Mara Bishop is a shamanic practitioner, intuitive consultant, teacher, author and artist. She is the founder of WholeSpirit, the Enatured™ method and the non-profit Whole Nature Incorporated, and has been in practice since 1995. She works with clients and students around the world, and lives in Durham, North Carolina, with a family of people, animals and plants.
Her Personal Evolution Counseling™ method combines shamanism, intuition and energy healing into an integrated approach to spiritual healing, personal growth and emotional well-being, and she trains new practitioners in it. Enatured™ draws on ecospiritual practices, psychology, mindfulness and scientific research about nature, to help people consciously engage the environment for relationship, support and restoration.
Mara is the author of Shamanism for Every Day: 365 Journeys, Inner Divinity: Crafting Your Life with Sacred Intelligence, and the Sounds True audio program Shining Bright Without Burning Out, on creating healthy energetic boundaries. Her courses and circles cover shamanic journeying, energetic boundaries and burnout prevention, and nature-based practice. WholeSpirit's work follows shamanic principles from around the world but is not seated in a specific indigenous culture, and it takes care not to appropriate traditions or claim the title of shaman.
Her training includes psychology at Columbia University's Teachers College and the Spirituality Mind Body Institute. She also studied shamanism with Sandra Ingerman, the Foundation for Shamanic Studies and Michael Harner, among others. Her energy medicine, intuition and theology training came through programs created by the founder of the American Holistic Medical Association. She presents at universities and wellness centers, including Columbia University, UNC Chapel Hill's Program on Integrative Medicine, Duke University and the Rhine Research Center.
In her own words, nature keeps her grounded: "We are nature, nature is us."
