Mel Collins is a UK-based author, HSP consultant, counsellor, personal and spiritual development coach and teacher, and holistic therapist. Her guiding message is that sensitivity is a strength. She is a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor and complementary therapist, and she is a Highly Sensitive Person herself. For about twenty years she has specialised in working with Highly Sensitive People and Empaths.
Her path to this work was not a direct one. Mel spent twenty-two years in the corporate world, in banking, insurance and education. She then spent ten years in Her Majesty's Prison Service. She began by counselling prisoners with substance misuse issues, then spent eight years as a prison governor managing drug and alcohol services. Being innately sensitive in such a demanding setting taught her a great deal. It also made her want to understand the trait better and find ways to manage it. During this time she went through a personal and spiritual development journey, and she trained in holistic therapies alongside her prison work.
Her training includes an Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, Reiki Master practice, auricular acupuncture detoxification, and accredited spiritual healing that includes meditation practices. She also studied Deep Memory Process regression therapy with Jungian professor Dr Roger Woolger.
Mel is the author of two books, The Handbook for Highly Sensitive People and Positive Affirmations for Sensitive People. She was invited to speak on BBC Radio 2 with Jeremy Vine, who wrote the foreword to the Handbook. She has also been interviewed on BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC London and BBC Scotland.
Today she gives talks, workshops and training on Highly Sensitive People for groups, businesses and organisations. She also offers Mind, Body, Spirit sessions on personal and spiritual development, meditation and wellbeing. Her Insight Timer page adds that she helps people connect with angels, guides and masters.
