
[1:07:49] takes the defensive part of your mind
[1:07:52] and lets it just rest so that's part of
[1:07:55] the Lang language that we put in so that
[1:07:58] we're inspiring you consciously and
[1:08:00] unconsciously to be prepared for the
[1:08:02] change right to as you were saying like
[1:08:05] it doesn't just happen magically there
[1:08:07] are there are um consequences and you
[1:08:12] change and then other people notice the
[1:08:14] change and they feel threatened and
[1:08:16] you'll have things happening in your
[1:08:17] life and so these are ways that you can
[1:08:19] keep this um internal Stillness and
[1:08:22] silence and a solid sense of what you're
[1:08:25] doing like this is a gift that you're
[1:08:27] giving yourself so I'm really really
[1:08:29] excited about the therapeutic
[1:08:32] meditations oh okay well
[1:08:35] to real love to enough people um
[1:08:40] becoming that real love that it becomes
[1:08:42] a
[1:08:43] revolution yes wait wait don't don't
[1:08:45] hold one sec I want to give you one more
[1:08:46] opportunity before you go that we're
[1:08:49] doing we're I'm doing two live master
[1:08:53] classes where all these questions can
[1:08:54] actually get answered live
[1:08:56] next um Monday so anyway this in the
[1:08:59] thank you you guys will get this but I'm
[1:09:01] doing question everybody sent in yeah as
[1:09:04] long as they get if if they are on the
[1:09:05] calls we're doing master classes for
[1:09:08] single women single women and women in
[1:09:10] relationships we're doing separate live
[1:09:13] master classes to dive deeper into this
[1:09:16] material so you'll get that in your
[1:09:18] thank you emails from this I just wanted
[1:09:20] to tell you that because I just want to
[1:09:22] we're just giving it we're just giving
[1:09:23] it and then if you want to join the
[1:09:25] course that would be great I love it but
[1:09:27] if not you will get value anyway
[1:09:30] commitment I love it I love it okay love
[1:09:33] so love and thank you everybody for
[1:09:35] being here
[1:09:37] and to the magic to the psychology to
[1:09:40] doing the work to holding out to a real
[1:09:43] Love Revolution we need it great
[1:09:46] Mama I love you thank
[1:09:48] you don't go
[1:09:51] away you stopping it effectively good
[1:09:54] okay goodbye just want to make sure
[1:09:55] don't erase it are we off there I don't
[1:09:58] know are we off there no hold on hold on
[1:10:01] because I want to talk to
[1:10:02] you we could have just kept
[1:10:05] going
