Financial Anxiety and Deeper Fear: Finding Trust Beyond Money

Peter Crone
Peter Crone

10 min read

In this episode of the Finding Freedom Podcast, Peter Crone works with Paul, who struggles with financial anxiety and cycles of intense motivation followed by complete withdrawal. Paul's surface concern—building wealth—masks deeper psychological patterns rooted in childhood: an absent, unpredictable father; a dependent relationship with his mother; and trauma from witnessing a close friend's suicide at age 22. Rather than offering practical financial advice, Crone directs Paul to examine how he unconsciously carries the weight of saving both his mother and his deceased friend, creating an impossible internal burden that sabotages his efforts. The conversation explores how financial anxiety is actually about control, trust, and the false belief that he can prevent catastrophe through sheer force of will. Freedom comes not from mastering finances but from releasing the misplaced responsibility he's been carrying.

What Drives Financial Anxiety Beneath Conscious Awareness?

Paul arrives at the podcast describing a paradox: he pushes hard on the accelerator while simultaneously pressing the brake. He makes intensive effort—creating content daily for months—then completely disconnects and wants to do nothing but "watch football." This cycling pattern has persisted despite consuming countless courses and reading books on marketing and business fundamentals. He knows intellectually what to do, yet something deeper prevents sustained action.

Peter immediately recognizes that the problem is not a lack of intelligence or practical knowledge. Instead, he identifies a disconnect between conscious awareness and physical embodiment. The body is not aligned with the mind's intentions. This misalignment doesn't respond to more information or willpower; it requires understanding the subconscious patterns driving the behavior.

Paul identifies the surface issue as financial abundance. He feels weighed down by the pressure to make the right financial decisions, fearing that one mistake could cost him everything. But Crone redirects the conversation away from practical finance toward the deeper fear shaping Paul's relationship with money and effort.

How Do Childhood Patterns Create Financial Pressure?

When Crone asks Paul about his early life, a clearer picture emerges. Paul was the middle child, deeply attached to his mother—so attached that on his first day of school, he remembers "balling my eyes out" while watching her leave. His father, by contrast, was largely absent, spending time in the pub and returning home late. Paul recalls sitting on the sofa as a family, gripped by fear and uncertainty about how his father would behave when he arrived and how much he'd had to drink. Though there was no physical violence, the unpredictability created a lasting imprint of dread.

Paul hasn't seen or spoken to his father in 15 years. He doesn't harbor active resentment—he wishes his father well—but the subconscious imprint remains. The pattern installed in childhood is that the world is unpredictable and potentially threatening, and safety depends on one's own vigilance and control.

This childhood setup becomes foundational to understanding Paul's financial anxiety. He learned early that he could not rely on his father's stability. He could not trust the environment. His survival, in psychological terms, depended on his own efforts to maintain safety. This template gets carried forward into adulthood, where financial decisions feel life-or-death because on some level, they still do—not rationally, but in the nervous system.

What Weight Is Paul Carrying Beyond His Own Life?

The conversation takes a sharp turn when Paul mentions his motivation to build wealth: he wants to give his mother an amazing retirement. She's now in her seventies, and he feels a deep drive to secure her financial future. He also references a trauma that shapes much of his internal world.

In 2010, at age 22, Paul witnessed his close friend Matt's suicide. He was at a party near clifftops in Cornwall when he saw Matt fighting with someone and getting kicked out by security. Matt had recently broken up with his girlfriend and was in a dark place mentally. Paul's instinct was to follow him, to make sure he was okay. He ran after Matt through brambled bushes, found him at the cliff's edge, and tried to talk him down. Matt, in tears, said: "Paul, I love you. It's not your fault. Tell my friends and family it's not their fault. I can't go on anymore." Then he jumped.

Paul was 22 years old and witnessed the death of someone he cared about. In that moment, time froze. It felt unreal, like a movie. The trauma of witnessing suicide—of being unable to prevent it despite his attempts—left a permanent mark on his psyche.

From that point forward, Paul made a private vow: I'm going to make the most of my life and live your life as well. He felt that because he was there and couldn't stop it, he now had to somehow compensate. He would live twice—his life and Matt's. He would make it matter. He would succeed where Matt could not.

Crone connects these threads: Paul is not just building wealth for himself. He is unconsciously trying to save his mother (replacing the protection his father never provided). He is trying to honor his dead friend by succeeding at life itself. He is carrying the weight of two other people's existences on his shoulders. This is the real burden. No amount of financial gain will satisfy this because the goal was never truly about money—it was about preventing loss, proving worthiness, and controlling outcomes that are fundamentally uncontrollable.

How Does the Need to Control Create the Brake Pedal?

Crone presents a reframe that cuts to the core issue. Paul is "acting like this individual guy who's trying to save the whole planet, by himself." The task is impossible. The responsibility is not actually his. And the nervous system knows this, which is why it introduces the brake.

The cycles of intense action followed by complete shutdown are not random or laziness. They are a symptom of an impossible internal mandate. Paul accelerates because he feels obligated to save his mother, honor his friend, prove he's not like his absent father. But the deeper self knows this task cannot be completed, so it applies the brake, shutting everything down to protect itself from the futility of trying.

Crone invites Paul to consider a radical alternative: "Your life is curated, orchestrated precisely for what you need. So you can just lighten up and relax. You can't fuck it up." This is not permission to be lazy. It is permission to stop carrying a weight that was never his to carry.

The financial anxiety is not about markets, mistakes, or money management. It is about the belief that Paul must control outcomes to prevent catastrophe—his mother's insecurity, his friend's death, his own unworthiness. As long as he operates from this premise, no financial achievement will bring relief because the real fear is not about poverty but about failing to prevent loss.

What Is the Relationship Between Effort and Surrender?

Crone explores with Paul the difference between aspiration driven by inspiration and aspiration driven by desperation. Paul's drive to succeed is rooted not in genuine inspiration but in the need to prove something, to prevent something, to manage something. This creates a particular energetic quality—not expansion but contraction. It's the energy of someone bracing against a threat.

When Paul tries to force change through willpower and effort, he is still operating from the same nervous system state that created the problem. He is still in the posture of someone who must control outcomes. More effort doesn't solve this; it reinforces it.

Crone suggests that true abundance is not something Paul achieves through harder work. It is something he allows by releasing the false belief that he must orchestrate it. "Now you co-create," Crone says, pointing to a shift from solo effort to partnership with circumstances. When Paul stops trying to force his life into a shape that proves his worth or prevents loss, he becomes available to opportunities and possibilities that arise naturally.

This doesn't mean Paul should stop working or planning. It means he should work and plan from a different internal location—one of trust rather than fear, one of genuine interest rather than desperation, one of co-creation rather than solo control.

How Can Someone Release an Inherited Burden?

Crone acknowledges the depth of what Paul has carried: the early template of an unpredictable father, the lifelong drive to be the stable one, the shock of witnessing suicide, the vow to live for two people. These are not surface issues resolved by positive thinking or technique.

He directs Paul to look at what he's actually attempting to control and why. The financial decisions Paul worries about—Can I afford this? Will I lose everything?—are proxies for deeper questions: Can I prevent my mother's suffering? Can I make my friend's death mean something by succeeding? Can I be the opposite of my father?

The work is not to become a better financial planner but to see clearly what emotional and existential weight is being projected onto money. Once seen, that weight can be set down. It was never Paul's responsibility to carry it in the first place. His mother is an adult; his father's absence is not his fault; his friend's death is tragic and not his burden to compensate for by living twice.

Crone offers a practical approach: Paul should examine his actual life circumstances—his health, his sleep, his relationships, the practices that genuinely nourish him—and work from there. He has a healthy romantic relationship of three years, the best he's had. This is real ground. From this ground, efforts naturally flow without the desperate quality that creates the braking mechanism.

What Does Trust in Life Actually Look Like?

The conversation points toward a shift from control to trust. Paul has been operating as though life is a problem he must solve through force of will. Crone suggests that life is something that happens through him, not something he must make happen.

This is not fatalism or passivity. It is a recognition that abundance, opportunity, and growth arise in the context of relaxation, openness, and genuine interest—not in the context of desperation and bracing. When Paul stops trying to prevent catastrophe and releases the false responsibility he's been carrying, his actual gifts and interests can emerge. From that place, action flows naturally.

The practical homework Crone assigns is striking: "Don't do anything." Not permanently, but as a practice of learning to relax the grip. Most of what Paul does comes from a place of trying to prevent something or prove something. What would happen if he simply lived, worked from genuine interest, and allowed himself to be surprised by what unfolds?

Where to Go From Here

For anyone experiencing financial anxiety similar to Paul's, the core insight is this: examine what psychological or emotional weight you may be projecting onto money. Is there a parent you're trying to protect? A trauma you're trying to compensate for? A self-image you're trying to prove? Financial planning and practical knowledge are useful, but they address the surface. Real freedom comes from recognizing and releasing the impossible burdens you've been carrying.

Second, notice the cycles in your own effort. Do you accelerate and then brake? Do you pursue goals intensely and then withdraw? These patterns often signal that the goal is rooted not in genuine interest but in desperation or obligation. The way forward is not more discipline but honest inquiry into what you're actually trying to accomplish beneath the stated goal.

Finally, consider the possibility that your life is already curated for you—that you don't have to engineer everything through sheer force. This doesn't mean abandoning responsibility or effort. It means shifting from the energy of control and prevention to the energy of co-creation and trust. From that place, sustainable effort naturally arises, and financial decisions can be made from wisdom rather than fear.

[0:00] You're acting like this individual guy

[0:02] who's trying to save the whole planet,

[0:03] but by himself.

[0:05] >> Yeah.

[0:05] >> But what I want you to consider, which

[0:07] is such a leap for you, is that your

[0:09] life is curated, orchestrated precisely

[0:12] for what you need. So you can just

[0:13] lighten up and relax. You can't [ __ ] it

[0:15] up. Homework is don't do anything.

[0:18] >> Yeah.

[0:21] >> In 2010, I unfortunately saw one of my

[0:24] close friends jump off a cliff in front

[0:26] of me to end his life. For a while, I

[0:28] blame myself just thinking if I could

[0:30] have stopped that from happening. But

[0:31] the big problem that is happening in my

[0:33] life is finances. You know, I'm really

[0:36] struggling to get into that abundance

[0:38] state and really increase the wealth in

[0:40] my life. I've been watching so much of

[0:42] your stuff, so I I understand as well

[0:44] that that's the surface level, but of

[0:47] course um and I know that's available to

[0:49] me when some of the other stuff maybe

[0:51] blind spots or whatever is cleared up,

[0:53] but that is the area that I would like

[0:55] some assistance with. For sure.

[0:57] >> What would you say is one of your blind

[1:00] spots or one of your barriers to what

[1:02] you're calling abundance?

[1:05] >> Yes. So why I've got this insane like

[1:08] internal like desire to change to to

[1:11] improve my life and I have in many

[1:13] regards but I feel like I'm pushing one

[1:16] foot on the accelerator and one foot on

[1:17] the brake

[1:18] >> and I I procrastinate a lot. I avoid

[1:21] things a lot and I go through cycles of

[1:24] intense motivation and doing work. For

[1:26] example, with business and content, I

[1:28] might make videos every day for three

[1:30] months and then I'll just completely

[1:32] disconnect and I don't want to do

[1:34] anything. I just I kind of go through

[1:35] these cycles of a lot of energy and then

[1:39] I I just want to just chill out and like

[1:41] watch football or you know and then it

[1:43] kind of comes around again and I just

[1:45] feel like I keep repeating these cycles

[1:47] you know there's only only so many

[1:48] courses and books and different things

[1:50] you can take on marketing and practical

[1:53] stuff. There comes a time where like I

[1:55] need to look at myself like maybe

[1:56] there's a different problem here. So,

[1:58] um, and I definitely, you know, I've got

[2:02] just stuff from childhood and, you know,

[2:04] seeing one of my close friends commit

[2:05] suicide definitely was a turning point

[2:07] in my life. So,

[2:08] >> yeah, I remember that from your video.

[2:10] I'm sorry you went through that. Um,

[2:12] okay. Well, there's no lack of

[2:15] intelligence here, right? So, you're not

[2:17] um struggling there and it's sort of

[2:19] making that connection between conscious

[2:21] awareness and physical embodiment. So,

[2:24] what would you say from your past that

[2:25] you're aware of? Obviously, we can talk

[2:27] about your friend who took his life at

[2:29] some point, but let's go back further.

[2:32] >> What were some of the

[2:35] patterns, habits that you developed,

[2:38] do you think from, you know, being young

[2:39] and whatever you saw growing up or what

[2:41] have you heard as well?

[2:43] >> Yeah. So, when I was a kid, um, I'm the

[2:46] middle one. I've got two brothers. Um,

[2:49] and

[2:51] I mean, I I admit I was a I was a big

[2:53] mommy's boy when I was a kid. I was very

[2:55] attached to my mom and

[2:57] >> you know I even remember my first day in

[2:58] school I can have the image in my mind

[3:01] of looking out the window when my mom

[3:02] took me to school and I'm just balling

[3:04] my eyes out and there was this there was

[3:06] this really strong attachment to my mom

[3:09] >> and my dad was

[3:12] very absent. He spent a lot of the time

[3:14] in the pub and I remember him coming

[3:17] home late. Um, we would be sat down on

[3:20] the TV watching uh, sorry, sat down on

[3:23] on the sofa watching TV together as a

[3:24] family and I'd always have that kind of

[3:26] fear or uncertainty of

[3:29] >> how my dad was going to be when he came

[3:30] in or how much he'd had to drink.

[3:32] >> There was never any like physical

[3:34] violence or anything like that, but I

[3:35] remember feeling that uncertainty.

[3:38] >> Um, and I I really didn't like that

[3:40] feeling.

[3:41] >> So, those are some of the main things I

[3:43] can think of. Um, I haven't seen or

[3:45] spoken to my dad in probably 15 years.

[3:48] Um

[3:49] >> but I don't at least like I don't feel

[3:53] anything towards that like I I I wish

[3:56] him well now and I don't have any

[3:58] regrets about my childhood but maybe the

[4:00] sub subconscious stuff there but one

[4:02] thing I would say is I said to my friend

[4:04] when he passed not to my friend but I

[4:06] said to myself I'm going to make the

[4:09] most of my life and live your life as

[4:10] well and because I was there when it

[4:12] happened and I I felt like you know I

[4:14] couldn't stop this

[4:16] >> um and at the same time for my mom as

[4:18] well. I just I've had this desire like I

[4:20] really want to make enough money so that

[4:22] I can uh basically give my mom an

[4:24] amazing retirement. She's in her 70s now

[4:26] and I just feel like maybe it's just too

[4:28] much pressure on myself, you know, too

[4:30] much weight to carry and then my own

[4:32] dreams as well. So I think that's like

[4:34] an overview. Um

[4:36] >> yeah. Are you um in a relationship now?

[4:38] Romantic relationship.

[4:40] >> Yes, I am. Um just uh three years. Three

[4:44] years. Yeah. And it's it's been the best

[4:45] and healthiest relationship I've had. So

[4:48] I'm really grateful for that. Yeah.

[4:49] >> Amazing. Amazing. Okay. So with your

[4:52] friend was this this was back home in

[4:53] Cornwall when you're on the cliff

[4:55] somewhere.

[4:55] >> Correct. Yeah.

[4:56] >> And this was a friend from growing up

[4:59] from school from both.

[5:01] >> Yeah. So I we met a bit later on. So he

[5:03] was in um he was a few years younger

[5:05] than me and we were kind of college

[5:07] university time. You know, back then I

[5:09] was I was just a youngster in England

[5:11] having fun on the weekends, drinking a

[5:13] lot, partying. Had no idea what I wanted

[5:15] to do with my life.

[5:16] >> Um, probably not really happy to be

[5:18] honest, but just going, you know, going

[5:21] along as most youngsters do, trying to

[5:23] find their way in the world.

[5:24] >> Yeah. How old were you at the time?

[5:26] >> So, I was 22. So, it was uh 2010, I

[5:30] think it was now. Yeah.

[5:31] >> Okay. Um, and so I'm from a really

[5:34] beautiful place in Cornwall, like a in a

[5:36] in a fishing village. There's beautiful

[5:39] clifftops, fields, ocean, you know. Um,

[5:42] and they had this party there. It was

[5:44] like an event in a in a marquee and

[5:47] >> I was walking along with a friend and I

[5:49] saw I saw my friend, his name is Matt.

[5:52] He was sort of fighting some guy. He was

[5:54] on his back and I was a little bit

[5:56] drunk. So I kind of found it

[5:58] >> at first I thought he was kind of

[5:59] comical,

[6:00] >> amusing,

[6:01] >> but then he basically got kicked out by

[6:03] the security and I could see he was

[6:04] upset and I think he'd recently broken

[6:06] up with his girlfriend. I knew he wasn't

[6:08] like in the best headsp space,

[6:10] >> but I didn't really know much more than

[6:12] that. Um, and then my instinct was I

[6:16] I've got to go out after him to make

[6:17] sure he's okay. And there was another

[6:19] guy that did as well. And then he turned

[6:21] around and saw us and then he started

[6:23] running. So, I started running, bearing

[6:24] in mind, you know, I'd had a few ciders

[6:26] or something. Um,

[6:28] >> um,

[6:29] >> he he was, you know, pretty determined.

[6:31] He went through some brambled bushes,

[6:33] got to the edge of a cliff, and I'm kind

[6:35] of stumbling over. I'm trying to be

[6:36] careful. I don't want to fall off

[6:38] myself. He just like, don't come any

[6:40] closer.

[6:41] >> Um, and my memory

[6:43] >> was the other was the other guy there,

[6:44] too, or was it just you?

[6:45] >> Yeah, he was he was slightly over the

[6:47] shoulder. Um, yeah.

[6:49] >> So, he must have seen a similar thing.

[6:50] Yeah. Um, and

[6:52] >> we had we were back and forth a little

[6:54] bit and he was, you know, balling his

[6:56] eyes out and I I was telling him, you

[6:57] know, it's okay. Like, come down.

[6:59] Everything's going to be all right.

[7:01] Let's let's talk. I can't remember the

[7:03] exact conversation at the time, to be

[7:05] honest.

[7:06] >> And my headsp space at that time, like I

[7:07] I had no idea what was going to happen.

[7:09] You know, I really didn't think that was

[7:11] a possibility.

[7:12] >> And he just

[7:14] >> basically shared his last message with

[7:15] me and said, "Paul, I love you. It's not

[7:17] your fault. Tell my friends and family

[7:19] it's not their fault. I can't go on

[7:20] anymore. And then it was it was like

[7:24] being it's so hard to describe. I just

[7:27] looked into into the air and he wasn't

[7:30] there. And I and I was it's like I time

[7:32] froze and I just felt like did this is

[7:35] this real? It it was almost like a

[7:37] movie. It's really hard to explain.

[7:39] >> Yeah. Um, and then the next thing I

[7:41] know, I'm on my phone, you know, calling

[7:43] 999 and um, yeah, he he

[7:48] he did survive the fall, but no no

[7:51] expectancy of life, you know, he severe

[7:53] head injuries and

[7:55] >> yeah,

[7:55] >> they basically waited the next day for

[7:57] his dad to arrive from up uh, up north

[7:59] somewhere in England and then they

[8:01] turned off the life support and uh,

[8:04] yeah, that was that was a really

[8:06] challenging thing to experience. No, I'm

[8:08] sorry you had to see that and witness

[8:10] that. And I can as best as possible be

[8:13] there with you obviously not actually

[8:15] literally but energetically and what

[8:17] that must have felt like especially for

[8:18] someone as sensitive as you and um I'm

[8:22] sorry that you had to go through that.

[8:23] Um did you have any support after that?

[8:27] Did you speak to a therapist? Did you

[8:29] get together with the other friend there

[8:30] with you and talk it through?

[8:33] >> I mean I had lots of friends and firstly

[8:36] thank you. I appreciate that and I

[8:37] acknowledge you for listening and and

[8:40] thank you for listening to me. Um

[8:43] I I had friends around me and you know

[8:46] we had a big friend group which was good

[8:48] and some of the positives if you can

[8:51] take positives from that were that it

[8:52] brought a lot of people together. Um but

[8:56] with regards to therapy I didn't um a

[8:59] lot of people said to me at the time you

[9:01] you know you should probably go and

[9:02] speak to someone. Um, and I remember

[9:04] thinking at the time, this must be my

[9:07] way of I I said to myself, I must just

[9:10] be really like strong in my mind or

[9:12] something.

[9:12] >> Um,

[9:13] >> and clearly I must have been just

[9:15] probably suppressing a lot of it. Um,

[9:19] >> but

[9:20] >> and it there was, you know, there was an

[9:21] ongoing thing for a while. We had to go

[9:23] to court a few years later and just, you

[9:25] know, eventually they didn't put it down

[9:27] to suicide. um he did jump but because

[9:30] he was under the influence and in a you

[9:33] know they they think that maybe he might

[9:34] not have made that decision but anyway

[9:38] >> um I didn't speak to anyone um and so I

[9:43] think that's been at the back of my mind

[9:44] a little bit just with where I'm at now

[9:46] like just more out of curiosity

[9:49] wondering oh maybe there's something

[9:51] that I bottled up then which I I'm

[9:53] unaware of now because I pushed it down

[9:56] but

[9:57] >> um even at the funeral. Um, I I couldn't

[10:00] cry in front of people and I had that

[10:02] that feeling in my throat, you know,

[10:04] that heaviness

[10:05] >> and then when I was on my own, I would I

[10:07] would cry. But I think that's just part

[10:09] of the

[10:10] >> the message that a lot of men get when

[10:12] we're younger, like, you know, it's

[10:14] don't cry in front of people or

[10:15] something. So,

[10:16] >> yeah.

[10:17] >> And um, so yeah, I never spoke to anyone

[10:19] about that. Um well I spoke to a lot of

[10:21] friends about it and you know sure at

[10:23] the time going out drinking and just

[10:24] talking through it and stuff but I

[10:26] didn't have like professional help with

[10:28] it.

[10:28] >> No. Okay. So if you were to look at it

[10:31] now in hindsight um you know 15 years

[10:34] later

[10:36] what would you say was one of the one or

[10:39] two of the key takeaways? Either good

[10:41] nor bad you know it doesn't really

[10:42] matter. But what how did that sort of

[10:45] mold or shape the way that you view

[10:47] yourself and life? I know you said to a

[10:50] certain degree you've put pressure on

[10:51] yourself. You want to live a double life

[10:53] to include Matt as well, but

[10:55] >> yeah.

[10:55] >> What what what would you say looking

[10:57] back that you took from that experience?

[11:01] I remember like I mean for this thing I

[11:04] feel quite proud of it because I feel

[11:06] like I could have gone down a really

[11:08] different path and

[11:10] >> um someone introduced me to the book the

[11:13] secret of the time which I know gets a

[11:15] lot of you know bad stick from uh some

[11:18] of things but actually that really

[11:20] helped me at the time and then it opened

[11:22] my eyes up to you know different

[11:24] teachers Abraham Hicks or Bob Proctor

[11:26] and I you know I I went down the path of

[11:28] self-improvement And in a short space of

[11:31] time, I was my mind was like, I'm I'm

[11:34] gonna change my life now. And and it was

[11:36] like a shift I had. So that was

[11:38] definitely

[11:39] >> a powerful

[11:40] >> thing for me. Um I think also it it

[11:43] revealed to me how short and precious

[11:46] life is. It just

[11:48] >> the constant

[11:50] thoughts around, wow, he was here and

[11:53] now he's not here. I'm never going to

[11:54] see him again in in this physical

[11:57] lifetime, you know.

[11:58] >> Yeah. So it's really a reminder of how

[12:00] like precious life is the feeling of not

[12:03] wanting to waste

[12:04] >> time and that stuff.

[12:06] >> Yeah. Beautiful. And yet you know being

[12:09] honest with yourself as you mentioned

[12:10] that you can occasionally procrastinate

[12:13] like the best of us and all humans. So

[12:15] can you see maybe that when you have

[12:17] this sense of life is precious and it's

[12:19] so short and fragile and then at the

[12:21] same time you occasionally

[12:22] procrastinate, do you occasionally beat

[12:24] yourself up for that or put some

[12:26] pressure on yourself?

[12:28] I mean, it happens quite a lot to be

[12:29] honest. Um,

[12:32] >> yeah, I get it. Yeah, that's why I just

[12:34] wanted to bring it up. Okay, so there's

[12:36] a couple of things that come to mind as

[12:37] you've obviously heard from whatever

[12:41] the courses you've done in freedom or

[12:43] podcasts I've been on, I sort of look at

[12:45] these subconscious prisons, right? So

[12:48] you've alluded to a couple of them based

[12:50] on what you can ascertain from your own

[12:51] childhood, but what would you say uh one

[12:54] or two of the primal prisons that you

[12:57] know might be holding you back that

[12:59] would definitely influence uh finances

[13:01] and abundance?

[13:05] I think I one I mean I I don't I know

[13:09] you I think you said you had like 10

[13:11] prisons and I don't know if I've uh

[13:13] heard them all and maybe that's for the

[13:14] book which I'll look forward to.

[13:16] >> Yeah.

[13:17] >> But um

[13:18] >> I think um one of them there's

[13:21] definitely some of the not enoughness

[13:24] there

[13:25] >> on a deep level. I think

[13:28] >> there's something along the lines of

[13:30] it's my fault.

[13:31] >> Yes. Yeah. the like that. I think that's

[13:34] definitely true, especially when I

[13:35] blamed myself when it happened, which is

[13:38] pretty ridiculous because it's it's not

[13:40] my fault, but that was kind of the the

[13:42] message I was. Um and then I think

[13:47] another thing which I didn't mention um

[13:51] which could potentially be related to

[13:53] you know transitioning into the next

[13:55] phase of business and stuff is

[13:58] >> I with the avoidance like I really

[14:01] conflict is a big thing for me.

[14:03] >> So like the idea of a customer or client

[14:05] being dissatisfied or someone wanting to

[14:07] argue like

[14:09] >> I I hate that feeling. And so

[14:12] >> um

[14:13] >> there might be something in that sense

[14:15] as well. Um

[14:16] >> yeah,

[14:17] >> but I do I think like the it's my fault

[14:20] thing rings rings true or like I've done

[14:22] something wrong or like if I do

[14:25] something I could do something wrong so

[14:27] maybe I should just stay silent or or

[14:29] not do too much.

[14:30] >> Um may maybe there's something else

[14:32] there, but that's that's probably just

[14:34] my own reflection of what I would

[14:36] anticipate.

[14:36] >> Yeah. very very astute, you know, and

[14:38] again where I just recognize your

[14:41] intelligence which would actually

[14:42] ironically make you or not so ironically

[14:45] a good coach and the stuff that you want

[14:46] to perhaps transition into from your

[14:48] personal training. So I would say yes in

[14:51] that bed fellows of it's my fault um the

[14:55] I'm not enough or the fear of conflict

[14:57] that you know you might do something

[14:59] wrong. Um, it there all associated. And

[15:04] what I want you to consider is

[15:07] the way that I hear it for you

[15:09] energetically is

[15:12] it's all up to you,

[15:14] right? So, it's a little different than

[15:17] it's my fault. That's the aftermath,

[15:19] right? So, if you look at it very subtle

[15:21] in terms of a cascade, right? It's my

[15:24] fault or I did something wrong and

[15:25] therefore I'm in trouble with a customer

[15:27] or client. That's all predicated with

[15:30] the the story that it's it's all up to

[15:33] you in the first place.

[15:35] >> Right.

[15:36] >> Okay. Very subtle, but again, I'm

[15:38] appealing to your intelligence. So, can

[15:40] you feel that in your body that it's

[15:42] it's all up to Paul, right? Like

[15:44] whatever it is, fill in the blank. Like

[15:45] it was up to you to save Matt. It's up

[15:47] to you to take care of your mom. It's up

[15:49] to you to not procrastinate. It's up to

[15:51] you to make more money. It's up to you

[15:53] to transition into coaching.

[15:55] >> 100%. Yeah. It's it's like a a weight

[15:58] that I'm carrying around which could

[16:00] potentially be why I go through phases

[16:03] of motivation and then I burn out and I

[16:05] just I need a break from this.

[16:07] >> Yeah. And you can get rid of the could.

[16:08] Right. So that's that is why you go

[16:10] through phases. Right. So so the thing

[16:12] that I want you to presence which you

[16:13] just did is the heaviness the weight of

[16:16] the idea this sense of it's not

[16:18] responsibility that's powerful. It's

[16:20] responsibility that is ownorous. Right.

[16:22] It's the there's two ways of looking at

[16:25] responsibility and we're going to

[16:26] discern between the two so that you can

[16:28] shift out of this. You have

[16:29] responsibility that's associated with

[16:31] fault, guilt and shame, right?

[16:33] >> Yeah.

[16:34] >> Whereas my responsibility is associated

[16:36] with power and sovereignty and freedom

[16:38] and individuality. Right? Like that I'm

[16:40] responsible for my life as a choice, not

[16:44] as a as a sort of a sentence, right?

[16:47] Like like a prison sentence. So the one

[16:50] you're living in is very confining and

[16:52] there's the weight which is also why you

[16:54] have some of that avoidant slash

[16:57] procrastination energy right so just for

[17:00] a minute for your own sense of presence

[17:02] if you live in the world of where it's

[17:03] absolutely it's up to Paul like to for

[17:06] anything to happen you know and I know

[17:08] it's not all of life but that's how it's

[17:10] going to feel h how does that feel apart

[17:12] from the weight what else what else are

[17:14] you present to if you're really looking

[17:16] through the lens of it's all up to me

[17:18] how does that impact you.

[17:22] >> It feels very stressful.

[17:24] >> Yeah.

[17:25] >> Yeah. I'm not sure what other emotions

[17:27] would be present with that.

[17:29] >> Well, let's look at if it's all up to

[17:30] you and things don't happen, then how do

[17:32] you feel?

[17:33] >> Like I failed.

[17:34] >> Yeah. So, failure, frustration, there

[17:36] could be the guilt and the shame,

[17:38] >> disappointment in yourself, judgment.

[17:41] >> Yeah. Definitely some self judgment.

[17:42] Yeah. Being myself up. Yeah.

[17:44] >> Yeah. you can start to see, wow, that

[17:46] that's the world that you traffic in,

[17:48] the world that you communicate from, the

[17:50] world that you live in. But the onus and

[17:52] the the heaviness that comes with that

[17:55] is going to be part of the

[17:56] procrastination, the guilt, the shame,

[17:59] the lethargy, the apathy, the

[18:00] pointlessness. And you know, even though

[18:03] I know you didn't really dip your toe

[18:04] into it, but back in the day when you

[18:06] weren't necessarily suicidal like your

[18:09] friend, but that would be an extension

[18:11] of that world, right? It becomes so

[18:13] heavy after a while. It's like, well,

[18:14] what's the [ __ ] point of living?

[18:16] Like, you know, I'm doing the best I

[18:17] can. I'm a good guy, but I'm not getting

[18:19] the results I want. The the the brain

[18:22] and the ego is just going to quit at

[18:24] some point.

[18:26] >> Can you see that?

[18:27] >> Yeah.

[18:28] >> So, awesome. So, that's the number one

[18:31] or one of them. Uh, you know, and I

[18:33] think there's another one that really is

[18:34] combined. It's correlated, but it's also

[18:37] part of the avoidant energy. So, this

[18:39] goes back to you sitting on the couch

[18:41] watching TV with your mom, not knowing

[18:44] what kind of dad you were going to get

[18:46] who came home from the pub. So, what was

[18:48] that boy's experience in that space?

[18:50] Right. You obviously said you were

[18:51] scared, you didn't know, but but what

[18:54] might be the way that you relate to the

[18:57] future uh that had all of this potential

[19:01] fear associated with it? Um,

[19:05] I think it was it was definitely, yeah,

[19:08] like a a a scary kind of feeling. Um,

[19:11] >> yeah.

[19:12] >> Yeah.

[19:12] >> And I think that's probably why I took

[19:15] on the role of being the quiet one. And

[19:17] and you know, just that was my survival

[19:20] strategy, I think, in that situation.

[19:23] >> Yeah. Um, which potentially as we talk

[19:26] about the future could mean that's why I

[19:28] struggle to show up consistently because

[19:30] I just, you know, sometimes I've said I

[19:32] just want to like have a business where

[19:36] I can have a private life and then I've

[19:38] got this other side of me from my

[19:40] experiences where I have a big desire to

[19:42] help people and it's like this this kind

[19:44] of battle between the two.

[19:46] >> Yeah. That's the break on the you know

[19:48] they break the accelerator at the sim,

[19:50] you know, simultaneously. Right. Yeah.

[19:52] Awesome. So it's very scary. So

[19:53] especially if you presence the energy of

[19:55] that little boy, there's this sort of

[19:57] impending potential doom. Don't know

[19:59] what dad's going to be like. Is he going

[20:00] to be fun drunk? Is he going to be angry

[20:02] drunk? Is he going to be scary drunk?

[20:04] Either way, the way that your brain has

[20:06] become associated with what's about to

[20:08] happen is based predominantly in fear.

[20:11] >> Yeah.

[20:12] >> Right. From that age. So then if you're

[20:15] related to the future

[20:17] from a perspective of fear, what could

[20:20] you sort of summize from that and the

[20:23] way that you would approach the future?

[20:26] How what's your relationship to the

[20:28] future if the way that you're feeling

[20:29] about it is scared?

[20:32] >> It's avoidance. Like avoid,

[20:34] >> right? Yeah.

[20:36] >> So now if you look at that, so avoidance

[20:38] as a little boy meant the way that you

[20:40] coped and strategized was let's be

[20:42] quiet. I want to make sure that I don't

[20:43] stand out.

[20:44] >> Yeah.

[20:45] >> And then yet here you are wanting to

[20:46] take care of your mom, wanting to live a

[20:48] legacy for Matt, wanting to take care of

[20:49] your girlfriend, obviously wanting to

[20:51] fulfill on your own dreams, but the

[20:52] energy that you have is avoidant. Don't

[20:55] stand out. And if anything, be quiet.

[20:57] >> Yeah.

[20:58] >> But you're in an industry where you

[20:59] actually want to help people, right? So

[21:01] you start to see the conflict and the

[21:04] the paradox, the contradiction that your

[21:07] energy is versus your aspiration is.

[21:11] >> Yeah. Absolutely.

[21:12] >> Yeah. Which itself adds to more

[21:14] frustration. Right. That's the break and

[21:16] the accelerator again.

[21:17] >> Yeah.

[21:18] >> So, what I want you to consider is that

[21:20] if the way that your brain, and I'm

[21:22] going to assert is currently wired is

[21:24] that your relationship to the future is

[21:27] a predominantly fear-based one,

[21:30] then there's no motivation or drive to

[21:33] pursue the future.

[21:37] >> That's just basic logic, right? If my

[21:39] future is filled with potentially worst

[21:41] case scenarios, fear and

[21:44] at some maybe extreme level your own

[21:46] existence, your own survival, right? Cuz

[21:48] that little boy, you know, he's not

[21:50] thinking rashly, he doesn't think, well,

[21:52] dad's just drunk. He's probably going to

[21:54] D. But from the perspective of of a

[21:56] being who's young, it's pure survival,

[21:59] right? Like you don't know if you're

[22:01] going to see the next day if dad's in a

[22:03] really bad state.

[22:05] >> Right.

[22:06] >> Right. So, I want you to recognize the

[22:08] combination and going back to the first

[22:10] one, it's all up to you,

[22:12] >> right? But the way that you're related

[22:16] to life and especially forward motion is

[22:19] it's like you're stuck in quicksand,

[22:23] >> right? If you get that image of here you

[22:25] are in quicksand or concrete, you know,

[22:27] maybe it's still slightly soft concrete,

[22:29] but you can't move, but you want

[22:32] something and it's up to you to get it,

[22:34] but you're so scared to move forward.

[22:36] That leaves you in this space of sort of

[22:39] basically stagnation.

[22:42] >> Yeah, that that's that's basically how I

[22:45] feel like I've been for the past I don't

[22:47] know six years or something like that.

[22:49] >> Yeah. And that's probably being

[22:51] generous. It may have been exaggerated

[22:53] during those six years, but I'm going to

[22:55] guess it's been there probably for like

[22:56] 30 plus years, right?

[22:58] >> Yeah.

[22:58] >> Which is fine. So, this is your

[23:00] opportunity as a soul in this

[23:01] incarnation to get past this, right? So,

[23:04] looking through those prisons, you can

[23:06] now see, okay, if it's all up to me,

[23:08] then there's an immense amount of fear,

[23:10] pressure, concern that you might do

[23:12] something wrong, you might upset

[23:13] someone, and it's going to be your

[23:15] fault. So the again this uh overload of

[23:19] responsibility that's dysfunctional and

[23:22] disempowering combined with well it's

[23:25] all up to me and in order for anything

[23:26] to happen I have to do [ __ ] but I don't

[23:28] want to do [ __ ] because if I move

[23:30] forward energetically into life that's

[23:33] sort of littered with potential worst

[23:35] case scenarios uh that have me scared

[23:38] and feeling fear.

[23:41] So you start to see the world that you

[23:43] you traffic in, that you function in.

[23:46] >> Yeah. So I mean that that's kind of I

[23:49] think articulates why I feel like I go

[23:52] around in circles because there's this

[23:54] this part of me that wants the growth

[23:56] that wants the the transformation that

[23:58] wants the changes

[23:59] >> and then there's this fear that's that's

[24:01] just pulling me back.

[24:03] >> Yes. Absolutely. So this is where we

[24:05] have to start with awareness so you can

[24:06] at least see it presently and go wow

[24:08] this is literally my life. This is the

[24:10] life that Paul lives, right?

[24:11] >> Yeah.

[24:11] >> Even with his intelligence, even with

[24:13] his big heart, even with his experience,

[24:15] even with his desire to make a

[24:16] difference, you are at a subconscious

[24:19] level imprisoned and sort of frozen in

[24:23] your ability to express yourself. Even

[24:26] at the funeral, like you said, like you

[24:27] can't express the tears or the anger or

[24:30] the frustration.

[24:34] >> Yeah. So, so perfect. So the way I want

[24:36] you to consider so what are you saying

[24:38] about the future if it's littered with

[24:39] worst case scenarios you're scared what

[24:42] is what is the underlying way that

[24:44] you're relating to the future

[24:47] in terms of yourself like if you you

[24:50] know you know my terminology is like I'm

[24:53] not something like what what would you

[24:54] say about the future as it relates to

[24:56] Paul like I'm not what in the future

[25:01] >> um

[25:02] based on uh the the perspective of that

[25:05] fear, I would say I'm not

[25:08] um I'm not successful.

[25:10] >> Yeah. Which is a present state, right?

[25:12] So I'm not successful. So it's going to

[25:14] be in future language.

[25:16] >> Okay.

[25:18] >> So you're trying to avoid something. If

[25:19] you're trying to avoid something, it's

[25:20] cuz you feel that you're not what?

[25:22] >> I'm not

[25:24] capable.

[25:26] >> Yeah, that's part of it for sure. That's

[25:27] how it leaves you feeling.

[25:30] But that's present, right? If I'm not

[25:32] capable when, well, I'm not capable now.

[25:34] But in language, I'm not going because

[25:38] it's future based.

[25:39] >> Yeah. So, I'm not I'm not going to be

[25:42] successful. I'm not going to achieve my

[25:43] goals.

[25:44] >> Yeah. Perfect. It's in that realm,

[25:46] right? So, feel that. So, think about

[25:48] that. This isn't a conscious thought.

[25:50] Your conscious thought is I want to help

[25:51] people. I want to make a difference. I

[25:52] want to take care of my mom. I want to

[25:54] take care of my girlfriend. I want to

[25:55] leave a legacy for Matt. But the way

[25:58] that you relate to life is that I'm not

[26:00] going to be successful. I'm not. So,

[26:02] what's the point? Do you see?

[26:05] >> So that's the tugofwar where that's what

[26:07] you you want to do something, but the

[26:10] way that you relate to your future is

[26:12] it's not going to happen anyway. So it

[26:14] all starts to become completely futile.

[26:17] >> Which is why you could feel apathetic

[26:19] and lethargic and avoidant.

[26:23] >> It's interesting because I feel like

[26:25] I've done so much like you know work on

[26:28] and self maybe too much. Sometimes you

[26:30] can do too much. But like I I genuinely

[26:32] believe like so much is possible like

[26:35] for

[26:36] >> but but maybe even that thought

[26:39] >> is more of a general thought than to my

[26:41] own experience.

[26:43] >> So you you got to understand the

[26:44] difference between your intellect and

[26:46] your conscious understanding of life and

[26:49] listening to my stuff pure possibility.

[26:52] First is your body and your subconscious

[26:56] which is stagnant and it doesn't want to

[26:58] move forward because of fear and apathy

[27:00] cuz well it's not going to work anyway.

[27:02] I'm not going to be successful.

[27:05] >> So the way that I phrase it in terms of

[27:07] one of these prisons is that you're not

[27:09] going to be okay.

[27:10] [Music]

[27:12] >> It's a little bit more of a catch all,

[27:13] right? It's not so much around the arena

[27:15] of success or finance, but just

[27:17] generally Paul's not going to be okay.

[27:21] because that's that little boy's

[27:23] experience. It's not logical. It's just

[27:25] he's scared. And so what he's saying is,

[27:27] I don't know how my dad's going to come

[27:29] home and that means that my survival is

[27:31] at stake, which is I'm not going to be

[27:33] okay. Whatever happens, it's not that

[27:35] you're going to die, but it's not like,

[27:37] oh, I'm going to be awesome and

[27:39] everything's going to be amazing. That's

[27:40] not the way you're relating to the

[27:42] future.

[27:44] >> Yeah.

[27:44] >> Do you see? You would have a different

[27:47] way of moving through life with a

[27:49] different sense of motivation and self

[27:53] discipline which would be excited about

[27:56] where you're going versus this more sort

[27:59] of apathetic lethargic and heavy way of

[28:02] trying to like walk through molasses or

[28:05] maple syrup or quick sand where you're

[28:08] like ah yeah I'm I want to get there but

[28:11] energetically the way you're relating to

[28:12] the future is it's not desirable so why

[28:14] the hell would I move forward.

[28:18] >> Can you see that? So, I want you to

[28:19] really understand these two worlds,

[28:20] right? It's up to you,

[28:23] >> which is filled with and littered with a

[28:25] massive amount of potential guilt and

[28:27] shame and failure

[28:30] combined with you're not going to be

[28:32] okay anyway.

[28:36] So, can you start to feel in your body

[28:38] where that's what creates all of that

[28:40] density and that gravity both

[28:43] energetically, psychologically, and

[28:45] emotionally?

[28:46] >> Maybe this is like, you know, go back to

[28:48] my friend and when I was unable to

[28:49] express emotion, I feel like I I

[28:51] sometimes struggle with the the feeling

[28:54] of what you're sharing now.

[28:55] >> Yeah. Yeah. That's okay. That's okay.

[28:58] But you could obviously earlier you

[28:59] sense the heaviness, the weight of that

[29:01] like it's all up to you.

[29:02] >> Yeah. I felt I could feel that. Yeah.

[29:04] >> Yeah. So that's the weight of it's up to

[29:06] you. And then you can feel the avoidant

[29:10] energy which is the term you've used as

[29:12] it relates to a future that's not

[29:14] desirable where you're not going to be

[29:15] okay. Right. You can feel that.

[29:17] >> Yeah.

[29:17] >> So you think about it. You've got the

[29:19] weight of thinking it's all entirely up

[29:21] to you with the potential guilt and

[29:22] shame of being a failure and not

[29:23] fulfilling combined with the avoidant

[29:27] energy which is really the reflection

[29:29] the reaction to a future that you're

[29:31] scared of. What if I don't make it,

[29:34] become successful, make enough money,

[29:36] take care of my mom, whatever.

[29:39] That that combination is a death

[29:41] sentence.

[29:43] >> Yeah.

[29:44] Even in the face of all of your will and

[29:47] your aspiration and your inspiration and

[29:49] all the beautiful intentions you have,

[29:52] you know, it's it's

[29:54] it's going to fall short because the

[29:57] biggest weight, the sort of the the mass

[29:59] of the iceberg under the water is the

[30:02] heaviness and the feeling of guilt and

[30:04] shame and dysfunctional responsibility

[30:07] combined with the anticipation of an

[30:10] unfulfilled future.

[30:12] >> Right.

[30:14] So, let's go. So, let's go through the

[30:16] exercises. So, you know, if I were to

[30:19] cut Paul open, am I going to find a

[30:21] physical manufacturing label inside of

[30:23] you that says Paul born in England, born

[30:26] in I don't know if you're born in

[30:27] Cornwall, but born in England? You know,

[30:29] it's all up to him. Am I going to find

[30:31] that physical manufacturing label inside

[30:33] of you?

[30:34] >> No,

[30:35] >> I'm not. Right. Okay. So, it's not part

[30:37] of your hardware. If someone knew how to

[30:39] read DNA, part of your physical sort of

[30:41] DNA and chromosomes in a cell, they

[30:44] could explain your eye colors and your

[30:47] body type. So, this isn't part of that.

[30:50] So, where does the I'm not going to be

[30:51] okay live? Where does that because it is

[30:53] part of your reality?

[30:55] >> Yeah,

[30:56] I'm not going to be okay.

[30:58] >> Where is that? Where are we going to

[31:00] find that?

[31:01] >> I think in my chest.

[31:03] >> Okay, that's where the sensation is

[31:05] located, which makes sense, right?

[31:07] because that's where there's the life

[31:10] force of how you breathe, right? Like,

[31:12] you know, so there's a heaviness which

[31:13] tends to suffocate us a bit. So, I'm not

[31:16] going to, you know, it's up to me is

[31:19] going to feel, as you said, weighty,

[31:21] right? So, if you're wearing a lot of

[31:23] weight on your body, you wouldn't be

[31:24] able to breathe so easily, which is the

[31:26] absence of expansion,

[31:29] >> you know, inspiration to be able to

[31:31] inspire, which is also receiving. So in

[31:34] the world of it's all up to me there is

[31:36] that constraint. So that's where it

[31:38] feels. But where is the language? It's

[31:40] all up to me. Where does that live?

[31:43] >> Where the words live?

[31:45] >> Uh in my head.

[31:46] >> Yeah. In your head. Right. I want you to

[31:49] consider that in your head points to

[31:52] where you've become misidentified with

[31:54] your p personality or your ego or your

[31:56] identity, whatever word. So that it's

[31:58] the pool that you are for yourself. You

[32:00] don't walk around saying it's all up to

[32:02] me. It's just it's so up to you that

[32:05] that's just how you live.

[32:08] >> Yeah.

[32:09] >> Right. It's not even a belief. It's just

[32:11] the way life is. It Well, duh. It's all

[32:13] up to me.

[32:16] So when you look through that lens of

[32:18] it's all up to me as though it is you,

[32:20] we get the world of heaviness and apathy

[32:23] and a sense of potential failure and the

[32:27] overall sort of gravity of well it could

[32:31] be your fault if you [ __ ] it up. Right?

[32:35] >> So if it's in your head and I'm going to

[32:37] say more accurately it's in the space

[32:38] that is your mind and it's made up of

[32:41] words. It's up to me. Like it's

[32:44] literally sound, right? So if it's just

[32:47] words and it's just in your mind, is it

[32:50] a truth that who Paul is is that it's up

[32:54] to you? Is is that really who you are?

[32:58] >> No, it's not.

[32:59] >> It's not, is it?

[33:00] >> No.

[33:00] >> So I want you to consider it's the way

[33:02] that you relate to yourself and hence

[33:03] life. It's not you. It's a very deeply

[33:07] entrenched program that you've become

[33:10] misidentified with.

[33:12] Yes.

[33:13] >> So, just off the top of your head, if

[33:15] it's all up to you, what doesn't that

[33:16] what what does that not allow for?

[33:19] >> It does. I mean, I would say the first

[33:21] word is is kind of your work freedom.

[33:24] >> Yeah. Definitely doesn't allow for

[33:25] freedom, right? Cuz whether you realize

[33:28] it or not, 24/7 you're constantly

[33:29] working because it's all up to you. Even

[33:31] if you're sleeping, your brain is

[33:33] working trying to figure stuff out.

[33:35] What? Perfect. So, it doesn't allow for

[33:36] freedom. What else does it not allow

[33:37] for? If it's all up to you, the whole of

[33:40] your life is up to you. What does that

[33:41] not allow for?

[33:43] >> Life itself.

[33:44] >> Yeah. Only life itself, right? Not a big

[33:49] deal. You're only denying life itself.

[33:51] So in this case, denying life itself,

[33:53] what does that represent?

[33:55] >> Possibility.

[33:57] >> Yeah. Think about it this way

[33:59] energetically. If it's all up to you,

[34:01] which way is the flow? It

[34:03] >> there's a lot of resistance there. It's

[34:05] it's it's uh I'm I'm going against the

[34:08] grain or I'm going against you know fine

[34:11] upstream.

[34:12] >> Totally. Because if it's up to you, it's

[34:14] all from me out.

[34:16] >> Yeah.

[34:17] >> Right. It's all It's all up It's from

[34:20] Paul out. It's up to me. So what now if

[34:23] you look at it that way visually, what

[34:25] does that deny?

[34:30] >> Denies me to receive things.

[34:32] >> Bingo. Yeah.

[34:34] >> And really get that. This is why it was

[34:36] so hard for you to see this because

[34:37] you've lived for 30 plus years in the

[34:40] absence of receiving.

[34:43] >> Yeah.

[34:45] >> But really get that, mate, because this

[34:47] is a massive blind spot.

[34:49] >> Yes.

[34:49] >> You're you're acting like a silo, like

[34:52] this individual guy who's trying to

[34:53] [ __ ] save the whole planet, but by

[34:55] himself.

[34:57] >> Yeah.

[34:57] >> It's insanity. Even as you're saying

[35:00] that, I have a voice in my head saying,

[35:03] "But it is up to me, isn't it?" Well, of

[35:06] course, it's been there for 3 [ __ ]

[35:09] five years. You know,

[35:10] >> right? Yeah. So, that it's going to it's

[35:13] not going to want to go away. This is

[35:14] the biggest um obstacle of real freedom

[35:17] is transcending a voice that has defined

[35:20] you for so long.

[35:22] I hope you're enjoying this conversation

[35:24] and even moved by it. And perhaps part

[35:26] of you would love to learn more, to go

[35:27] deeper and really understand the

[35:29] mechanics of the mind, whether it's to

[35:31] help yourself or others you care about.

[35:32] What would it mean to you to be able to

[35:34] break free from the subconscious

[35:36] limitations that hold you back and help

[35:38] others to do the same? If that's

[35:39] something you'd love to be able to do

[35:41] and to discover with it a new world of

[35:43] freedom and possibility, then I invite

[35:45] you to check out my mastermind with over

[35:47] 30 hours of theory and coaching led by

[35:49] me personally. It's my most powerful and

[35:52] life-changing offering. You can find out

[35:54] more information at

[35:55] peterone.commastermind.

[35:59] Okay, and back to the conversation.

[36:00] >> The it's up to me. Um, also for me means

[36:04] like I'm I'm responsible for like doing

[36:06] taking the actions to change results in

[36:08] my life. That's kind of how I see it as

[36:10] well. But obviously from how you're

[36:12] showing it, I think it's much deeper

[36:14] than that. So

[36:16] >> much deeper. So yes, I'm not denying

[36:18] that as individuals it's incumbent upon

[36:20] us to have thoughts, feelings, and

[36:22] actions that then lead to some sort of

[36:24] result.

[36:24] >> Yeah.

[36:25] >> But are you separate from the whole of

[36:27] life?

[36:28] >> No.

[36:29] >> No. Okay. How did you meet your

[36:30] girlfriend?

[36:31] >> I I love how I met my girlfriend because

[36:34] I was uh getting frustrated on the

[36:37] dating apps for so long and then uh

[36:39] actually one of your I think one of your

[36:41] mastermind students is a RTT therapist.

[36:43] So I did a session with her and then

[36:46] >> uh we we met organically about a month

[36:48] or so later and the funny thing is I

[36:51] didn't change anything I guess just

[36:53] something had shifted in my perspective

[36:54] or my energy um but there was no no

[36:57] different techniques or anything you

[36:59] know

[37:00] >> where did you meet a grocery store? A

[37:02] party a friend's house like

[37:04] >> so we have Thanksgiving which has just

[37:06] been this this weekend actually and then

[37:08] we met three years ago at a friend's

[37:09] giving.

[37:11] >> Okay. So she was a friend of the friend

[37:13] that you went to too,

[37:14] >> correct? Yeah.

[37:15] >> And you didn't know her before that?

[37:17] >> No.

[37:18] >> Okay. So now just look at that. So was

[37:20] it up to you to make that happen?

[37:24] >> No, that was just life happening for me.

[37:27] >> Oh, okay. Yeah. There you go.

[37:31] Oops. Yeah. So do you see? So when you

[37:35] look through the lens of it's up to you,

[37:37] it's amazing that even something like

[37:39] that happen because even as much as we

[37:41] hold on to the prisons and our

[37:43] constraints and our limitations, life

[37:45] isn't going to let us stay there. So it

[37:47] gave you one example at least and

[37:49] there's probably going to be others that

[37:50] you can recall when you start to feel

[37:51] into this, but you have shut down, not

[37:54] through your own conscious choice. It's

[37:57] not your fault, but you've shut down the

[37:59] energy of receiving, which I could also

[38:01] call contribution.

[38:04] Yeah,

[38:05] >> it will, if you really look at it, it

[38:07] will be very difficult for Paul to

[38:08] receive compliments. It will be very

[38:11] difficult for you to receive

[38:12] opportunities. It will be very difficult

[38:14] for you to receive just cash out of

[38:16] nowhere

[38:17] because it's all up to you. Can you see

[38:20] the conflict between you saying you want

[38:22] to have abundance, but it's all up to

[38:25] you? Yet life, let's put it this way,

[38:28] the whole universe,

[38:30] which is last count 18 plus b billion

[38:33] light years wide, pretty big,

[38:35] >> you know, with everything that's out

[38:36] there.

[38:38] Is that more abundant or is Paul more

[38:41] abundant,

[38:43] >> the universe?

[38:45] >> But it's all up to you.

[38:49] Do you see how asinine it is?

[38:51] >> Yeah.

[38:52] >> You're swimming in abundance. that is

[38:55] constantly I assert trying to contribute

[38:57] to you in ways that you can't calculate

[39:00] like this Thanksgiving where this girl

[39:02] that ends up being someone you love and

[39:03] is your girlfriend shows up out of

[39:05] nowhere is life contributing to you

[39:09] because you're in a space for whatever

[39:11] reason at that moment you become so

[39:13] disenchanted with the dating apps which

[39:14] is Paul got out of his own way for a

[39:16] minute gave up because he was the one

[39:18] trying to make it work and in your

[39:20] giving up you actually opened and life

[39:22] was able to contribute to you for a

[39:24] Second, do you see that?

[39:26] >> Yeah.

[39:27] >> Yeah.

[39:28] >> So to go to go back to my question, one

[39:30] of the things that you are denying

[39:33] is life contributing to you and life is

[39:37] abundance. You told me in your video and

[39:39] at the beginning of this conversation,

[39:41] you know, you want to be financially

[39:43] more successful. You want abundance.

[39:45] >> Yeah.

[39:46] >> But I want you to be responsible for not

[39:48] fault, but powerfully understand the way

[39:51] you relate to life is it's all up to

[39:53] you. So life around you everywhere you

[39:55] go 24/7 is abundance trying to give to

[39:59] you. But the way you relate to it is no.

[40:01] No, it's all up to me. Don't worry about

[40:02] me. I'll take care of it.

[40:07] >> So then you wonder why you're not

[40:08] abundant.

[40:10] >> Yeah.

[40:11] >> Abundance is knocking on your door

[40:13] energetically, but for you, unless it's

[40:16] something that you do, you don't see it.

[40:20] >> Yeah, that's I think that's it. I feel

[40:23] like I, you know, I feel like I'm always

[40:26] working. Even when I'm not working, my

[40:28] mind is thinking about how to do

[40:30] something else.

[40:31] >> Which is exactly what I just said about

[40:32] 10 minutes ago that even when you're

[40:34] sleeping, your brain will be working on

[40:35] how to figure [ __ ] out.

[40:37] >> Yeah.

[40:39] >> But that's the world where you think

[40:40] it's all up to you. Where just through

[40:42] my first example, how did you meet your

[40:44] girlfriend? Prove to you it can't be up

[40:47] to you cuz you could never have

[40:48] calculated, oh, you know what I'm going

[40:50] to do? I'm going to quit dating apps.

[40:51] And then in about a month, I'm going to

[40:53] go to a friend's Thanksgiving and what

[40:54] I'm going to do is I'm going to attract

[40:56] a girl that I've never met before who

[40:58] I'm going to be attracted to. You start

[41:00] to see how preposterous that is.

[41:02] >> Yeah.

[41:04] >> Right.

[41:05] >> Yeah. It's pretty funny, actually.

[41:07] >> It is. It's a [ __ ] joke.

[41:09] >> Yeah. So, this is where you get to pull

[41:11] your head out of your ass, as we say

[41:14] back in the UK, and realize that you

[41:17] really don't have much say in life other

[41:20] than the degree to which you can stop it

[41:22] coming to you.

[41:24] >> Then,

[41:27] you're surrounded. You're literally in

[41:29] the middle of an abundant universe. And

[41:32] through no fault of your own, so there's

[41:34] no guilt, but just notice what you're

[41:36] doing is like blocking it flowing to

[41:38] you.

[41:40] Yeah, that that's what I felt like. I

[41:42] felt there must be some kind of blocks

[41:44] that I'm just not seeing because I don't

[41:47] know how many more things I need to do

[41:49] or how many courses I need to take or

[41:51] how much more knowledge I need to gain.

[41:52] It's like,

[41:54] >> you know what I mean? It's just

[41:55] >> Do I know what you mean? I'm I'm the one

[41:57] helping you see it. Like

[41:59] >> Absolutely.

[42:00] >> I know. It's uh Yeah, it's it's uh it's

[42:04] pretty ridiculous.

[42:05] >> It is ridiculous. So in the absence.

[42:07] Okay. So we said there's no

[42:09] manufacturing label that says it's up to

[42:11] me. It's in your head. What form? In

[42:13] words. So if it's only in words in your

[42:15] head. Is it true? No. Okay. So Paul, in

[42:18] the absence in the absence of it's up to

[42:20] you, and this might feel scary for a

[42:22] minute cuz this is all you've known. You

[42:24] can't relate to life like it's all up to

[42:26] you. That's gone.

[42:28] In fact, it's the opposite. You're like,

[42:29] "No, none of this shit's up to me. I'm

[42:31] part of life and life is just always

[42:33] trying to give to me." So you can't

[42:35] relate to life like it's all up to you.

[42:37] How might you feel walking around?

[42:45] >> I think like my first thoughts were

[42:48] pretty anxious cuz it feels scary.

[42:51] >> That's what I just said. Yeah.

[42:53] >> Yeah. That's the that's the that's the

[42:56] residual self trying to [ __ ] hold on.

[43:00] You don't know any other way to live.

[43:03] So this is why it takes a leap of faith,

[43:05] right? So it's not up to you. Life is

[43:07] not up to you.

[43:10] Now you you co-create.

[43:12] Yeah, you do your part, but it's a very

[43:14] small part relative to what life is

[43:17] doing.

[43:19] >> Like look at it like energetically uh

[43:22] from a physiological perspective, right?

[43:24] You you've studied obviously anatomy,

[43:27] biochemistry.

[43:28] So did you eat something today? Um, I

[43:31] ate some Korean food. It was I had some

[43:35] soup, a little bit of rice, and a little

[43:36] bit of kimchi and an egg.

[43:39] >> Okay, great. So, after you ate it, did

[43:41] you sit to one side and say, "Okay, I

[43:43] can't talk to you right now, girlfriend,

[43:46] because I It's up to me to digest my

[43:49] food, too.

[43:50] [Laughter]

[43:55] >> It's [ __ ] stupid, isn't it?"

[43:57] >> Yeah. I think I'd check myself into a

[43:59] mental hospital if I started saying

[44:00] that.

[44:01] >> Well, you're not far from it,

[44:05] >> right? Yeah. So, you didn't do that.

[44:07] Okay. So, so you're okay with digestion

[44:09] happening without you.

[44:11] >> Yeah.

[44:11] >> Okay. So, you let that go, but you say,

[44:13] "Okay, I'm going to sit down for a

[44:14] minute and I'm just [ __ ] I forgot to

[44:16] keep squeezing my heart so that I can

[44:18] circulate my blood."

[44:20] >> Did Did you No, you didn't do that

[44:21] either. Okay. Did you do the oxygen and

[44:24] carbon dioxide transfer between your

[44:26] lungs and the blood vessels?

[44:28] >> What?

[44:28] >> No, you didn't do that. Okay. Okay. Did

[44:31] you have you been slowly pushing your

[44:33] nails out because of the cell

[44:35] replication so that they can become

[44:37] longer so that you'll clip them in a

[44:38] couple of weeks?

[44:39] >> No.

[44:40] >> No. You There's not much you're really

[44:42] doing, is there really? If we break it

[44:43] down.

[44:45] >> No.

[44:46] >> Right.

[44:46] >> I think consciously just making sure I

[44:49] don't get hit by traffic as I cross the

[44:51] road. But

[44:52] >> yes. Well, you're definitely avoiding a

[44:53] lot, which is where you can start to be

[44:55] responsible for the fact that through

[44:57] the lens of it's up to you. What you're

[45:00] doing is denying that life is always

[45:02] trying to take care of you. From the

[45:03] oxygen you breathe to the carbon dioxide

[45:05] that you exhale to the waste products

[45:08] that go through your kidneys and through

[45:10] your bowels to get rid of any toxins to

[45:13] whatever fights are going on at

[45:15] different cells in your blood and your

[45:17] lymph to be able to remove so that you

[45:19] don't get sick. There are literally

[45:22] billions of reactions happening every

[45:24] day just in your body that you're

[45:27] oblivious to that have got nothing to do

[45:29] with you.

[45:30] >> Yeah.

[45:33] >> And then we can throw in meeting the

[45:35] girl that you apparently are really into

[45:36] cuz you've been with her for 3 years.

[45:38] You could not have orchestrated that,

[45:39] but life took care of it for you.

[45:42] Are you starting to see that life is

[45:45] probably a, you know, slightly more

[45:47] powerful than you?

[45:49] Yeah, definitely.

[45:51] >> Yeah. And and so now really seeing that,

[45:55] what might that feel like for you if you

[45:57] could let life be the 99.9% and pull the

[46:01] one point, you know, 0.1?

[46:04] What might that feel like if you walked

[46:06] around like that?

[46:07] >> Thinking and trying to feel what you

[46:09] just said, the first thing would be more

[46:12] relaxed shoulders and a bit of weight

[46:14] kind of eased off. Um, of course

[46:17] embodiment of it as a as a permanent

[46:19] thing, but that's kind of the feeling.

[46:20] It would be

[46:22] >> if that was a truth and I you know that

[46:24] would be Yeah, I think just a little bit

[46:26] of weight off the shoulders.

[46:28] >> Great.

[46:29] >> I can breathe for a moment.

[46:31] >> Okay. And that's where you pointed to

[46:33] your chest earlier when we spoke of

[46:34] where is it up to me. You pointed to

[46:36] your chest the tightness. Great. So that

[46:38] shows me that you're letting go of that

[46:40] constraint. Why? Because it's not a

[46:41] truth. I mean I could go on. And I could

[46:43] give you another thousand examples of

[46:45] things that happen in your life

[46:46] completely without you being present.

[46:50] >> So again, I can completely and utterly

[46:53] obliterate the lie that it's up to you.

[46:55] >> Not to challenge that, but just as a as

[46:58] a thought that came to me. Yeah. How

[47:00] would you differentiate that when it

[47:02] comes to the conscious and the

[47:03] subconscious mind then?

[47:04] >> Well, your conscious mind is what's

[47:06] really trying to think it's all up to

[47:08] you. your subconscious is already it's

[47:10] already ingrained in that,

[47:12] >> right? Like so what we're trying to do

[47:14] is soften the grip of your body, your

[47:16] lungs, your energetic behavior, your

[47:19] constant rumination even at sleep that

[47:22] is just driving your life and not

[47:24] allowing abundance to flow to you

[47:26] because you're blocking it. You think

[47:28] it's all up to you. Then

[47:30] >> so your subconscious is running the show

[47:33] and then consciously like I said you're

[47:34] trying to you're aspiring to you want to

[47:36] take care of your mom you want to take

[47:37] care of your girlfriend blah da da

[47:40] >> it doesn't matter you can think all day

[47:43] that's why you have these motivational

[47:44] moments for one two 3 months and then

[47:47] you collapse because you're fighting

[47:49] that's the break is your sub your

[47:50] subconscious

[47:52] the accelerator is your conscious cuz

[47:54] you're smart trying to do something

[47:57] again it's all beautiful it's well

[47:58] intended but it's futile

[48:00] Yeah.

[48:01] >> So again, when it's all up to you, what

[48:02] is there no room for in Paul's life?

[48:05] >> There's no room for anything. It's just

[48:08] >> Yeah. And anything is anything is

[48:11] everything and everything is abundance.

[48:14] >> Yeah. So yeah, no room for abundance if

[48:16] it's all up to me. Yeah.

[48:18] >> And what was it you wanted to talk to me

[48:20] about?

[48:21] >> Abundance.

[48:24] >> Yeah.

[48:26] >> Right.

[48:27] >> Yeah. It it felt like I knew there was

[48:29] something blocking me, but I just

[48:31] couldn't see what it was.

[48:33] >> That's why I'm here. So you can see the

[48:34] blind spot, see the lie, the see the

[48:37] prison that you're living in that's so

[48:39] suffocating that tightens your chest

[48:41] that certain tightens your your purse

[48:43] strings and it doesn't allow abundance

[48:44] to flow to you.

[48:47] >> It would be, listen, it would be as real

[48:50] for you to say life just flows

[48:52] abundantly to me. How would that feel if

[48:55] that's your reality? life flows

[48:57] abundantly to you.

[48:59] >> It feels

[49:01] freeing to some degree, but there's also

[49:03] a thought there of um which I know is

[49:06] ridiculous. It's like, oh, but then I

[49:08] don't know what's going to happen and I

[49:09] need to take back is is that trying to

[49:11] fight it again, which

[49:13] >> the same thing. This is going to be a

[49:14] challenge like anybody, right? Is that

[49:16] you I I have now for probably like close

[49:18] to 30 minutes at least, maybe 40,

[49:20] pointed out the prison, but that pales

[49:22] in comparison to 35 36 years of

[49:25] conditioning. Yeah. Yeah.

[49:27] >> And this is strong in you. And so this

[49:29] is going to be your challenge is not

[49:31] what I'm telling you in terms of the

[49:32] truth. The truth is life is abundant.

[49:34] >> And the truth is in terms of your

[49:36] reality and your conditioning, you've

[49:38] been looking through past tense. You've

[49:40] been looking through a lens of

[49:42] constraint. The thing is we become so

[49:45] identified with the constraint. We think

[49:46] it's the way it is. It's not. You don't

[49:49] have it like this is Paul's view. You

[49:51] have it like this is life.

[49:56] For somebody else, they might be walking

[49:57] around right now with like stacks of

[49:59] money coming their way because they're

[50:01] like, "Oh yeah, [ __ ] Life just gives to

[50:02] me. It's crazy. Like I go to this and

[50:04] someone gives me a check and I go to

[50:05] that and I meet this beautiful girl and

[50:07] then I get a job opportunity." Like

[50:09] that's equally not necessarily the

[50:10] truth, but it's the way they relate to

[50:11] life.

[50:13] >> Exactly.

[50:14] >> So what your challenge is is not whether

[50:16] life is going to contribute to you, but

[50:18] it's letting go of the false illusory

[50:21] belief that you've been living in. M

[50:24] >> and that's going to take some practice

[50:25] cuz that's going to be scary cuz you

[50:27] think unless you know you're holding the

[50:29] steering wheel, shit's going to go

[50:31] [ __ ] haywire.

[50:32] >> Yeah. Which probably goes back to the

[50:34] the fearful little boy of not you know

[50:38] worried about not being okay.

[50:39] >> Yeah. So that's the second part we want

[50:41] to get to, right? So that is exactly

[50:42] where you try to control circumstances

[50:44] for your own survival. So what you end

[50:47] up doing is just controlling a very

[50:48] small world that is lacking abundance.

[50:52] It's lacking contribution. It's lacking

[50:54] receiving.

[50:56] >> Okay. So, let's look at the second one

[50:58] as you brought it up and it's perfect

[50:59] timing. If I were to cut you open, am I

[51:01] going to find a manufacturing label

[51:03] physical inside of you that says, Paul,

[51:05] born in the UK, he's not going to be

[51:07] okay?

[51:08] >> No,

[51:09] >> not at all. So, where does it live?

[51:12] >> In the mind.

[51:13] >> Yeah. And what is it made up of?

[51:16] >> Just words. Vibration.

[51:18] >> Yeah. Literally just words. Blah blah

[51:20] blah. Yeah.

[51:21] >> And when you look through that lens, we

[51:23] know that you have avoidant energy. You

[51:25] feel scared. You're worried. You

[51:26] procrastinate. And you really don't move

[51:28] forward with things in life even though

[51:30] you're trying.

[51:32] >> Great. So, it's just words in your mind.

[51:34] It's just sound. I'm not going to be

[51:37] okay. So, is it an absolute truth

[51:41] that who you are is that you're not

[51:43] going to be okay?

[51:46] >> No.

[51:47] >> It's not. And right out of the gate,

[51:49] where's the evidence that we know it's

[51:50] not true?

[51:53] >> Cuz I am okay.

[51:54] >> Cuz you're there.

[51:55] >> Yeah.

[51:58] >> Cuz you're right in front of us, right?

[52:00] >> Yeah.

[52:01] >> Yeah. So, it's a pathetic lie. Not only

[52:04] is it a lie, but it's a terrible one.

[52:08] >> But it does a great job of creating your

[52:10] anxiety, your fear, your being scared,

[52:12] and hence being avoidant.

[52:15] So the combination of the two, one cuts

[52:17] you off from life and then the other

[52:19] prevents you from pursuing life. So then

[52:22] you wonder why you're living in a

[52:23] nonabundant universe.

[52:26] >> And your main concern, rightly so, was

[52:28] finances.

[52:30] >> Yeah.

[52:32] >> So is it true that you're not going to

[52:33] be okay?

[52:35] >> No.

[52:36] >> No. Okay. So in the absence of that

[52:39] fear, and again, this is a world that

[52:41] you're not familiar with that I'm

[52:42] introducing you to. So, it takes a

[52:43] little bit of a leap and a bit of

[52:45] imagination.

[52:46] >> What if Paul could not relate to life

[52:48] like he's not going to be okay?

[52:49] Literally impossible. As it relates to

[52:51] the future, you had no fear, no avoidant

[52:53] energy, no concern for your own

[52:54] survival. How might you feel in the way

[52:57] that you go about life?

[53:02] Relaxed.

[53:03] >> Yeah, there you go. That was a nice

[53:05] >> Yeah,

[53:07] relaxed. And uh like I don't need to be

[53:11] rushing. I don't need to be anywhere. I

[53:12] don't need to do anything like specific.

[53:14] I'm It's It's all good.

[53:16] >> Yeah. Taken care of. Isn't that cool?

[53:19] >> Yeah.

[53:20] >> So, not only is it taken care of, which

[53:22] is more the present experience cuz it's

[53:24] not up to you. And by the way, in the

[53:26] absence of it's up to you, it can't be

[53:28] your fault, right? That helps get rid of

[53:29] the guilt and the shame and the

[53:31] pressure.

[53:32] >> Do you see the correlation of those two?

[53:34] >> Yeah.

[53:34] >> And then if it's you're not going to not

[53:36] be okay because it's a double negative,

[53:38] right? You lived past tense in the I'm

[53:41] not going to be okay. What I'm telling

[53:42] you is you're not not going to be okay.

[53:45] So it dissolves it. It's gone. Oh [ __ ]

[53:48] I can relax. I don't have to keep

[53:50] looking out for worst case scenarios.

[53:53] >> Yeah.

[53:53] >> So not only does it allow you to soften,

[53:55] which is a receiving energy. So things

[53:57] from the future now can start to align.

[53:59] They literally are aligning based on

[54:01] your shift energetically with new

[54:03] possibilities you can't possibly

[54:04] imagine. just like meeting your

[54:06] girlfriend 3 years ago at a Thanksgiving

[54:08] dinner because you're out of the way

[54:10] now. So life is like, "Oh, okay. If

[54:12] you're not worried about all of these

[54:13] worst case pending doomfilled futures,

[54:16] we'll remove those and we'll bring you

[54:18] something that's way more inspiring and

[54:21] contributo, right? So you can just relax

[54:24] and receive. And by the way, if there's

[54:28] nothing to worry about, when you are

[54:30] motivated or you are inspired, your

[54:32] action becomes way more powerful moving

[54:34] forward cuz you're now just on the

[54:36] accelerator when it's appropriate, not

[54:38] on the break at the same time.

[54:40] >> It kind of makes me think of that this

[54:42] idea of create create from a place of

[54:45] inspiration rather than from

[54:46] desperation.

[54:48] >> Yeah. Massive distinction from love of

[54:51] life versus fear of life. And you've

[54:53] been living a very desperate life. It's

[54:55] desperate to think it's all up to you.

[54:56] And it's desperate for for sure to think

[54:59] that you're not going to be okay.

[55:03] >> Totally different human being just

[55:06] through the eradication and the

[55:07] dissolution of these two lies that have

[55:09] been defining you for 30 plus years.

[55:12] >> So do you do you sense a shift from our

[55:14] conversation?

[55:15] >> Subtle. You know, there's a lot of you

[55:17] you you you have lived in this space for

[55:19] so long and there's a real attachment to

[55:21] it. It's going to take you a minute, you

[55:23] know, based on your makeup because part

[55:25] of it's up to you means that you now

[55:27] think it's up to you to figure this all

[55:29] out, too.

[55:31] >> Yeah. Yeah.

[55:33] >> Right. And also, the fear that you're

[55:35] not going to be okay buys into the fear

[55:37] that you're not going to get this right.

[55:39] So, they're both going to be lingering

[55:40] in the background. Right. So, it's going

[55:43] to take a minute for you to really

[55:44] [ __ ] relax, get over yourself, and as

[55:46] I said earlier, pull your head out of

[55:48] your ass and realize, "Oh, I I am the

[55:51] only thing in the way of complete

[55:52] abundance, which is ever present around

[55:55] me."

[55:57] >> So, it's going to take some practice. We

[55:58] start with awareness and then we move

[56:00] into practice. And the practice is going

[56:01] to be like, I don't know if you're at

[56:02] home with your girlfriend, but you go

[56:04] and tell her whatever like you share

[56:06] whatever comes to mind of like, "Honey,

[56:08] you're not going to believe this. you

[56:09] know, I have forever thought it's all up

[56:11] to me. Like, I think it's up to me to

[56:12] take care of you. I think it's up to me

[56:14] to make sure that I have enough money so

[56:15] you don't have to work. And she will

[56:17] probably say something like, "Well,

[56:18] yeah, I know that's what you do all the

[56:20] time

[56:23] cuz they always see it." And I've also

[56:25] been so scared that things aren't going

[56:27] to work out, which creates a massive

[56:28] amount of pressure, which is why I

[56:30] procrastinate and I have avoidant

[56:31] energy. Be like, "Yeah, no, I know that

[56:33] about you. That's why you're always

[56:34] anxious."

[56:36] >> Yeah. So sharing with her and whomever

[56:39] is appropriate will help you to

[56:41] reinforce your own new reality. And then

[56:44] you have to update and say you know what

[56:46] I am so open to life just [ __ ] taking

[56:49] care of details for me. I am so open to

[56:51] life contributing to me out of nowhere.

[56:54] I am not going to live in a place of

[56:56] fear where my future is filled with

[56:58] worst case scenarios. I my future is

[57:01] phenomenal.

[57:03] That's what's going to inspire me.

[57:04] Right? You start to create a new way of

[57:06] relating to who provides abundance and

[57:10] what your future looks like

[57:13] >> and you literally literally will be a

[57:16] different human being. Now are you going

[57:17] to slip back to the old way of thinking?

[57:19] Of course. You know you got just over an

[57:21] hour of me talking to you of which maybe

[57:23] 30 40 minutes was the the revealing part

[57:27] compared to as I said 35 six seven years

[57:30] of you know you thinking life is a

[57:32] certain way. Yeah.

[57:36] >> So, if it's not up to you, because it's

[57:38] not, which opens up receptivity,

[57:41] contribution, and abundance, and you're

[57:44] not not going to be okay, meaning

[57:46] there's nothing to fear.

[57:48] How could you be in the world? How could

[57:50] how could Paul feel as he walks around?

[57:56] >> Well, I could feel, as I as I shared,

[58:00] relaxed. I could feel free. Um,

[58:03] >> I could spread my wings a bit. Um,

[58:06] >> yeah,

[58:07] >> I feel like I would be of better service

[58:11] to the people in my life, to myself, to

[58:13] my clients. Um,

[58:14] >> 100%.

[58:17] >> And those that I love. Yeah. I just

[58:20] Yeah, I think that that's kind of what

[58:23] what comes up for me.

[58:25] >> Great. So, now you get to practice that,

[58:26] right? Because even your anatomy is so

[58:29] trained to be a little tense, to be a

[58:31] little tight because it's up to you.

[58:33] That creates pressure and you're not

[58:35] going to be okay. That creates defense.

[58:37] Both of which energetically anatomically

[58:40] create resistance.

[58:42] >> Yeah.

[58:42] >> So, one of the things for you,

[58:44] particularly if you're in the world of

[58:45] fitness, it will be good, is to shake it

[58:46] all out. like you know whatever that

[58:48] looks like whether it's a boxing class,

[58:49] you go for a run, you do some sprints,

[58:51] you do some crazy workout, hit training,

[58:53] it doesn't really matter to to to loosen

[58:55] your body,

[58:57] >> right?

[58:57] >> To soften because your psychology has

[59:00] seeped into every cell of your body to

[59:02] create resistance and tension.

[59:05] >> Yeah.

[59:05] >> Can you see that?

[59:07] >> Yeah.

[59:07] >> Which is why when you said, "Wow, I can

[59:09] feel like I can breathe easier." Great.

[59:10] We got a semblance. We got a we got a

[59:12] reflection of the softness coming in.

[59:14] You would feel more relaxed. you know,

[59:16] you let out a couple of big exhales.

[59:18] These are all the anatomical reflection

[59:20] of your mind starting to soften, which

[59:22] is what I want to see.

[59:24] >> If you want to accelerate that process

[59:26] or at least continue it and progress it,

[59:28] then you you got to keep softening your

[59:30] body and realize, holy [ __ ] I'm in an

[59:32] abundant universe that is constantly

[59:34] trying to contribute to me. The only

[59:35] thing that's ever got in the way of that

[59:37] is the way that I related to myself and

[59:39] life, and that was a lie.

[59:42] >> Yeah.

[59:44] >> Okay.

[59:45] >> Yeah. So, books and massages as well and

[59:47] that kind of stuff.

[59:48] >> Yeah, massages. Drink lots of water.

[59:51] Flush out all of these old toxins that

[59:53] are associated with constraint.

[59:55] >> And more than anything, lighten up.

[59:58] >> Yeah.

[1:00:00] >> Yeah.

[1:00:00] >> You've been through some heavy stuff. I

[1:00:02] get it. And for that, I have compassion.

[1:00:03] Whether it be with your dad, I get how

[1:00:05] scary that is. Especially when you've

[1:00:06] got competition with brothers either

[1:00:08] side of you. or the middle child

[1:00:10] combined with whatever you had to

[1:00:11] witness with Matt that makes life feel

[1:00:13] so scary, fragile, and precious, which

[1:00:15] again you used as evidence to put more

[1:00:17] pressure on yourself.

[1:00:19] >> And as hard as this is to hear, whatever

[1:00:21] Matt went through was precisely what he

[1:00:23] went through. That was what his soul

[1:00:24] decided it needed.

[1:00:27] >> There's nothing you could have done.

[1:00:28] There's nothing anyone else could have

[1:00:29] done. That's exactly the way he drew up

[1:00:31] his life. So even there, you can find

[1:00:34] some softness and forgive yourself for

[1:00:36] what you think you might have done or

[1:00:37] should have done. It's all it's

[1:00:39] completely erroneous.

[1:00:42] >> Life is unfolding precisely the way it's

[1:00:44] meant to for everyone, including this

[1:00:46] conversation I'm having with you, my

[1:00:47] friend. So, you don't even have to have

[1:00:48] guilt or shame about the way you've been

[1:00:50] living. It's totally fine. But now, now

[1:00:54] with the new awareness, you have the

[1:00:55] opportunity to lighten up, to relax, to

[1:00:57] breathe, and to be open to life

[1:00:59] contributing to you.

[1:01:02] And that is abundance.

[1:01:04] >> Yeah, I I feel that.

[1:01:07] How do I get the the piece right between

[1:01:11] action and allowing though?

[1:01:14] >> Cuz obviously I do need to take some

[1:01:16] action. You know, I can't just

[1:01:18] >> Well, we don't know that. Let's let's

[1:01:19] let's let's just consider you don't have

[1:01:21] to take action. There is some action.

[1:01:23] Sure, you had to go to the Thanksgiving

[1:01:25] party to meet her,

[1:01:26] >> but did you who knows if you'd run into

[1:01:28] her 3 days later in a grocery store by

[1:01:30] accident, you know? Okay. Well, then I

[1:01:32] had to go to the grocery store. Yeah,

[1:01:34] you could fill in the hadto's for

[1:01:35] everything. But what I want you to

[1:01:37] consider, which is such a leap for you,

[1:01:39] is that your life is curated,

[1:01:41] orchestrated precisely for what you

[1:01:43] need. So you can just lighten up and

[1:01:45] relax. You can't [ __ ] it up.

[1:01:50] >> And feel feel in your body. What would

[1:01:52] that be like if there's literally

[1:01:54] nothing that you can do to [ __ ] it up or

[1:01:57] to avoid all of the goodness that is on

[1:01:59] the way to you?

[1:02:02] I know that's so foreign to your nervous

[1:02:04] system, but that's the inquiry for you

[1:02:07] to look at. How would I feel knowing

[1:02:10] that everything that is destined for me

[1:02:13] is on the way.

[1:02:17] My only task is to be present and to

[1:02:19] allow it and to follow my instincts of

[1:02:22] what feels good in the moment of whether

[1:02:24] it's I go to bed early, I go to a party,

[1:02:26] I go to this meeting, I go to the gym,

[1:02:29] like just just let life orchestrate the

[1:02:32] details for you.

[1:02:37] So yes, taking action, but taking action

[1:02:40] that feels in alignment with your

[1:02:43] highest good and then trusting and

[1:02:46] allowing life to contribute the rest.

[1:02:50] That is such a foreign world for you. I

[1:02:52] know and it's going to take some

[1:02:53] practice.

[1:02:54] >> But if you have

[1:02:55] >> I feel like I feel like that message is

[1:02:57] more in my head at the minute and maybe

[1:03:01] it takes some work to integrate into the

[1:03:03] feeling of it.

[1:03:04] >> Of course. Yeah, it's going to take a

[1:03:05] while to sink in below your neck, but

[1:03:08] you've had enough moments where you

[1:03:09] pointed to your chest with the relief

[1:03:10] that you could breathe easier. You've

[1:03:12] had some big exhales. Your shoulders did

[1:03:15] drop. Your body did feel more relaxed.

[1:03:17] So, it is there.

[1:03:19] >> It's just your body is going to

[1:03:21] reference your mind and your mind is

[1:03:23] want to go back to what you've known.

[1:03:25] So, that's the practice is to keep

[1:03:27] letting go of the old conditioning and

[1:03:29] the old programming by realizing it's

[1:03:31] just not true.

[1:03:33] It's just not true that it's up to you.

[1:03:34] Do you play your part? Yes. But it's not

[1:03:36] all up to you. Are you not going to be

[1:03:38] okay? No. That's just not true. How do

[1:03:40] we know that? You're there. I can see

[1:03:42] you.

[1:03:44] >> Right.

[1:03:45] >> Yeah.

[1:03:46] >> So to start to live in the truth of we

[1:03:48] don't know what's going to happen. But

[1:03:49] stop filling the I don't know with worst

[1:03:51] case scenarios.

[1:03:54] >> Got it.

[1:03:55] >> Okay. That's a different world, isn't

[1:03:57] it?

[1:03:58] >> Yeah, definitely. I I recently went away

[1:04:01] for like 3 weeks and I think that

[1:04:04] experience of just not focusing on goals

[1:04:06] and work and whatever else was it felt

[1:04:09] so good. I just felt like I needed it

[1:04:11] which is kind of I think what how you

[1:04:13] were saying just to be living every day

[1:04:15] anyway.

[1:04:16] >> Yes. And then you don't need to go away

[1:04:18] because you're living in an abundant

[1:04:19] vacation type world which is called life

[1:04:21] itself.

[1:04:23] >> Yeah.

[1:04:24] >> Yeah. Awesome. So, you've already got an

[1:04:26] example of that recently of what that

[1:04:28] felt like to just let go of the control,

[1:04:30] to let go of the fear, to let go of the

[1:04:33] need to make things happen.

[1:04:35] >> Yeah.

[1:04:36] >> Okay.

[1:04:39] >> Yeah. It's going to take it's going to

[1:04:41] take some uh some practice, but I'm uh

[1:04:44] I'm definitely on board with this and I

[1:04:46] really appreciate you helping me uh see

[1:04:49] some of those blind spots and shift some

[1:04:51] stuff around.

[1:04:53] >> Yeah, you're welcome, mate. And again it

[1:04:54] is but you know

[1:04:57] you don't know how long and you don't

[1:04:59] know how hard right so just even that

[1:05:01] you just want to keep letting go of not

[1:05:03] knowing right you didn't know that this

[1:05:05] was going to be the conversation we had

[1:05:06] you had maybe some sort of semblance of

[1:05:09] hope or thought that I might be able to

[1:05:11] point out a blind spot but you didn't

[1:05:13] know this is what was going to happen

[1:05:14] right

[1:05:15] >> exactly and you know I was in bed last

[1:05:19] night struggling to sleep because I was

[1:05:20] excited and worried about this

[1:05:22] conversation I was like What? Yeah. Just

[1:05:24] the fear of the unknown.

[1:05:26] >> Um Yeah.

[1:05:27] >> Yeah. Which isn't the fear of the

[1:05:29] unknown. It's the fear of your part,

[1:05:31] which is you're not going to be okay.

[1:05:32] Like you might not get what you want

[1:05:34] from Peter Cone. It might not work out.

[1:05:35] What if he doesn't help me? All of

[1:05:37] that's the fear.

[1:05:38] >> Yeah.

[1:05:39] >> This was more the unknown, which is that

[1:05:41] I pointed out something you couldn't

[1:05:42] see.

[1:05:44] >> Yeah.

[1:05:44] >> That's the good part. So again, there's

[1:05:46] more evidence. So when you stop trying

[1:05:47] to figure it all out and let life show

[1:05:49] you something you can't anticipate, it

[1:05:51] works out.

[1:05:53] You see?

[1:05:54] >> Yeah.

[1:05:54] >> You become way too smart to figure [ __ ]

[1:05:56] out.

[1:05:58] >> Yeah.

[1:05:59] >> You know, this is one of my quotes for

[1:06:01] you that will make sense. I say, "Being

[1:06:04] smart doesn't make you any happier. It

[1:06:07] just makes your reasons why you're not

[1:06:09] way more convincing."

[1:06:13] >> Neither.

[1:06:14] >> Do you get that?

[1:06:16] >> Yeah. Stupid people do all sorts of [ __ ]

[1:06:18] that they shouldn't do because they

[1:06:19] don't think about the ramifications or

[1:06:21] the consequences.

[1:06:23] >> So, you would benefit from dumbing down

[1:06:25] a bit. Of course, it's not going to

[1:06:27] actually happen, but to stop trying to

[1:06:29] figure it all out, be a little bit more,

[1:06:32] you know, quote unquote uh oblivious and

[1:06:35] and let life surprise you.

[1:06:39] >> Okay.

[1:06:40] >> Yeah, that'll be my uh practice.

[1:06:42] >> That is your homework. Stop knowing so

[1:06:44] much.

[1:06:46] So it certainly saves you time from

[1:06:48] having to do more [ __ ] courses and

[1:06:49] learning [ __ ]

[1:06:51] >> Yeah.

[1:06:53] >> Listen, Paul, such a pleasure to be with

[1:06:54] you. I appreciate your vulnerability.

[1:06:56] Certainly sharing, you know, some of

[1:06:58] these very difficult experiences

[1:07:00] certainly with your friend Matt and even

[1:07:02] as a kid with your dad. You know, these

[1:07:03] are scary things for a kid and certainly

[1:07:05] for you to share. Uh I appreciate your

[1:07:07] generosity and your contribution to me

[1:07:10] and the people who get to watch this and

[1:07:12] listen. uh because I promise you there

[1:07:14] are millions of people who have the same

[1:07:16] kind of constraints that you've shared

[1:07:18] and hopefully through you you've already

[1:07:20] started to make a help by helping them

[1:07:21] see that they're not truths and that

[1:07:23] they too can live from a place of

[1:07:25] freedom and let life contribute to them

[1:07:26] effortlessly too. So thank you for for

[1:07:29] your generosity

[1:07:31] of course and I appreciate uh you taking

[1:07:34] the time to help me and uh that was one

[1:07:36] of my other goals with this. I wanted to

[1:07:38] help more people. I'm sure there's going

[1:07:40] to be some others that can relate to it.

[1:07:41] So, thank you again.

[1:07:43] >> Just real briefly, um I wanted to ask

[1:07:46] you just cuz your your perspective and

[1:07:48] your background, do you

[1:07:51] >> what would you advise me in terms of and

[1:07:53] I know I don't want to be doing more

[1:07:54] now, but with the transition into kind

[1:07:57] of the mindset stuff from fitness, do

[1:07:59] you have any kind of just advice about

[1:08:02] that kind of path of of how we might

[1:08:05] approach things?

[1:08:07] >> Absolutely. Based on what we just

[1:08:08] shared, don't even think about it for a

[1:08:10] while.

[1:08:11] >> Okay.

[1:08:13] >> Yeah. Cuz that's strengthening or

[1:08:15] continuing to use the muscle where

[1:08:17] you're trying to figure it out. You

[1:08:19] know, you don't know that in 10 days

[1:08:20] somebody says, "Hey, you know, I watched

[1:08:22] your Instagram clip or I don't know what

[1:08:23] you have out there in the world." And

[1:08:25] they're like, "Would you be open to like

[1:08:26] just doing a coaching session with me?"

[1:08:29] >> I I you know, they're the kind of things

[1:08:30] that happen.

[1:08:32] >> Yeah.

[1:08:32] >> When you're open and not trying to

[1:08:34] figure it out. So for now, your only job

[1:08:36] is to not know, is to relax, to have a

[1:08:39] little bit more fun, to be responsible

[1:08:42] for your real wellness, not your

[1:08:43] physical, you know, sculpted wellness of

[1:08:46] your body. I'm sure you're in great

[1:08:48] shape, but more energetically to be

[1:08:50] relaxed, to be open, to be receiving,

[1:08:52] and let life contri contribute to you.

[1:08:55] So, for now, I would at least take a

[1:08:57] week off uh of trying to figure anything

[1:08:59] out about a transition or what you're

[1:09:01] meant to do or any of that and just let

[1:09:03] life surprise you.

[1:09:05] >> Okay.

[1:09:06] >> Okay.

[1:09:07] >> Yeah. Homework accepted.

[1:09:09] >> Homework is don't do anything.

[1:09:11] >> Yeah.

[1:09:13] >> Okay.

[1:09:14] >> What a great assignment that is. I

[1:09:16] guarantee you every student around the

[1:09:18] world is I wish I had a teacher like

[1:09:19] Peter Cron who told me my homework is to

[1:09:21] do jack [ __ ] Definitely.

[1:09:24] >> You're going to do stuff, but you know

[1:09:25] what I mean.

[1:09:26] >> Yeah.

[1:09:26] >> Okay.

[1:09:27] >> I appreciate it, Peter. Thank you so

[1:09:29] much. I'm extremely grateful.

[1:09:31] >> It's a pleasure to be with you, mate. I

[1:09:33] look forward to catching up and uh to

[1:09:35] hear hopefully, you know, a little bit

[1:09:36] more fun, a lot better breathing, and

[1:09:38] maybe some surprise contributions from

[1:09:41] life.

[1:09:42] >> Yeah, of course. Likewise.

[1:09:45] Before we do our 30-day check-in, I just

[1:09:47] wanted to remind you to check out some

[1:10:16] [Music]

[1:10:18] I'm just really curious in this

[1:10:20] follow-up just to see how you've been,

[1:10:22] things that you've realized, maybe some

[1:10:24] different patterns that you've noticed

[1:10:25] or behaviors that you've experienced,

[1:10:27] and obviously if you have any other

[1:10:29] questions based on what we discussed.

[1:10:32] >> Yeah, absolutely. I mean, firstly, uh I

[1:10:35] mean, I didn't really have the time to

[1:10:36] thank you enough, Peter. Honestly, I'm

[1:10:38] extremely grateful having the chance to

[1:10:42] uh have that one-on-one interaction was

[1:10:44] amazing. Um, and on reflection, I think

[1:10:47] at the time I was very nervous. I felt

[1:10:50] after our call, I don't get sweaty much,

[1:10:53] but my armpits were drenched. And I

[1:10:55] don't I don't know if it was just like

[1:10:58] uh just my body releasing stuff or if I

[1:11:00] was just, you know, as a combination of

[1:11:02] things. Um,

[1:11:04] >> yeah, I uh I guess I have that effect on

[1:11:06] people.

[1:11:07] >> Yeah. It means I was like, "Oh, I don't

[1:11:10] have to work out now. I can just talk to

[1:11:11] Peter and I was going to get my

[1:11:13] benefits."

[1:11:13] >> Yeah. just have an emotional workout.

[1:11:15] >> Um but yeah, no I I think on reflection

[1:11:19] it was it was really powerful like I

[1:11:21] haven't had uh any you know physical

[1:11:24] changes in my in my life uh with regards

[1:11:27] to the outcomes that I wanted

[1:11:29] >> but I did take your your suggestions to

[1:11:33] you know basically just not do stuff for

[1:11:35] a while and stop trying to do too much.

[1:11:38] Um, which which has been nice. And

[1:11:41] >> I think the biggest thing I found is

[1:11:44] that

[1:11:45] your the conversation that we had the

[1:11:48] the blind spots that you helped me see,

[1:11:51] I think the two the two main ones were

[1:11:53] the um it's all up to me and um you

[1:11:56] know, I'm not going to be okay in the

[1:11:58] future. Something bad is going to

[1:11:59] happen.

[1:11:59] >> Yeah.

[1:12:00] >> And

[1:12:01] >> exactly. I think really um some of the

[1:12:05] other stuff that I've been interested in

[1:12:08] uh in the spiritual kind of realm, I've

[1:12:11] started seeing a lot more patterns of

[1:12:13] things that you were saying and I

[1:12:15] actually didn't mention I don't think

[1:12:16] but several years ago I chatted with

[1:12:19] Abraham Hicks. I went in the hot seat

[1:12:21] and a message at the time was actually

[1:12:24] uh I think the struggle I had was living

[1:12:27] in the present moment and I think the

[1:12:29] message that you gave me and that

[1:12:31] Abraham Hicks gave me was very similar

[1:12:33] and then I'm starting to see these

[1:12:35] patterns in,

[1:12:36] >> you know, lots of the spiritual uh

[1:12:38] teachings. Um so yeah, I I think there's

[1:12:42] a lot you know a lot there. Um, and

[1:12:46] really I think you you said to me

[1:12:49] something like more than anything to

[1:12:50] lighten up and I was like, yeah, you

[1:12:52] know, I I'm a bit I can be in that

[1:12:54] energy sometimes where I'm thinking

[1:12:56] about the current situation or I'm

[1:12:58] thinking about my problems or I'm

[1:13:00] thinking about the past and it's just

[1:13:01] like it's just a croc of [ __ ] you know?

[1:13:03] It doesn't have any influence on my

[1:13:05] future really. So just getting out of

[1:13:08] that I think the biggest takeaway was

[1:13:10] just

[1:13:11] >> getting out of that head space and

[1:13:12] honestly like doing whatever I'm doing

[1:13:14] if I'm playing football or if I'm you

[1:13:16] know going out in nature somewhere or

[1:13:18] whatever to lighten my mood and to feel

[1:13:20] better and then to not be so focused on

[1:13:24] >> trying to force change. Um and then

[1:13:27] really like tapping into the universal

[1:13:29] supply. Uh not using my own mind to look

[1:13:32] at my existing reality. Just trusting

[1:13:34] cuz you had shared with me,

[1:13:36] >> you know, it cracked me up when you said

[1:13:38] about the examples of making my

[1:13:41] fingernails grow themselves and you know

[1:13:43] consciously digesting my food and stuff

[1:13:45] cuz it's it's it's ridiculous really. So

[1:13:49] yeah, no no no like massive changes in

[1:13:51] my physical environment, but I

[1:13:53] definitely think there's more awareness

[1:13:54] and some insights and I'm probably more

[1:13:56] at a point now where I'm looking to uh

[1:13:59] embody some of these on a deeper level.

[1:14:01] Uh whatever that looks like. Um but

[1:14:03] those are just some kind of thoughts

[1:14:04] that have come up since our

[1:14:06] conversation.

[1:14:07] >> I love it. And whilst, you know, I I

[1:14:11] love the candidness, I love the honesty,

[1:14:14] and whilst it might seem, as you said,

[1:14:15] that there aren't any drastic changes in

[1:14:18] your physical circumstances,

[1:14:20] I would say they pale in comparison

[1:14:23] anyway to the changes in your internal

[1:14:25] terrain, right? So if you're to use your

[1:14:29] correct medical term, a croc of [ __ ]

[1:14:33] you know, recognizing how much you were

[1:14:36] just attending to your own thoughts,

[1:14:38] worried about things, trying to control

[1:14:40] things. Like I think for myself with the

[1:14:44] work that I've done here now for two and

[1:14:45] a half decades with people, there is so

[1:14:48] much more value to be had by a change in

[1:14:50] your inner experience of life than there

[1:14:53] is in your circumstances. Right? Like

[1:14:55] I've worked with I don't know close to

[1:14:58] 15 20 billionaires at this point. So you

[1:15:00] could argue that their circumstances are

[1:15:02] quintessentially perfect ideal but they

[1:15:05] don't have peace. You know they still

[1:15:07] struggle with anxiety, frustration,

[1:15:09] anger, depression, broken relationships,

[1:15:13] children that you know have ended up

[1:15:15] addicted to substances. Like there's all

[1:15:18] sorts of suffering, right?

[1:15:19] >> Yeah. So what I love and this is going

[1:15:21] to be your next

[1:15:23] opportunity is that the term I use is

[1:15:26] frequency precedes form, right? So

[1:15:29] meaning as Paul changes his internal

[1:15:32] vibration, then okay, it maybe isn't

[1:15:35] instantaneous or perhaps at the speed

[1:15:37] that we sometimes want or that you want,

[1:15:39] but it is nonetheless going to happen.

[1:15:42] Meaning you keep staying in that lighter

[1:15:44] frame of mind where you're more present.

[1:15:46] So you're less preoccupied with trying

[1:15:48] to control things, trying to, you know,

[1:15:51] believe that it's all up to you, as we

[1:15:52] discussed, or as the default setting for

[1:15:54] most people's brains is worried about a

[1:15:56] future outcome that hasn't happened yet,

[1:15:58] meaning, you know, that you're not going

[1:15:59] to be okay. When all of that just

[1:16:01] dissipates and you truly embody where

[1:16:04] you are and you focus on what you're

[1:16:06] doing from a place of presence and

[1:16:09] peace, then you will have power to

[1:16:12] influence life. You just will. Um, and

[1:16:16] life will meet you there. As opposed to

[1:16:19] you constantly reinforcing the internal

[1:16:21] energy of lack or scarcity, which is the

[1:16:24] precursor to worrying about a future

[1:16:27] that hasn't happened yet. Right? If you

[1:16:28] knew that your life worked out and that

[1:16:31] all of the success that we talked about

[1:16:33] that you want to establish was going to

[1:16:36] happen, you know that you would feel a

[1:16:40] sense of peace, a sense of calm, a sense

[1:16:42] of confidence, right? And so that's the

[1:16:44] energy that we want to continue to

[1:16:45] harness to strengthen because that is

[1:16:48] the precursor to those events

[1:16:50] transpiring. Does that make sense?

[1:16:52] >> Yeah, absolutely. It's it's kind of like

[1:16:55] when people think when I have this thing

[1:16:58] then I will feel this way. Whereas

[1:17:01] actually from I think you what you teach

[1:17:04] and um I'm seeing some of the patterns

[1:17:06] now because of a conversation is that

[1:17:09] actually focus on those thoughts and

[1:17:11] feelings now and then go through your

[1:17:14] day-to-day life and then that's probably

[1:17:16] as a byproduct those things are more

[1:17:17] likely to happen because it's an

[1:17:19] energetic shift

[1:17:20] >> 100%. That's the process of creation,

[1:17:23] right? A very simple sort of tagline

[1:17:26] that a lot of people may have heard

[1:17:27] before as it relates to creation is be,

[1:17:29] do, have, right? And

[1:17:31] >> most people have it the other way

[1:17:32] around, have, do, be, which, which is if

[1:17:34] I have what I want, then I can, you

[1:17:35] know, if I have more money or if I have

[1:17:37] the partner, then I can do the things

[1:17:39] that I really am committed to and then I

[1:17:41] can be happy. Right? And it's a very

[1:17:44] simple breakdown. And so the way that we

[1:17:46] feel to use your terms the the internal

[1:17:49] terrain of who we be as human beings is

[1:17:53] what drives what we do. And then as a

[1:17:56] byproduct of that we get what we have

[1:17:58] right. So if your who if who Paul was

[1:18:01] being before was nervous and stressed

[1:18:04] and controlling then the things you do

[1:18:06] had to be an extension of that and

[1:18:08] therefore you had the life that you had.

[1:18:10] >> Yeah. the more that you can embrace Paul

[1:18:13] being free, confident, at peace,

[1:18:15] present, you know, joyous, loving,

[1:18:18] powerful. If you know, these are the

[1:18:20] qualities that you exude, then it's it's

[1:18:24] a natural extension that your

[1:18:26] communication and your actions are going

[1:18:28] to be commensurate with that energy and

[1:18:30] therefore the results have to reflect

[1:18:32] that. Do you understand?

[1:18:33] >> Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. And most people

[1:18:35] because of the default setting of the

[1:18:37] brain, you know, have it the other way

[1:18:38] around, which is this sort of one day

[1:18:40] phenomenon when, as you said, I get

[1:18:42] whatever it is that I think I I think I

[1:18:44] want because what we think we want isn't

[1:18:46] what we want. We actually want the

[1:18:48] experience internally of what we think

[1:18:51] having that item will give us, right?

[1:18:53] It's not if I gave someone like a

[1:18:55] million bucks in a suitcase or a duffel

[1:18:57] bag and, you know, locked them in a in a

[1:18:59] staircase, you know, underneath a

[1:19:01] staircase in a cupboard, they're not

[1:19:03] going to be very happy. But but wait,

[1:19:05] what's your problem, mate? You got the

[1:19:06] you've got the million million bucks,

[1:19:08] you know. So, it's the idea of what

[1:19:11] something like that would give us as an

[1:19:12] experience. So what I love for you is

[1:19:14] that you've got the smarts, you've got

[1:19:16] the intelligence, you've obviously

[1:19:17] dabbled with other forms of teaching to

[1:19:21] recognize that oh the more you shift

[1:19:23] internally, the more you have a

[1:19:25] different way of relating to yourself

[1:19:26] and life, then everything else will just

[1:19:28] fall in alignment with that. And that's

[1:19:31] that's the power of creation. Otherwise,

[1:19:33] what I want people to understand is it's

[1:19:35] actually a form of reaction, right? So

[1:19:38] what we just delineated there, you shift

[1:19:40] your internal terrain that changes the

[1:19:42] way that you feel, act, and then the

[1:19:44] results you get. Whereas most people

[1:19:45] it's reactive, right? It's they're

[1:19:47] waiting for something. Well, I'll react

[1:19:50] when fill in the blank happens, which is

[1:19:52] the old expression of seeing is

[1:19:53] believing, which we've all heard.

[1:19:55] >> Yeah.

[1:19:55] >> But I I I I kind of adorn that with my

[1:19:59] own extension, which is Yeah. Seeing is

[1:20:01] believing is also called waiting,

[1:20:03] >> right? because then you're in the victim

[1:20:05] mindset of like okay I'll I'll believe

[1:20:07] it when I see it.

[1:20:09] >> Conversely for me it's like believing is

[1:20:11] seeing which is called creating right so

[1:20:14] believing that your life works out

[1:20:16] believing that you will in your own

[1:20:18] definition of success become successful

[1:20:21] is the energetic precursor to the

[1:20:23] thoughts feelings and actions that then

[1:20:25] will lead to whatever your version of

[1:20:27] success is.

[1:20:28] >> Yeah, absolutely. I I don't know if it's

[1:20:31] because um I've never considered myself

[1:20:33] to be like a religious person really um

[1:20:36] yeah in the sense of

[1:20:37] >> and you know no no disrespect to any of

[1:20:40] these uh types of people but when I

[1:20:43] think of the energy of you know like the

[1:20:44] Gary Ve's the the Grant Cardones that

[1:20:47] that kind of do energy that is um that

[1:20:53] that's coming from like the place of

[1:20:55] force. Um anyway, I don't I don't want

[1:20:57] to distract what I was going to say

[1:20:59] about the religion thing, but what I was

[1:21:01] trying to get at is that I because I

[1:21:03] haven't had that um

[1:21:06] >> that religious or something, let's say

[1:21:08] someone to look up to, I thought maybe

[1:21:10] it's it's up to me, which was one of the

[1:21:12] things before, but it's the some of the

[1:21:14] awareness has now come around like yes,

[1:21:16] I've got an interest towards

[1:21:18] spirituality, but maybe not so much, you

[1:21:20] know, traditional religion or whatever.

[1:21:22] But the the understanding of the

[1:21:24] something out there that is bigger than

[1:21:25] me, that's more powerful than me, the

[1:21:27] universal mind, whatever you want to put

[1:21:28] on it.

[1:21:29] >> And so allowing I think tap that that's

[1:21:34] almost a comfort in itself knowing okay

[1:21:36] just just focus on shifting my internal

[1:21:39] state and then trust that things will

[1:21:41] happen. and I might meet someone at the

[1:21:42] right time like when I'm at my

[1:21:44] girlfriend or I might you know have a

[1:21:46] conversation or whatever

[1:21:48] >> and then that feels like the path of uh

[1:21:50] as some of them would say least

[1:21:52] resistance but then going back on to

[1:21:54] what I was mentioning about these other

[1:21:55] types of uh people that I follow and I I

[1:21:57] definitely value some of their stuff

[1:21:59] perspective sometimes but a lot of that

[1:22:02] energy and maybe that's where the seeds

[1:22:04] were planted that you've got to do more

[1:22:06] you got to get more reps in you've got

[1:22:07] to work you know 14 hours a day um Yeah.

[1:22:11] >> And so there there's I think there's

[1:22:13] that balance between the two. There's

[1:22:15] there's obviously some work involved,

[1:22:16] but there's also it's it's not from the

[1:22:19] energy that I was coming from before.

[1:22:21] >> 100%. Yeah. I mean, it's beautifully

[1:22:23] articulated and I'm with you. I I really

[1:22:27] admire and I find inspiration from

[1:22:29] different religions and I pull many of

[1:22:31] the tenants and the principles that I

[1:22:34] think align with my own perspective.

[1:22:36] Yeah.

[1:22:36] >> But I'm not, you know, religious per se.

[1:22:39] So I would say I'm much more in the camp

[1:22:41] of spirituality. I think religion can

[1:22:43] sometimes divide whereas I think

[1:22:44] spirituality is more inclined to unite.

[1:22:48] Um so I lean into what I call trust

[1:22:51] versus faith. Right? Faith you could say

[1:22:54] is in a dogma in a religion which is all

[1:22:56] great. Uh mine is more trust in perhaps

[1:22:59] consciousness the absolute or the

[1:23:00] universe. Uh pick your poison. It's

[1:23:03] fine. Um, but I think what it does to

[1:23:06] your point is it it gets us out of this

[1:23:10] separate individualized independent

[1:23:13] mindset where everything's incumbent

[1:23:15] upon us. Right. So that's that's where

[1:23:18] you can kind of as you just did almost,

[1:23:20] you know, on Q relax your shoulders a

[1:23:22] little bit and go, "Oh, okay. Um, I

[1:23:26] don't have to do this all by myself."

[1:23:27] You know, there are greater forces and

[1:23:29] bigger intelligences at play here that

[1:23:31] even I, you know, Peter Cone with my own

[1:23:35] intuition and intelligence and and

[1:23:38] perception can't can't fathom. And it's

[1:23:40] actually quite comforting because I

[1:23:42] don't want to have to figure it out. I

[1:23:44] don't want to have to know. Um, and that

[1:23:47] that does then allow me to sort of

[1:23:49] surrender and relax so that even when

[1:23:51] things don't seem to go my way

[1:23:53] subjectively, there's a deeper knowing

[1:23:55] inside of me that actually uh they are

[1:23:59] going my way. I just don't know how this

[1:24:01] particularly, you know, unfolds just yet

[1:24:03] and allow myself to be surprised that

[1:24:06] what I thought I wanted not actually

[1:24:09] happening is the best thing that could

[1:24:11] have occurred. Right. And we've all had

[1:24:12] that experience.

[1:24:13] >> Absolutely. So it reminds me of my very

[1:24:16] early days getting into this showing my

[1:24:18] age, you know, uh when I was in college.

[1:24:21] Um I sat with a friend of mine called

[1:24:23] Guy and we would you know wax lyrical,

[1:24:27] sit under trees and do all of the sort

[1:24:29] of you know the kumbaya stuff of asking

[1:24:31] those big questions of why are we here?

[1:24:34] What's the meaning of life? And um and

[1:24:37] it was just it just led to so many

[1:24:38] beautiful conversations which I'm so

[1:24:40] grateful for and kind of created the

[1:24:42] foundation for who I became without me

[1:24:44] even knowing what I was doing back in

[1:24:46] the day. But nonetheless, it led to some

[1:24:48] pretty fun philosophical questions. And

[1:24:50] I'll always remember he said uh this

[1:24:53] quote and he wasn't religious either, so

[1:24:55] it wasn't like a dedication to a

[1:24:57] particular god figure, but he said um

[1:25:00] yes, believe in Allah, but tie up your

[1:25:03] camels,

[1:25:04] >> right? And and that really spoke to what

[1:25:07] you just shared as far as I'm concerned,

[1:25:08] like you know, have faith, have trust in

[1:25:10] in Allah, Jesus, Shiva, you know,

[1:25:13] Muhammad, whoever it is that you want to

[1:25:15] believe in. Um, but you know, take care

[1:25:18] of the the things that you can take care

[1:25:20] of, right? Like, you know, don't be

[1:25:22] complacent, don't be lazy, don't be

[1:25:24] irresponsible. And so that to me uh

[1:25:27] speaks to the co-creation experience

[1:25:29] that it is to be human, right? is to

[1:25:31] okay I'm I'm not separate from the whole

[1:25:35] um but I'm equally not the whole and nor

[1:25:38] am I um in any way discarded by the

[1:25:42] whole right so we are we could argue

[1:25:44] that who we are

[1:25:47] uh as an accumulation of beings we

[1:25:50] represent the whole right so like a wave

[1:25:53] on the ocean is not separate to the

[1:25:54] ocean and it's not the entire ocean but

[1:25:56] it's nonetheless an aspect of the ocean

[1:25:59] and So there's the I'll do my part as

[1:26:03] best as I can whilst knowing that

[1:26:04] there's a much bigger force at play

[1:26:07] which I am both influencing but also

[1:26:10] influenced more importantly by. Does

[1:26:13] that make sense?

[1:26:13] >> Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah. So I mean it

[1:26:16] makes me the obvious one is the law of

[1:26:18] gravity. Like you know I I trust that

[1:26:21] things are going to work out but I'm not

[1:26:23] going to try and defy the laws of

[1:26:25] gravity and like jump out of a plane or

[1:26:27] something and hope that I'm going to be

[1:26:28] okay. Yeah. See, that's where we're

[1:26:30] different. I'm still trying to overcome

[1:26:31] that one.

[1:26:32] >> Oh, yeah. Bit of an extreme example, but

[1:26:35] Yeah.

[1:26:36] >> No, no, I get it. I mean, that to me is

[1:26:38] about the only thing that I'll I'll

[1:26:41] succumb to at this point, you know. I

[1:26:43] think everything else in terms of

[1:26:45] people's woes and fears and limitations,

[1:26:47] I think, can be transcended. But, you

[1:26:49] know, gravity, that's that's pretty

[1:26:50] stubborn.

[1:26:51] >> Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah.

[1:26:54] >> Yeah. Amazing. Well, Paul, I don't know

[1:26:57] if I don't know if you had anything else

[1:26:58] to ask or to share, but I I love I mean,

[1:27:02] look, you've got a big heart. You're

[1:27:03] obviously super smart. I I can feel the

[1:27:05] shift in your energy in terms of the

[1:27:07] relaxation, not trying to control

[1:27:08] everything. Uh it sounds like you

[1:27:11] without being there as a fly on the wall

[1:27:13] of your life. I'm going to, you know,

[1:27:15] I'm going to guess that you might have

[1:27:16] had a little bit more joy, a little bit

[1:27:18] more relaxation in your life since we've

[1:27:20] spoken, maybe um a lot less stress and

[1:27:24] tension. And as you said, force. Um, I

[1:27:26] love that distinction. Just for the

[1:27:28] listeners, one of the things that I do

[1:27:29] with all of my professional athletes,

[1:27:32] um, I ask them to say the following

[1:27:34] statement. I ask them to say, "I am

[1:27:36] forceful." So they say, "I'm forceful."

[1:27:39] And then I ask them, "How does that feel

[1:27:40] in your body?" And invariably, you know,

[1:27:42] the majority of responses are in the in

[1:27:45] the realm of um, it feels tight. I feel

[1:27:49] tension. It feels like I'm trying to

[1:27:50] make something happen. I'm pushing. And

[1:27:54] that that's of course you know the

[1:27:56] experience I want them to have. So

[1:27:58] that's I would say is that Paul prior to

[1:28:00] our conversation was very forceful

[1:28:02] right? It comes from a place really of

[1:28:03] fear and scarcity and lack and

[1:28:05] separation which drives the inclination

[1:28:08] to try and want to control things.

[1:28:10] Everyone can relate to that. But then I

[1:28:12] ask my athletes to say I am powerful.

[1:28:15] And what does that feel like? So they

[1:28:17] say I am powerful. And they immediately

[1:28:19] you it's almost like their posture

[1:28:21] changes. They sit up a little bit.

[1:28:22] They're like, "I feel calm. I feel

[1:28:25] confident. I feel no matter what

[1:28:27] happens, I can handle it. Um that I am

[1:28:31] held by a greater force of some kind.

[1:28:35] That I, you know, I can influence life

[1:28:37] in a way that isn't dominating, that

[1:28:40] isn't, you know, abusive, that isn't uh

[1:28:43] trying to get my own way. um but rather

[1:28:46] I feel like I am truly making a

[1:28:48] difference and I have the power to um

[1:28:52] consciously create the life that I want.

[1:28:54] And so I feel for you and just to help

[1:28:57] you with that distinction, you're going

[1:28:58] from a very forceful perspective to one

[1:29:01] that is more powerful where yes, you

[1:29:04] still have your aspirations and your

[1:29:05] goals, which is amazing, but there's a

[1:29:07] degree of surrender, which I know can

[1:29:10] sound counterintuitive, but actually

[1:29:11] it's not where we let go. You know, I'm

[1:29:14] again using a religious expression where

[1:29:16] we let go and let God, right? So kind of

[1:29:19] we get out of the way, let the universe

[1:29:21] do its part. um where yes, we have a

[1:29:25] certain degree of maybe steering like a

[1:29:28] boat on a river or surfing on a wave.

[1:29:31] The energy, the real force is life and

[1:29:33] we do the best we can to navigate that

[1:29:36] um by steering consciously in the

[1:29:38] direction that we want to go.

[1:29:41] >> Yeah, that was beautifully put. Yeah,

[1:29:43] that makes sense.

[1:29:44] >> Yeah. So, that's what I see for you, my

[1:29:46] friend. You know, you you've obviously

[1:29:48] got

[1:29:49] >> beautiful aspirations and and I I love

[1:29:51] that. And um and I really appreciate the

[1:29:54] kind words at the beginning. It's uh

[1:29:56] never lost on me how um how many people

[1:29:59] want to have these kind of conversations

[1:30:01] who hopefully listening in right now who

[1:30:04] want to you know spend time with me

[1:30:06] whether it's you know over a relaxing

[1:30:10] fruit type beverage or on a podcast and

[1:30:13] and just sort of chip away at some of

[1:30:15] their constraints and suffering. And uh

[1:30:17] that's certainly my commitment here as

[1:30:19] you know as part of my work to help

[1:30:21] people transcend the constraints with

[1:30:23] which they arrive so that they also can

[1:30:25] find some more freedom. So thank you for

[1:30:27] the kind words. Thank you for your

[1:30:28] contribution to this podcast where

[1:30:31] people get to listen to your story. And

[1:30:32] I'm sure there's millions of people who

[1:30:34] can relate to where you were and as a

[1:30:38] byproduct of your vulnerability and your

[1:30:40] courage. Hopefully, there's also

[1:30:42] millions now who have relaxed and they

[1:30:44] can lean into just the power of being

[1:30:47] present and understanding that their

[1:30:50] life is taken care of in ways that they

[1:30:52] don't fully understand. And that can

[1:30:54] give them a greater sense of trust. So,

[1:30:57] um it's just just great to have

[1:30:59] conversations like this with people like

[1:31:00] you, my friend.

[1:31:02] >> Yeah, absolutely. No, I appreciate it.

[1:31:04] Peter, I I think the the a question that

[1:31:06] comes to me uh kind of on that really is

[1:31:09] thinking of other people uh and even

[1:31:12] myself maybe a little bit. But, you

[1:31:15] know, the the awareness was the first

[1:31:17] piece which we spoke about last time and

[1:31:19] I've been kind of reflecting on some of

[1:31:21] that. I think the challenge for many

[1:31:23] people including myself is

[1:31:26] >> in the world we live in where you know

[1:31:29] with social media the different things

[1:31:30] on the news and everything um is what do

[1:31:34] you may maybe I'm doing the right things

[1:31:36] now from what I've shared with you but

[1:31:38] what would be you know like going to the

[1:31:40] gym you want to go three times a week

[1:31:42] four times a week whatever consistently

[1:31:44] to build up your body what would be what

[1:31:46] would be the energetic

[1:31:49] >> work to be doing Um, is it just

[1:31:52] following what feels good in the moment?

[1:31:54] Is it to do some kind of mental, you

[1:31:57] know, visualization or meditation? I'm

[1:31:59] just curious like what's your kind of

[1:32:01] top recommendation for people when

[1:32:03] you're looking at the bills that you've

[1:32:05] got to pay or, you know, you're late for

[1:32:07] work or whatever it might be that's

[1:32:09] happening in the world, right? Just

[1:32:11] what's like a mental kind of um practice

[1:32:14] you you would recommend? That that's

[1:32:16] really the only question I have for you.

[1:32:18] >> It's a great question, my friend. Um,

[1:32:20] and I really appreciate your dedication

[1:32:22] to, you know, wanting to, um, embody

[1:32:25] this, um, integrate it and and live from

[1:32:28] this energy because it is, um, it's

[1:32:32] super fulfilling. You know, I feel like

[1:32:33] I'm one of the most blessed men alive

[1:32:35] just by virtue of the fact that I get to

[1:32:36] understand these distinctions and

[1:32:38] practice them very readily. Yeah.

[1:32:40] >> And effortlessly. So, yeah, just akin

[1:32:43] to, as you said, going to the gym,

[1:32:44] taking care of your body, then you want

[1:32:45] to take care of your mind. So, let's

[1:32:47] look at the basics, right? what are what

[1:32:49] are some of the ways you can take care

[1:32:50] of your mind? You know, there are the

[1:32:52] anatomical

[1:32:54] u practices which is good sleep, you

[1:32:56] know, good food that is for cognitive

[1:32:58] health. Obviously, avoiding toxicity um

[1:33:01] especially, you know, in the food that

[1:33:03] we eat are unfortunately a lot of these

[1:33:04] GMO foods and stuff that's covered in

[1:33:06] glyphosates. So, you want to take care

[1:33:08] of your brain, right? So, that's just on

[1:33:11] the practical side. Then as a practice

[1:33:13] in terms of like learning to really

[1:33:16] embody these principles of freedom, you

[1:33:18] know, love, possibility, they're sort of

[1:33:20] the three main pillars of my work. Um it

[1:33:24] might seem counterintuitive,

[1:33:26] but you want to discover where you're

[1:33:27] not free, right? Because if you can find

[1:33:30] out where you're not free, then there's

[1:33:32] an access to some freedom on the other

[1:33:34] side of that. So whatever's in the way

[1:33:36] is going to be founded in some sort of

[1:33:38] limitation narrative which will have the

[1:33:40] energy of predominantly fear about it.

[1:33:44] So wherever we feel like um inhibited or

[1:33:48] thwarted in terms of expressing oursel

[1:33:50] is an opportunity to find freedom. So

[1:33:52] that's actually a practice is okay if

[1:33:55] the commitment like this podcast of

[1:33:56] finding freedom is to discover that for

[1:33:59] ourselves then the irony is we want to

[1:34:02] find out where we're not free. So for

[1:34:04] Paul, you know, wherever that might be,

[1:34:05] right? If it even saying you were

[1:34:07] talking to me, you were nervous, you

[1:34:09] were sweating a lot. That's not bad.

[1:34:10] That's human. But where else might you

[1:34:12] feel that? Is it in a public

[1:34:14] presentation? You know, when people do

[1:34:17] uh speaking engagements in front of a

[1:34:18] company, what would make Paul a little

[1:34:21] bit nervous? Would it be to run your own

[1:34:23] workshop for a weekend where you're kind

[1:34:25] of challenging yourself a little bit? Uh

[1:34:27] so that's a practice in terms of

[1:34:29] freedom. Um, but also in the way that

[1:34:32] you express yourself, excuse me, in

[1:34:34] front of say your girlfriend or her

[1:34:37] parents or your, you know, somebody you

[1:34:40] admire, you know, where you might feel,

[1:34:42] as we can all do as humans, a feeling of

[1:34:44] inadequacy. There's another opportunity

[1:34:47] to express yourself, um,

[1:34:50] un, you know, uninhibited. Um, then

[1:34:53] love, you know, where where can you

[1:34:55] practice love? You know, where can we

[1:34:57] find that? Most people obviously tend to

[1:34:59] do the opposite. They tend to be in

[1:35:00] fear. They're in fight or flight to some

[1:35:03] degree. So that might manifest as, you

[1:35:05] know, screaming at someone in traffic

[1:35:07] because they cut you off. Or it might be

[1:35:09] making your partner wrong or

[1:35:12] disregarding somebody's uh messages that

[1:35:14] they've sent you. Uh ghosting people,

[1:35:16] gaslighting people, you know, these are

[1:35:18] the antithesis of love, right? So where

[1:35:20] could you practice being more loving? So

[1:35:23] that would be the second thing to look

[1:35:25] at. Where is there someone in your life

[1:35:26] right now who perhaps did hurt you or

[1:35:29] upset you and rather than cleaning it up

[1:35:32] and you know just letting them know but

[1:35:34] giving them the opportunity to

[1:35:35] apologize. You know a lesser mind tends

[1:35:38] to want to make somebody wrong so that

[1:35:39] they can be right. You know it's sort of

[1:35:41] one of the predominant imperatives of

[1:35:44] the ego is we want to be right. That's

[1:35:45] self-righteousness of the ego. So where

[1:35:48] can you practice more love would be

[1:35:50] another area to look at. And then

[1:35:52] lastly, the energy of possibility is you

[1:35:54] know for me it's so replete with joy

[1:35:57] when you really get that this domain

[1:35:59] that we live in as human beings is

[1:36:00] itself possibility. So when we don't

[1:36:04] feel that, we're uh typically

[1:36:06] misidentified with our own shortcomings,

[1:36:10] our own limitations, failures from our

[1:36:12] history that make us feel that we can't

[1:36:15] do something right. Like I another quote

[1:36:17] of mine, I say, you know, when other

[1:36:19] people tell you your dreams aren't

[1:36:20] possible, have sympathy. It's their own

[1:36:23] limitations they're exposing, not yours.

[1:36:26] Right? So does that make sense? So you

[1:36:28] know those three I would say, you know,

[1:36:30] where are you not free? Great. there's

[1:36:32] an opportunity to find more freedom. It

[1:36:33] could be as mundane as, okay, you have a

[1:36:35] partner, but if some guy out there or

[1:36:37] some girl right now is, you know, kind

[1:36:39] of keen on someone or you're at a bar or

[1:36:41] you're a grocery store or you're yoga

[1:36:43] class and you see someone you're

[1:36:44] attracted to, but you're scared to go up

[1:36:46] to them for whatever your fear might be

[1:36:48] of embarrassment, rejection, or looking

[1:36:51] like a fool, that's an opportunity to

[1:36:53] overcome that, right? So, practice that.

[1:36:55] Find where you're not free. Go out there

[1:36:57] and practice freedom. Um, secondly, you

[1:37:01] know, as I said, be increasingly more

[1:37:04] loving. Where are you holding account of

[1:37:07] things people have done to, you know,

[1:37:09] hurt you and making them wrong? That's

[1:37:11] childish. And again, I'm obviously not

[1:37:13] inviting people to stay in abusive

[1:37:14] situations or communicate with people

[1:37:17] who are very hostile or harmful. No,

[1:37:19] this is only when relationships are

[1:37:21] important to you that uh are you being

[1:37:23] really loving or are you being a little

[1:37:25] self-righteous? And then possibility is

[1:37:27] where can you continue to recognize that

[1:37:30] this moment right now whoever is

[1:37:32] listening literally at this moment this

[1:37:34] moment in time has never happened before

[1:37:36] in the entire history of humanity. And

[1:37:39] for that reason it is like littered with

[1:37:42] nothing but the energy of possibility.

[1:37:45] The question is to what degree do we

[1:37:47] drag our past into this new moment and

[1:37:51] that then muddies the waters of

[1:37:52] possibility where we become resigned or

[1:37:54] cynical to the fact that something's not

[1:37:56] going to work for us. So they would be

[1:37:59] the three things I'd practice my friend.

[1:38:01] Where can you find more freedom? Where

[1:38:02] can you find more love? And where can

[1:38:05] you live from the energy that I would

[1:38:06] assert is your birthright which is the

[1:38:09] energy of pure possibility.

[1:38:11] >> That's awesome. Thanks so much for

[1:38:12] sharing that, Peter. Yeah. Hopefully

[1:38:15] that's a pretty comprehensive response.

[1:38:17] >> Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. I think that's a

[1:38:20] good six 12 month lifetime program of uh

[1:38:24] work to do there. So

[1:38:25] >> yeah well they you know they came

[1:38:27] through me with my work and helping

[1:38:29] people transcend their constraints. I

[1:38:31] realized that every time so for you, you

[1:38:33] know, thinking that it's all up to you,

[1:38:34] it's a prison, right? It's a limitation.

[1:38:37] >> And when you break through and come to

[1:38:39] the other side of that, then you

[1:38:41] discover freedom from it, right? And

[1:38:42] when you're in a place where, oh [ __ ]

[1:38:45] it's not up to me. It's not all my

[1:38:47] responsibility. Then you could have a

[1:38:49] newfound love for life. And

[1:38:51] simultaneously, you see a new way of

[1:38:54] living, which is possibility. Right? So

[1:38:55] the three qualities always arise

[1:38:58] simultaneously when somebody overcomes

[1:39:01] some sort of previous constraint. So

[1:39:03] when you understand that it's a really

[1:39:05] beautiful way to relate to life and

[1:39:06] particularly to time, you know.

[1:39:08] >> Yeah, absolutely. No, I appreciate that.

[1:39:10] Thanks a lot for showing Peter.

[1:39:12] >> You're welcome, mate. Well, listen, this

[1:39:14] was just a followup to check in. It's

[1:39:16] great to be with you again. Um, I really

[1:39:18] appreciate,

[1:39:20] you know, the opportunity that I get to

[1:39:22] meet and work with human beings like

[1:39:25] yourself. We, you know, didn't know each

[1:39:26] other from a hole in the ground or at

[1:39:28] least I didn't know you. You'd obviously

[1:39:29] listen to some of my stuff for a few

[1:39:30] years, but, you know, it's just really

[1:39:33] an honor for me to be with another human

[1:39:35] being on the planet. um to hold space

[1:39:37] for you and for you to contribute to the

[1:39:40] audience in a way that millions and

[1:39:42] millions of people will be able to

[1:39:44] relate to your same, you know, maybe not

[1:39:47] quite the identical situation, but very

[1:39:49] similar enough for them to realize um

[1:39:52] that they have a very similar form of

[1:39:55] limitation that now is no longer

[1:39:56] necessary and as a result um here we all

[1:40:00] are finding freedom. So, thank you my

[1:40:02] friend. Yeah, of course. I'm always

[1:40:04] happy as a coach and in the fitness

[1:40:06] industry and all that, like helping

[1:40:07] other people anyway. So, if this, you

[1:40:09] know, being not being the guinea pig,

[1:40:10] but being uh I guess being the guinea

[1:40:13] pig, but benefiting myself and others,

[1:40:16] then that's great. So,

[1:40:17] >> yeah. Awesome.

[1:40:19] >> Well, Paul, a pleasure. I hope we'll get

[1:40:21] to connect maybe in life one day down

[1:40:22] the road. And um hopefully my work will

[1:40:25] continue to contribute and inspire you

[1:40:27] to uh live from this place of freedom,

[1:40:29] love, and possibility. and to um yeah,

[1:40:32] continue to lean into that energy of

[1:40:34] true trust in life uh whilst

[1:40:36] simultaneously obviously co-creating the

[1:40:38] things that you aspire to see in the

[1:40:40] world. And I know the difference you

[1:40:42] make out there and and you know, thank

[1:40:44] you for what you do to help people on

[1:40:46] all levels. And I know this energy of

[1:40:49] internal peace and a lot more um sense

[1:40:54] of freedom is what the world needs more

[1:40:57] than anything. So take that out there

[1:40:59] and and pass it on.

[1:41:01] >> Of course. Absolutely. It would be my

[1:41:02] pleasure.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Aspiration driven by inspiration comes from genuine interest and creates an energy of expansion. Aspiration driven by desperation—rooted in the need to prove something or prevent loss—creates an energy of contraction and bracing. The latter creates what Peter calls the 'brake pedal' that sabotages sustained effort and creates cycles of intensity followed by complete shutdown.
When a child grows up in an environment where safety cannot be guaranteed (like an unpredictable parent), the nervous system learns that survival depends on personal vigilance and control. This template carries forward into adulthood, where financial decisions feel life-or-death because the underlying belief is still that one must control outcomes to prevent catastrophe.
Yes. When someone survives a traumatic event they couldn't prevent, they often unconsciously vow to compensate—in Paul's case, he decided to 'live your life as well.' This creates an impossible internal mandate that drives effort but also introduces resistance because the true goal (preventing loss, proving worthiness) is fundamentally unachievable through financial means.
It means recognizing that you've taken responsibility for outcomes that were never yours to control—such as your parent's security or compensating for someone else's death. Releasing the burden doesn't mean abandoning care; it means seeing clearly that you are not responsible for preventing your parents' suffering or living someone else's life for them.
When you stop bracing against imagined catastrophe and trying to control all outcomes, your nervous system can settle. From this relaxed state, genuine interest and authentic action naturally emerge. Opportunities arise more readily to someone who is open and present rather than someone operating from fear and desperation.
These cycles signal that the underlying goal is rooted in desperation or obligation rather than genuine interest. The nervous system accelerates to fulfill an impossible mandate, then applies the brake when it recognizes the futility. The solution is not more discipline but honest inquiry into what emotional need is actually being served.
Unlikely in a sustainable way. Money achieved through desperation and control rarely brings relief because the true fear isn't about poverty—it's about failing to prevent loss or prove worthiness. Until the deeper burden is released, financial gains will feel hollow because they don't actually solve the core issue.
