Sheryl Paul is a Jungian-informed counselor, author and course creator who guides people through anxiety, intrusive thoughts and life transitions. Her approach treats anxiety as a messenger from the unconscious rather than an enemy, a signal that something in the interior life needs attention. She describes it as "a friend in disguise" and a gift filled with wisdom.
She holds an M.A. and graduated from Pitzer College in 1993. She trained at Pacifica Graduate Institute (1997), in the Jungian depth psychological tradition, drawing particularly on the work of Marion Woodman and Robert Johnson. Her own relationship with anxiety began early. She struggled with separation anxiety as a child and insomnia in middle school, and had her first panic attack at twenty-one. She calls anxiety one of her greatest teachers. Meeting her husband brought a second encounter with relationship anxiety, which made the idea of projection a guiding principle in her life.
For more than twenty years she has worked with clients and course members around the world, tracing anxiety and its symptoms, including worry, obsessions, intrusive thoughts, insomnia and somatic illness, back to their roots. Her work centers on self-trust and self-love. She teaches on relationship anxiety, intrusive thoughts, self-trust, lack of attraction, generalized anxiety and transitions. Through her books, courses, private sessions and blog, she has guided thousands of people. Her books include The Healing Anxiety Workbook and The Wisdom of Anxiety, published by Sounds True. She has appeared several times on The Oprah Winfrey Show and on Good Morning America.
Sheryl lives with her husband and two sons outside Boulder, Colorado, where she works from a studio her husband designed.
