Desirée Dawson is a recording artist, songwriter, producer, dance teacher, sound healing facilitator and yoga teacher from Vancouver, BC. Her main instrument is her powerful yet soothing voice, which she often accompanies with body percussion or her baritone ukulele. She plays solo, as a duo or with a full band, and her sound draws on pop, folk, soul, Americana and country. It is often simply called genre-blending singer-songwriter music.
Her music often points to the importance of liberating ourselves by tending to the spaces within us that have been silenced into isolation. She believes that finding ways to love and embrace ourselves goes hand in hand with learning how to love, care and build with those around us, and that music can be a powerful tool for that. She is passionate about music's role in collective healing, encouraging listeners to find connection within themselves and with the people and land around them.
Dawson won the CBC Searchlight Contest in 2016. Her project "Meet You At The Light" earned a JUNO Award nomination for album of the year. She won two SXSW Music Video Awards in 2022 and received a UK Music Video Award nomination for international pop music video of the year. In 2023 she was part of the Keychange cohort, spending a year connecting with like-minded change makers in the European market. Her songs "Cup Of Tea" and "I Am Blessed" have found wide audiences on Instagram and TikTok, and her catalog has been placed in TV shows including Wynonna Earp and Heartland, in advertisements such as Destination Vancouver, and in films and documentaries.
She supports her community through music-based workshops and gatherings, locally and internationally. Whether she is performing with her baritone ukulele, in harmony with her band or leading a sound healing workshop, her music is made to get us feeling and healing.
Worth Knowing
Desirée Dawson is a Vancouver-based recording artist, songwriter, producer, yoga teacher, and sound healing facilitator whose music straddles the boundary between intimate singer-songwriter craft and broader pop-folk accessibility. Her work has reached significant audiences—over 175,000 Spotify followers—and her songs "Cup Of Tea" and "I Am Blessed" have achieved viral reach on TikTok and Instagram, while also securing placements in television shows like Wynonna Earp and Heartland. What distinguishes her from the crowded singer-songwriter field is her explicit integration of sound healing and yoga teaching into her artistic practice; she doesn't simply write songs about wellness, but actively facilitates music-based workshops and gatherings that emphasize collective healing and connection. Her recognition includes a CBC Searchlight Contest win in 2016, a JUNO Award nomination for her album Meet You At The Light, and two SXSW Music Video Awards in 2022. Listeners and workshop participants are drawn to her work because it operates on multiple registers at once—as popular, accessible music that also functions as a container for intentional emotional and spiritual work. She's particularly valued by people seeking music that addresses isolation and the silenced spaces within themselves while building outward toward community and land-based connection.
