[0:00] Good morning. It's September 22nd, 700
[0:04] a.m. and I just thought I would share
[0:06] with you what my routine looks like in
[0:09] the fall. Um, I took a little break for
[0:12] a while from YouTube just cuz things
[0:14] were getting a little bit too hectic and
[0:15] busy around here. And I would love to
[0:18] say that it's calm and done and resolved
[0:21] now, but it's not. We're still kind of
[0:23] right in the thick of it, but there has
[0:25] been a lot of progress made. So, I
[0:27] wanted to show you my barn situation and
[0:30] um just take you through a day in my
[0:32] life of what my routine looks like at
[0:36] this time of the year. So, let's go see
[0:39] the animals. I already had my morning
[0:41] coffee. I always start that way. And now
[0:43] we're going to go see the chickens, let
[0:45] them roam, and then go to the horses.
[0:48] And I'll show you the barn that's been
[0:49] being built. [laughter]
[0:51] Good morning, girls.
[0:54] So, I think my setup has probably
[0:56] changed quite a bit since I last shared
[0:58] it. But we have our coupe. This is the
[1:01] run that my husband built. And then we
[1:03] ended up attaching [laughter] this extra
[1:06] fence. So, they have lots of outdoor
[1:08] space. Um, hi girls. I have 13 chickens
[1:12] now. And the only time I really let them
[1:14] free roam is in the morning. So, they
[1:17] know right now is their scheduled
[1:19] outdoor time. We have a lot of coyotes,
[1:22] a lot of hawks,
[1:24] um a lot of raccoons, so I'm always a
[1:26] little hesitant
[1:28] when I let them out. Good morning.
[1:31] But they love it so much. So, while I do
[1:33] the chores and stuff for the horses, I
[1:36] like to just let them roam a little bit.
[1:39] And they're all recall trained. Some
[1:41] days go better than others, but you'll
[1:43] see I can call them and get them to come
[1:44] back in at the end of that hour. But I
[1:48] can tell we are missing Bean, which
[1:51] means Bean is my other Silky.
[1:54] And one thing about silkies is they go
[1:56] broody all the time.
[1:59] Yep. Knew it. Oh, do you hear that
[2:03] noise? She's not happy. Come on, honey.
[2:08] She's broody, but she's not even sitting
[2:10] on any eggs. [laughter]
[2:11] There's nothing in there. So, [snorts]
[2:13] silkies are really prone to going
[2:15] broody, which just means that she wants
[2:17] to hatch some eggs. Go be with your
[2:20] other silky friend. Popcorn.
[2:23] Um, I'll try to break her out of that.
[2:24] It's very annoying. They're very cute,
[2:26] [laughter] but they do drive me a little
[2:29] bit crazy with that. Fiji, you're very
[2:31] loud this morning.
[2:34] That's Fiji and Lavender. Okay, go have
[2:37] fun. Go explore. I'll see you later.
[2:40] That's Opal. She's my new favorite.
[2:43] I mean, I shouldn't have favorites, but
[2:45] I really do love her. She's like a cat.
[2:47] You can just like pet her and she'll
[2:48] hang out. And then she's one of our
[2:52] newer girls. I have these others. Okay,
[2:55] go have fun. See you soon. [laughter]
[2:58] Good morning, girls.
[3:01] [sighs and gasps] So, big changes here,
[3:04] that's for sure. I'll show you the barn
[3:05] and the extra paddock space afterwards.
[3:09] Good morning, Wednesday.
[3:12] Hi, sweetheart. So, I still have
[3:14] Wednesday. She's my least horse, so I
[3:16] don't own her. Um, but I've had her for
[3:19] a year and a halfish now. Um, and I'll
[3:22] have her for a little while more. It's
[3:25] People always ask, "Are you going to buy
[3:26] her? Are you going to keep her?" I would
[3:28] love to. Like, I would love to. My My
[3:30] dream would be to keep this horse
[3:31] forever. Um, I hope the owners will sell
[3:34] her to me, but at this point, they do
[3:36] not want to sell her, which is fine, you
[3:38] know? Like, she's she's their horse. I'm
[3:40] happy to care for her and give her the
[3:42] best life possible that I can. Here you
[3:44] have sand all over your face. Um, but
[3:48] then this is my new girl, Miss Dakota.
[3:53] She's bullying [laughter]
[3:54] cinnamon a little bit. Um, I've had
[3:57] Dakota for just 3 weeks now. She's brand
[4:00] new. She's a little baby. She's 4 years
[4:02] old. She's half paint, half
[4:05] thoroughbred. Her mom was a
[4:06] thoroughbred. Her dad was a paint. Um, I
[4:09] actually got her from Vermont. She was
[4:11] being started at an eventing barn. She
[4:14] is wonderful. Like [snorts] so lovely.
[4:17] Unfortunately, Cricket, if you remember,
[4:20] My Little Pony died May 31st or May
[4:23] 30th, I believe. Um, so I ended up
[4:26] bringing Wednesday home cuz Wednesday
[4:28] has been lame all year. So there was no
[4:30] point in me continuing to board her. So
[4:32] I brought her over to be friends with
[4:34] Cinnamon. They hit it off. They love
[4:36] each other. And then I knew I wanted my
[4:39] own little project, my own little baby.
[4:41] So that's where Dakota came in. Okay,
[4:43] now I have to feed, poo, pick, do all of
[4:45] that. Don't you want to go in the
[4:47] pasture?
[4:49] I just opened it. Don't you want it?
[4:54] No. No. Don't bite my glasses. Go get
[4:57] grass.
[5:02] Oh, here she comes. Coming in hot.
[5:11] So, they'll just eat some grass while I
[5:13] clean up their area, fill up their hay,
[5:15] fill up their water. It just keeps them
[5:18] out of my hair and out [snorts] of my
[5:20] stuff. Prep their grain.
[5:23] And poor cinnamon. Unfortunately, has a
[5:25] grazing muzzle in here cuz she is um I
[5:29] guess it's almost like the equivalent of
[5:31] human diabetes. You can say grass has a
[5:33] lot of sugar in it. So I have to be
[5:35] careful that she doesn't get too much.
[5:37] So she just gets a few blades of grass,
[5:40] but they love it so much. It's worth it
[5:42] for them. Okay, come back later. And
[5:44] then you can kind of see my new area in
[5:47] the back here. I'm doing like a little
[5:49] track system, but I'll show that after.
[6:00] All right, these girls are all eating
[6:02] their grain, eating their breakfast.
[6:05] [sighs]
[6:06] So, I'll show you my new area, the barn.
[6:09] We're about to start my favorite game of
[6:11] the day, which is will the contractors
[6:14] show up? You never know.
[6:17] And I just sneak in through the bars.
[6:19] So, that's what you guys are doing with
[6:20] me.
[6:22] All right. So, I don't actually want to
[6:24] complain too much about my contractors
[6:26] because they made my vision come true.
[6:28] I'm extremely happy with it. We are
[6:31] almost there.
[6:33] So, it's a three stall barn with a wash
[6:36] bay and then my feed and tack room. Oh,
[6:38] hopefully you'll be able to see my
[6:40] lights aren't turned on yet. So, I'm
[6:42] missing my garage door here, but then
[6:45] I'm Okay, you can kind of see. So, I
[6:48] have Cinnamon stall over here,
[6:52] Dakota stall, Wednesday stall. This will
[6:56] be for storage, primarily putting my hay
[6:59] in here. Um, I'll be able to hang some
[7:02] stuff on the wall. And then this is my
[7:04] wash bay. Um, I have double Dutch doors
[7:07] here. They're just sealed shut cuz we're
[7:09] waiting for the handles to arrive. And
[7:12] then in here is my combined feed and
[7:14] tack room. Looks crazy. The electrical
[7:19] inspection is tomorrow, I believe. So,
[7:23] no power until that is done. and no
[7:26] water until that is completed. And then
[7:28] they also can't fill in the huge trench
[7:32] that they've dug until all of that's
[7:35] done. So that's kind of what's been
[7:37] really frustrating with this process is
[7:39] that if one thing is missing, it sets
[7:42] everyone back. So you can kind of see
[7:45] here big trench for where we're grabbing
[7:48] like power lines and water lines through
[7:52] here going to my well. I didn't want to
[7:54] lose access to um water in my
[7:58] pre-existing shed. And then I'll show
[8:00] you the track. So, all the stone
[8:02] aggregate and stone dust is going to be
[8:06] laid over my soil here cuz we're all on
[8:09] clay. It's very, very, very slippery. Um
[8:12] as soon as there's even just a little
[8:13] bit of water, it's just very unsafe.
[8:17] These girls are going crazy already. And
[8:19] I don't know what's into them this
[8:20] morning. They are way more energized
[8:23] than normal. I think cuz it's slightly
[8:24] cool.
[8:26] But then my pride and joy. I'm so
[8:28] excited for this. I can't wait to have
[8:30] them use this space.
[8:33] So, we have this little track. It's not
[8:37] much. It's probably like 1,000 ft of
[8:42] track where they can go all the way
[8:45] around.
[8:47] And then I fenced off
[8:50] some of these little tree islands, I
[8:54] guess you could say, with some no climb
[8:56] mesh. Primarily because Cinnamon I have
[9:00] to be really careful that she doesn't
[9:01] get too much grass and I knew if she had
[9:04] access to all of this, she would be
[9:05] plowing through. Um I'm also really
[9:08] worried about ticks and stuff like that.
[9:10] So, I just felt it would be better to
[9:12] keep them out of these islands and then
[9:15] surface the whole thing. So, they'll
[9:19] have way more space. I cannot wait to
[9:23] see them run around back here. Hopefully
[9:25] have so much fun. It's definitely going
[9:27] to be a lot more work for me because I
[9:29] like to poo pick every day. Um, I'll
[9:32] also be spreading out hay around the
[9:34] track. So, I think I've officially
[9:36] reached the point in my journey where I
[9:38] need a utility vehicle. So, I don't know
[9:41] if there's any farmers in here watching.
[9:44] I'm hesitating between a K Cabota and
[9:47] like a John Deere Gator. Just whatever
[9:50] works best in snow, I think, will be my
[9:53] best bet. But yeah, goes all the way
[9:55] around. So, geoteexile on the bottom and
[9:59] then stone aggregate and finally stone
[10:01] dust on top just to keep it mud-free,
[10:05] working well. But yeah,
[10:08] it started in June and here we are
[10:11] September 22nd and we're not quite done,
[10:13] but we're almost done. So, all right.
[10:16] Now, let's bring the chickens in. We'll
[10:18] walk Luna and we'll get on with our day.
[10:20] If you follow me on Instagram, you've
[10:22] seen this a few times before. It's time
[10:25] to go back. Come on, girls.
[10:30] They're very well trained.
[10:35] Come on, girls. Let's go home.
[10:39] That one is the slowest walker in the
[10:41] world, but she will make her way back.
[10:43] It's not that she's not listening. It's
[10:45] just that she's slow. She's older.
[10:47] Come on, girls.
[10:50] Good job, Maple.
[10:52] You'll always be the Oh, there you go.
[10:54] >> [laughter]
[10:55] >> Good job, girls. Keep going. Keep going.
[11:01] Some of them are already there waiting
[11:02] for me.
[11:07] Oh, good girls.
[11:10] Yeah, like not all of them like to free
[11:12] range. Some of them prefer staying
[11:14] closer to home. Come on, little ladies.
[11:18] And then the trick with recall, you
[11:21] always need positive reinforcement so
[11:23] they know they get some treats once they
[11:25] come back. Okay, girls, let's go. All
[11:28] right, they're all in.
[11:31] Good job, everyone.
[11:34] [screaming]
[11:34] Have a good day.
[11:37] Oh, popcorn. She's so cute. Look at this
[11:40] face. Have a good day. So, I just got
[11:42] ready and of course Daisy was right
[11:44] there because she's basically my shadow
[11:46] and I can't do anything in privacy
[11:48] anymore. She follows me everywhere. Um,
[11:51] I did some laundry. Super boring. And
[11:53] then Anthony had let Luna and Kit Kat
[11:56] out for a little bit of supervised
[11:58] outdoor time. Kit Kat's getting old,
[12:01] guys. You might notice like he's lost a
[12:03] lot of weight. He's 17, maybe even 18
[12:05] years old now. So, he's still doing
[12:07] good, but you know, we're aware of his
[12:09] age.
[12:11] Well, it's almost 9:00 a.m. Before I
[12:14] take Luna for her walk, going to drop
[12:16] off
[12:18] some scraps, food scraps for the
[12:20] chickens.
[12:23] All right, girls. Okay. Difficult to do
[12:25] this with one hand.
[12:29] Stay here. Stay here, Luna.
[12:32] Hi, girls.
[12:35] Okay, we have a banana.
[12:38] You guys love bananas.
[12:40] Popcorn loves bananas.
[12:47] Here you go.
[12:49] Little piece of pear [sighs]
[12:51] and some eggshells.
[12:58] Have fun.
[13:01] Enjoy.
[13:09] And then I did some school work. I'm so
[13:11] behind again. I'll probably have to take
[13:13] another break at some point. But once I
[13:16] did that for a few hours, I then planned
[13:18] my group classes for the week. So I
[13:20] teach two fitness classes um in Orleans
[13:24] at a gym called Oxygen Yoga Fitness. So
[13:26] I teach a bar and Pilates class and then
[13:29] I teach like a strength training uh
[13:31] power fusion class. So I always like to
[13:34] plan those out on Tuesdays. That's kind
[13:36] of like when I set the time aside to go
[13:39] through sequences, come up with ideas,
[13:41] and I get a great workout in the
[13:43] meantime, and I just write it down. That
[13:45] way, I'm ready to go for Thursday. Okay,
[13:48] it's about I think it's 2:00 p.m. or so.
[13:50] I have a lesson with Dakota um at 3:30.
[13:55] So, in the meantime, I need to bring the
[13:57] girls into their stalls and then just
[13:59] tidy up the paddock and stuff like that.
[14:02] um feed groom, get her all ready, and
[14:05] then we'll be ready to ride. All right,
[14:07] my lesson got cancelled, but I'm still
[14:09] going to head out and ride her on my
[14:11] own. And this is only their what is
[14:14] this, like the fourth time that they've
[14:17] been in these stalls inside the barn.
[14:21] And tomorrow I have the frier coming
[14:23] over. Um, and it'll be their first time
[14:26] getting their feet done inside like in
[14:29] this barn. Anyway, obviously they've
[14:31] been in barns before and they know how
[14:33] to behave and stuff, but I'm going to
[14:35] put them in the cross ties. They've only
[14:36] done that once in here just to the goal
[14:39] is just to make things as easy for them
[14:41] as possible once you know it matters and
[14:45] once there's a frier here and they
[14:46] actually have to be good citizens of the
[14:50] world. I don't know why this is up.
[14:54] Can have it down.
[14:57] Really love these stalls. I got them
[14:59] from System Ecoin or System Fencing,
[15:03] right? Look at these little ladies. They
[15:06] love each other so much. I really could
[15:08] not have asked for a better pair, better
[15:11] duo. Like, they get along so well with
[15:14] Cinnamon, too. And I chose a grilled
[15:16] partition and it actually swings open so
[15:19] I can make it one giant stall if I want
[15:21] to. But for now, I'm just keeping them
[15:23] as regular stalls. So, I'll pick
[15:26] everything up, give everyone a nice
[15:29] groom, and then I'll take Dakota for a
[15:31] little ride. So, I've had Dakota for
[15:34] three weeks now. Um, she turned 4 years
[15:37] old July 31st, so really has only
[15:41] recently turned four. And she has been
[15:44] so far, like, knock on wood, she has
[15:46] just been the absolute perfect baby. She
[15:48] is such a good girl. Um, this is my
[15:51] fifth time, I think, riding her. So, at
[15:55] this point, we're really just trying to
[15:56] get to know each other. She has a pretty
[15:58] good foundation under saddle for a baby,
[16:01] you know, for a fairly green horse. Um,
[16:04] but I'm new to her and obviously I'm not
[16:06] a coach. I'm not a trainer. So, my only
[16:09] purpose really with these first rides is
[16:11] to get to know one another and then also
[16:14] to just keep her forward. um make sure
[16:18] that she's tracking up and eventually to
[16:20] try to get her to stretch down a little
[16:22] bit and stretch out cuz she does hold
[16:25] herself up pretty high. But honestly,
[16:27] like for a little baby, she is kind of
[16:29] perfect. She has yet to put a single
[16:32] foot out of line. This is my neighbor's
[16:34] little ring that he lets us use, so
[16:36] she's not used to it. There's other
[16:38] horses on the side that she's into. Lots
[16:41] of distractions, but she's just good.
[16:44] like she's calm, she's sane, she's
[16:46] sound. I'm really excited for our future
[16:49] together. I'm hoping that she's going to
[16:51] be my future little show jumper. And
[16:55] also hoping to get into fox hunting. And
[16:57] no, it's not real. You don't actually
[16:59] hunt foxes. [laughter] It's all fake.
[17:01] It's like a drag hunt. Um, but I'm
[17:03] really hoping to do fun activities like
[17:05] that with her. All right, it's 5:00 p.m.
[17:08] I've just been doing some work after my
[17:10] ride and I realized that I haven't
[17:12] shared Poppy in the blog yet.
[17:14] Poppy. Her previous name was Scarlet
[17:16] when I was first fostering her and
[17:18] adopting her, but we changed her name
[17:19] cuz I don't know. She's just not a
[17:21] Scarlet. She's a Poppy. And she is just
[17:25] the best girl ever. She's very chunky,
[17:28] so she is on a diet. She's genuinely
[17:31] fatter now than when she was pregnant
[17:33] with three kittens. So, that's my bad.
[17:37] But look how cute she is. She's such a
[17:40] good girl.
[17:41] Daisy loves her mom.
[17:44] They play a lot. They fight a lot, but
[17:46] they also play and cuddle a lot
[17:48] together. I feel like this vlog is too
[17:50] long, so I think I'm going to wrap it up
[17:52] here. Uh, the rest of my day is kind of
[17:55] boring. I'm going to go out back to the
[17:58] horses and just top up their hay and
[18:00] their water for the night so that
[18:02] they're good um until tomorrow morning.
[18:05] And then it's just dinner, probably a
[18:07] little bit more schoolwork if I can, TV,
[18:11] and going to bed. And that's it.
[18:13] Playing, cuddling with the animals. Um,
[18:15] but that's a day in my life in the fall.
[18:18] I hope you enjoyed this. I probably am
[18:20] going to have to take another break for
[18:23] like a month or so. Maybe I'll do it in
[18:26] December since I feel like I don't know,
[18:28] December is a hard time to I don't know.
[18:31] We'll see. We'll see. But I might need
[18:32] to take a few more weeks off just cuz I
[18:34] am quite behind on my school work. It's
[18:37] been a really busy season. So I'll keep
[18:39] you guys posted on that. But I do want
[18:41] to be ready to go like for January 2027,
[18:45] you know. So if that means I need to
[18:48] take a bit of a break now towards the
[18:50] end of the year, I think that's a better
[18:52] way to approach that. So thank you for
[18:55] watching. I hope you enjoyed it. I'm
[18:56] sorry this was so long, but now you know
[18:59] what a day in my life looks like. And if
[19:01] you'd like more of those kinds of
[19:02] videos, let me know. They're fun for me
[19:05] to put together. It's something
[19:06] different, you know, than yoga classes.
[19:09] So, I always enjoy doing it. All right,
[19:12] have a good evening. Thanks for
[19:13] watching, and we will talk soon.
