After 45 years working with individuals and groups, Rupda remains deliberately outside the self-help industrial complex. But for those seeking genuine somatic healing rather than another productivity framework dressed up as transformation, that's precisely the point.

The Single Best Entry Point

Start with a personal growth retreat. Not a facilitator training, not a one-off session—a multi-day retreat where Rupda works with a small group. This is how the work is meant to be encountered: in your body, over time, with others present. The retreat format gives you enough repetition to notice patterns in how Rupda guides attention toward sensation rather than story, and enough spaciousness to actually feel whether this approach speaks to your nervous system.

You'll spend significant time tracking bodily sensations—heat in your chest, tension in your jaw, the quality of your breath. Rupda will ask you to stay with what arises rather than interpret it. Expect long silences. Expect to be gently redirected when you try to explain or narrativize your experience. The work happens in real time, in the present moment, through felt sense.

Where to Go Next

After your first retreat, attend a second one within six months. Somatic work requires repetition; your nervous system needs multiple encounters with this kind of presence to begin reorganizing its patterns. One retreat plants a seed. Two begins to establish a practice.

The First Encounter

Expect to be frustrated if you're used to leaving workshops with frameworks and action items. Rupda doesn't trade in techniques you can implement on Monday morning. The work is slower, subtler, and more destabilizing than that. You might spend twenty minutes exploring what happens in your shoulders when you say "no." You might leave a session unable to articulate what happened but aware that something shifted.

Common Misunderstandings

Beginners often mistake gentleness for passivity. Rupda's approach is heart-centered and invitational, but it's not soft. Tracking sensation and staying present to what the body holds requires more courage than most cognitive therapies demand.

Others come expecting catharsis—the dramatic release, the breakthrough sob. Sometimes that happens. Often it doesn't. Healing isn't always loud. The nervous system recalibrates through micro-adjustments, through learning that it's safe to feel a little more, to be a little more present.

The biggest misunderstanding: treating this as a technique to master rather than a way of being to practice. Rupda's emphasis on the facilitator's own embodied awareness means you can't fake your way through this work.

Day 3: Journal on this question: What would it mean to locate healing in sensation rather than understanding?

Days 4-5: Practice tracking sensations for ten minutes daily. No interpretation. Just noticing.

Day 7: Register for a retreat, or admit you're not ready. Both are honest answers.
