Aazav

Aazav is the creation of music producers Kai Altair and Haj i Ji. The name is pronounced aah-z-aah-v and is defined as "a state of ecstatic spiritual dignity obtained through dance, drumming, and trance practices."

The duo draws on ancestral vocal traditions and deep woods sensibilities. They describe their sound as a convergence of medicine melodies and global organica. Their debut album, The Looking Stone, was born of community and shared sonic vision that spans Brooklyn to San Francisco. It moves from evocative down and mid-tempos to late night dance floor heat, and it received remixes from David Starfire, Govinda, Kaminanda, Drumspyder and Living Light.

Aazav's DJ and live sets weave the primal with the modern mythic, where deep bass meets luminous vocals and atmospheric journeys. The sets are made to awaken collective rhythm and remembrance, whether at a sunrise dance or in the night's descent into embodied ritual.

Kai Altair and Haj i Ji travel together and apart, playing solo and tag-team sets for dance communities from Hawai‘i to New York City and from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City.
